Ranma ½ Is it any good

There's and update thread and a fic rec thread but sometimes there are fics out there that never make it to either thread. Sometimes it's because they aren't any good, others it might just because of exposure. What this thread is for is for those fics out there that you stumble across, read perhaps the first chapter and decide to quit reading it because it looks like it goes into a direction that either don't like. That could mean many things from curse locks to pairing issues to just plain bad grammer.

Most of the time when i stumble across one of these fics i try to go through the reviews and see who are reading these fics and what they think of them as well for any spoilers within. this doesn't always work and sometimes i just decide to quit reading them rather than risk reading something i would rather not.

So to start this thread off I submit

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5108163/1/Hitotsu_ni_suru

Is it worth the time to read? It contains a female locked ranma Naruto fusion or something where the new individual poses as naruto's sister(Gathered from the half of prologe i read and the reviews). And while a locked ranma doesn't nessisarily turn me off right away there is a posibility of it becomeing something akin to yiao as the trend in naruto fics go.

So what i would like is a short synospsis detailing major plot points and where the direction of the fic seems to be going as alot of the times the direction seems to be fairly clear after a few chapters.

I think you answered your own question there, mate.

That's not really that much of a turn off, i like yuri and the posibility of yuri and Naruto crossovers are okay, not high on my to read list as most of them blow.

As i siad above Just looking for someone who might have read it to give a quick accurate lowdown to see if it was worth it as it is i quit reading it and am on the fense on whether or not to c0ontinue with it.

Well, Ranko has Ranma's personality (mostly) and slowly gets Naruto's memories whenever she meets new people. So far there's no romance, but Ranko will be placed in Team 8 with Sakura and Hinata.

Oh, and she's the container for Kyubi.

Is it worth the read? Well, I'm not the right person to ask since I have pretty low standards, but so far it's all right.

I figured I'd give this thread a nudge with a fic I've developed a love-hate relationship with:

Hogwarts 1/2 by 2ptTakrill.

Appears to be a first-ever effort, and feels like one of the old-style R+A romances from before the anti-KOTF bullshit started. There are some moments in there that are made of win and awesome. It's centered around Ranma and Akane, with some poorly-chosen points of continuity meshing.

Chi and magic are essentially the same thing, and the eastern version of muggles are those with 'low fighting spirit', though the author uses a poorly-chosen Japanese phrase. There's a bit of a cultural gulf between martial artists and wizards, with high-level masters rather looking down on wizarding society.

On the minus side, we get Robert Jordanesque levels of descriptiveness, Nodoka disapproving of Ranma acting masculine while female, and the dynamic between Ranma and Akane lacks the dynamics of the canon material.

The real crux of the problem, as I see it, is that instead of extracting the wacky hi-jinx, outrageous situations, wittiness, and other fun stuff from Nerima and injecting it into Hogwarts, we mostly get angst and pathos. Mostly. Harry Potter needs no more of that, especially during Half-Baked Plot.

In summary, the best parts involve the Ranma cast acting naturally. The low points are mostly some truly, truly retarded misspellings, some formatting problems courtesy of ff.net, and thrice-fucking-damned parenthetical statements here and there. I found myself too often glossing over sections to get to the good stuff.

It's a decent fic to chew on, but he needs a good beta bad.

The Birth of a Matriarch

I thought I remembered this as an OK fic but it is not.
Cologne locks Akane as a male and Ranma is pregnant and locked by chapter 3. For some reason Akane is good at martial arts as well.

Ranma will presumably become an amazon.

Worst fic I have touched in weeks.

The fic is mostly 'meh'. While its not vomit inducing, it is also nothing special. It has some OOCness and a bit of awkward wordings. It also goes to fast for the reader to suspend their disbelief at what is occurring.

Not read it, but how about:

Echoes of the Past by Gaming Ikari
Genma Saotome steals from a vampire who draws the wrong conclusion when he is nearly successful in escaping her. This leads to Alisa Perne becoming responsible for Ranma's upbringing. Crossover with The Last Vampire.
Ranma - Rated: T - English - Drama/General - Chapters: 7 - Words: 18,183 - Reviews: 72 - Updated: 9-8-09 - Published: 8-25-09
Personally... I would rather more on either 'Ripples of a Chaotic Pebble' or 'Galaxy Police Cadet Scramble'. But if this is good I'd read it... but I've no clue on the source materials for the cross.

Thoughts?

Well it's in first person, seems to alternate between ranma and alise(Sp)'s point of view. Normally thats enoguh to ensure i don't read it but it seems ok-ish so far. Ranma doesn't have a curse in it and it is going to be an alise(not really sure if thats her name or not, currently on vacation and was just browsing so i haven't read the latest chapter)

so i'd say overall it's so so

Honestly, I barely recognize it as a Ranma fic. Alisa's personality... irritates me and I've already gone on board in the updates thread calling her a mary sue. She pretty much dominates the plot as the stories more about her than it is about Ranma.

Oftentimes in fanfiction, you have a pretty good idea of where the story is going to go. I don't get that impression with this story.

Alisa comes off as a Mary-Sue because she's a 5000 year old vampire with the life experience you'd expect of someone that old and the physical strength that you'd expect from an eldrich vampire. She's "better" than Genma and Soun, and "better" than Ranma... but not insurmountable, and we don't know how she stacks up against Happy.

In this one... Alisa murdered Genma. She took in Ranma, and spun a tale that Genma left Ranma with her. Years later, she faked Genma's death.

She's basically raising Ranma to be her lover. There seems to be some honest emotional attachment on her part.

But Gaming Ikari has also dropped some hints that her deception is going to be unraveled. I honestly don't know where the author is going to go after that, on Ranma's part: forgiveness or revenge? Not to mention all the other people in Genma's life.

For some reason, when I read the crossover, I was thinking Blood: the Last Vampire and I was wondering which obscure character this Alisa was. Then I used wikipedia to figure out who the crap this blonde vampire was, and found out that it is a teen series. Huh...

'On A Clear Day You Can See Forever' by Mark MacKinnon

I've heard good things about it and I've had it bookmarked for months now and I've been meaning to give it more than a quick glance (I read, I dunno, half of the first chapter), but I just find myself not very interested. If I push myself to sit down and get reading, will it be worth it?
