IRON FIC

Gah, I keep forgetting to advertise midweek. Here's a reminder that IRON FIC will be happening at 11AM tomorrow Pacific Standard Time--remember to adjust the start/end times for your timezone if you don't live on the American/Mexican/Canadian West coast.

So, uhh... hi. Sorry about flaking out this week, but shit happened.

1. The car that I got into an accident in? Back in good condition, though adjustments need to be made to the door-seal.

2. Had a test in my accelerate Physics (ba-dmp-tish) class last week, did poorly, and have been desperately trying to catch up since.

3. Fallout: New Vegas. *cough*

4. And the big news--the college I flunked out of last year has decided to allow me to return this fall. This is huge; means that a mistake that I thought would have life-changing consequences is just going to be a speedbump. So I've been running around making plans for this next year in Oregon, rather than California.

SO. There will be Iron Fic today, and the one from last week will be graded. This one will be graded tomorrow. Iron Fic will continue through August, though I might be handing it off to people when I go apartment hunting.

Again, sorry for the delay, but this has been a great and busy week IRL. Hope that you understand (and wish me luck!).

I wish you great disaster and ill-tidings to come! May you be trapped at college and then be released to be shackled into a life long servitude to corporate america! And a foretold degration with an overseer of the opposite gender who shall harangue you and burden you with the mandated 2.5 offsprings while ensuring that you maintain your white fenced prison.

Since Wata never remembers to advertise Iron Fic I guess I will. Iron fic. There.

Also Certain Judges need to judge.

:headbanger:

Thanks lightwave.

At the moment I am incredibly sleep deprived, but after I wake up tomorrow I will be judging.

No judging it seems. Lightwave is the best judge. And only one to judge the last two contests it appears. Wata is late as always.

Also Iron Fic is today.

Yeeeah, wow. You would not believe how much stuff landed on me Friday. I bow to the gods of the Inevitable and put out a request for at least two judges to judge on a permanent basis until I get my life back together two weeks from now. Sorry for not doing this earlier, but until today I was arrogant enough to think I could handle all of this. Obviously not.

I will continue posting the IF challenges, or giving them to other people to post in my place, but I do not currently have the ability to give judging the entries the consideration they deserve.

Hey all, today's Iron Fic is in one hour and ten minutes. In other news, I've got a week to go in my class, which means that I should be able to return to a more active role in the contest just in time for the season to end.

Wait, what?

A lot of us are going to be going back to school at the end of August or in September. I in particular need to focus on my studies, and will probably not be on TFF as much as I usually am. Besides, IF is a summer event and summer is coming to a close. So, I'd like to know how many contests you think should make up the rest of the season.

Thanks for participating this far everyone. Let's make these last few contests memorable ones.

Hello there all of you Iron Ficcers don't adjust your screens as your Iron fics are being hijacked. It has been getting on my nerves that a certain person hasn't been doing his job so, I've decided to do it for him. Lightwave announcing the winrars of the past iron fics time.

On another note. Ero Sennin will be joining us as a permanent judge.

And thus does it end.

Not with a roar, but a whimper in the night.

Hmm... I wonder.

My free time has been curtailed by dint of 400-level classes and similar, but I've been thinking of a way to end this year's IF season on a high note.

How about a two-day competition? Saturday and Sunday both, one prompt. It would be cool to try to rope in more contestants too; maybe make a banner of some sort for people interested to try and rope more TFFers in.

I would have been fine with such... but it doesn't look like it's happening, is it?

Wasn't planning on doing it this weekend, plus I spent the day horribly horribly sick. :sick2:

So okay, let's talk about how I want to end Iron Fic. I'm thinking that it should take up the entire weekend, from when it becomes September 17th at GMT+12 to when Monday rolls around at GMT-12. So you'd have the entire weekend to work on and submit an entry.

There will be one prompt. Entries must be fanfiction (no original works). Other than that, same grading standards, so I'll need three judges.

Lastly, I'd like to make this a big competition. I'm going to be advertising and I need your help. Change your signature to include a link to this post! Change your title! PM your friends, and write your own IF submission!

Halibel Lecter has offered to make some sig images. If you're interested, you might talk to her and see if she's willing to make to one based on your IF entry(ies).

I'll see about giving this thread a boost every so often. If you've got ideas for the prompt, send them to me. I might use it, or give it my own spin.

Since I've posted the above, this topic's gotten quite a few hits. I'm wondering if anyone who's read my plans on how to end the season would actually be interested in participating.

Like I said, I'm trying to get more writers this time around, and a lot of people have complained about the time limit. With such a dramatic extension, it should be possible for even the slowest writers to submit an entry.

For those who aren't sure about the timezones, the contest starts at 12 PM (noon) GMT on the 16th and ends at 12 PM (noon) GMT on the 19th. Adjusted for Pacific Daylight Time (the time I normally use for the contest), that's 4AM PDT.

Which... might need to be changed. I don't think I could survive being active so late/early again. Well, TFF isn't very active at that time so I might post the topic late...

So. The contest starts tomorrow (subtract about an hour from the timestamp on this post and you'll have when I'm starting).

I have a prompt. What I don't have are people interested in writing. Which is odd since this is a three day contest.

If people could, I dunno, sound off or express some kind of interest that would go a long way in making me feel I'm not wasting my time.

Hey, Wata, could you please list all the prompts you used this season? I missed some good ones due to being busy most Saturdays this summer, and I know those submission times are long over, but I might like to tackle a couple of them just for fun.

Num. One can but cast a wide net and hope to catch fishes. Absolute certainty comes only with death.

So there have been like six times where I thought, "oh yeah, Iron Fic, maybe I'll do that this week"... or I'll see a post in a preview thread somewhere with "IF" in the title and think, "oh yeah!"... and then I go to look it up, and I open the challenge thread to see what it is, and then I scroll down, and see the "contest has now closed" post.

Anyway, I'd really like the rules to be changed from "n hours from the challenge going up" to "n hours after you read the challenge" with the valid entry period extended through like the whole week; the contest is closed the instant the next challenge goes up.

Right now, I'm committing to participating every week if I can get that n-hour block made flexible like that.
