Iron Fic 3-14: Mad Science

So thereÆs science. You know how it works: advancement of the species, solving the mysteries of the universe, bettering mankind and so on. Great stuff.

But how about giant robots? Creating new species? Black hole guns? Teleportation? Making peopleàbetter?

ôSorry,ö says science.

But you know better. After all, you told them they were wrong, that their ways of thinking were tooà limited. You were laughed out of the halls. Your research was ignored, your papers went unpublished, and old friends and colleagues refused to return your calls.

Well. You tried telling them. Now itÆs time to show them! Laser beams, tidal disruptors, giant monsters, alien portals, psychic powers GO!

Your challenge for the next 72-hours is to write a story about mad science. Or if you prefer, SCIENCE!! Write about scientific advances that break the physical laws of reality, are invented by obvious madmen, or are come are based on other natural rules. Show how the mad science interacts with real science and how it changes thingsùor how people change for it.

Remember that mad science might only be so from certain points of view. What if someone invented an airplane in a fantasy series? Or power armor?

This is the final challenge! The countdown has begun: you have 72 hours. Make it delicious.

I read a book like this.

<a href='http://www.baen.com/library/0671878468/0671878468.htm' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Wizard's Bane</a>

Anyway... hmm. I'm not sure who I'm gonna write this about. Well, I've still got a little more time to think about it...

Bokurano recommended for listening? Shit. :ph43r:

Anyway, that's one. Somewhat...nervous about the rest. Seventeen hours out of 72 remain, and one entry. Here's hoping nairit won't win by default.

Not that I don't want you to win. I love you man. :mmm:

I didn't take much of a look at it, but that was do to the terrible formatting. It was better than a wall of text, but not by much.

All in all, it was a terrible way for the contest to end. Especially since I'm pretty sure there were several other people who said they would compete, and only one person who made an excuse.

Well, there we go. IF 3-Final has been graded, with nairit receiving a score of 75.

I plan to make a list of IF contest prompts, and then close up the contest for the year. Before I do that, is there anyone who wants me to comment on their entries? I recall that I had a few contests that I graded but never commented on, and a few that I stayed out of entirely. I can fix that, and provide assistance to anyone interested in cleaning/expanding their entry for posting off-site.

Otherwise: Thanks a lot for this summer!
