Kickstarters

Only Kickstarter I ever pledged for was Wasteland 2. Can't even remember why, I never played the original. Guess I just trust the development team to make something good.

I'm really, really tempted to pledge for Original Sin though. I have been fighting every urge to even visit kickstarter since then because I know I could pledge myself into the poor house in a heartbeat, but even so Original Sin looks amazing. And there's only 18 hours left to pledge! I AM SO TORN WHAT DO I DO.

Ask yourself if you'd buy the game when it comes out. It'll be $40 at launch, so if you jump in for the lowest level you'll get a discount.

On the other hand you've got 700+ Steam games, I don't think you need to feel bad if you don't get this one.

*slaps self clean of misplaced urge to buy all the shiny new games*

You are absolutely right. Hell I'm still working on Kingdoms of Amalur right now, I really don't need another epic RPG right now.

I am pretty sure it is a parody. 80% sure.

If so, this will be funny as hell.

If not, it should be still funny as hell.

Put down money for Divinity even though I have bad memories of their last go at that IP.

I even put money down on Camelot Unchained. I don't think they're going to get funded, but I'm a sucker for RvR MMOs. Especially ones that start talking about dedicated crafting classes building siege weapons.

Divinity Original Sin hit its $1M stretch goal including Paypal numbers, so Larian makes the last stretch goal: NPC schedules, day/night cycles and weather systems, and moon phases having gameplay effects. It really is Ultima VII come again.

Really interesting gameplay post report. Wish I'd supported it now.

Well, Jagged Alliance: Flashback has twenty hours to make its funding goal, much less reach stretch goals. I think this deserves support because the stuff I've read about it has been nearly universally positive.

I've got some other Kickstarters to push, but I'll post those later; this is just an emergency notification.

Oh, dear.

I just backed a digital CCG.

Also, Camelot Unchained did end up squeaking by its funding goal. So I know what things I'll be doing, besides Minecraft, as a go to gaming time sink.

It is a very interesting system. I can see why it has already gotten almost half a million in pledges. Not sure if I will help back it though. Money issues.

Been hearing a lot about how Exalted is going downhill when it comes to keeping to their own lore and sort of abusing their more prolific fans.

Not completely sure what the problem is, just figure a word of warning if you decide to dive into the community. There might be more in-fighting than is normal for a tabletop.

I'm just going to play it. No interest in 'diving into the community'.

This will only be of interest to a small number of you, but "Explorations: Conquistador" has been completed and is now released. If you were a Kickstarter backer you should have received a download code to your choice of GOG, Steam, Desura or Gamer's Gate. I'm not playing it not because of JOB APPLICATIONS but it's in the queue.

Not too many interesting game Kickstarters right now, but that doesn't mean there are none.

Unrest is an RPG that I'm going to recommend sight-unseen by virtue of the fact that it's going to be set in India. It looks like it's going to be wholly reality based, which is more of a plus. I'm still going over the pitch and the updates, but it looks really interesting.

If only I had waited twenty-four hours to make the above post I wouldn't have to double post now. Ah well.

Double Fine is making a new game and they're doing it through Kickstarter: Massive Chalice is a turn based strategy game that they're saying is inspired by X-Com and Fire Emblem. To my eyes it seems more like Romancing SaGa 2... You're an immortal ruler fighting off a centuries long demonic invasion. Your soldiers will eventually die, either at the hands of the enemy or of old age, so you need to induce them to have children so that their heroic bloodlines can continue.

Sounds pretty good, I backed it for $20.

Let's turn the videogame market on its head. Backed.

Time for a Kickstarter update!

As many of you know, Shadowrun Returns has released, and it's pretty good. Sure the game is 12 hours long and is more of a demonstration of the toolset and has a checkpoint save system (AUGH), but NWN was also a demo and the fan made campaigns were excellent, plus the expansions were great. Certain Shadowrun fans with deep pockets got access to the toolset last month and have begun converting the massive backlog of roleplay modules into Shadowrun Returns modules, so there's going to be a lot of content for backers and buyers real soon.

If you backed or bought the game, share your impressions.

On to new projects: The creators of Syndicate Wars are looking to make a spiritual successor called Satellite Reign. Unfortunately they chose to go forward with Kickstarter UK, which doesn't accept Amazon payments. However they HAVE hit their target, which means that Paypal is now a valid payment option. Toss some cash their way; the concept stuff they've put up looks amazing and if even half of it pans out it'll be great. They're really good about updates too!

Chroma Squad looks like it could be fun since you're basically managing a sentai squad.

7 Days to die is a zombie game. That would be all there is to say about it, except that they're going whole-hog on the simulation aspect. Still not my cup of tea, but those of you enraged by World War Z's movie treatment might get something out of this.

Sixsense is launching a kickstarter for some new hardware on Sept 12th.

Official Page here: http://sixense.com/wireless

It's a controller similar to the Hydra from the look of it, but it uses up to five wireless motion tracking modules for full position and orientation tracking of the entire body. Seems like a cool idea and it's intended to work either on it's own or in tandem with the Oculus Rift VR goggles and Virtuix Omni multi-directional gaming treadmill. It can also be used with just the two controllers with two of the tracking modules inside of them or in 'other configurations' using any combination of the tracking modules and controllers well.

I'm very interested in this. I've got a dev kit version Oculus Rift already [I'm also planning on getting the higher resolution retail version as well], and I've considered getting a Virtuix Omni at some point in the future.

It's also backwards compatible with software that is compatible with the Hydra already and will feature a keymapping program similar to what Sixsense has already released for that controller as well.

The Hydra is already the best and most accurate motion controller I've ever used. It's developed by the same company responsible for the software drivers for the PS Move system. This is the first hardware they've produced under their own name, Razer helped develop the Hydra and Sony provided the hardware for the PS Move.

This thing looks pretty sweet and I'm hoping they meet their goals. I could really get into using these with my Oculus. The Hydra is very nice once you get it tweaked and configured, but it's wired and has a limited range. The Oculus along with the Virtuix Omni and a set of these all working together in games that are designed to take advantage of the tech would be epic, even if it's only officially supported by a couple of games. Plus they can all be keymapped as well to allow for limited use even in games that don't officially support them.

I like the way this looks so far, and I'll definitely be helping out at least a little with the kickstarter once it launches.

Looks like project phoenix hit 1,025,0000 at the end of their kickstarter. Some of the other ones were pretty ambitious but I'm happy the overworld exploration got squeezed into the game.
