Bleach Kido mechanics

#1
I noticed something about Kidos most about how powerful they can be when incantations are cast instead of simply saying number and name. In the recent ep of dubbed when matsumoto threw out the fireball kido with a full incantation it was a rather large ball of fire while during his battle with hyorinmaru Toshiro threw a simple number and name kido and it came out as a small rather weak fireball.

I assume full incantation kidos are stronger than number and name only kidos.

That's confirmed in the manga itself. Very early on, in fact.

Tends to vary a bit in regards to the 'how much more powerful' part of it. Byakuya for example could summon a massive mid level kido without chant, which Renji specifically denoted as "He used that with no chant and it's still so powerful." Tends to vary on your skill level, but apparently you can get close to full power if you're good enough at it. I wouldn't take anime as law in regards to this though

i can only assume that if byakuya decides to use a full incantation with say byakurei/white lightning kido instead of big bolt of electricity it might an outright lightning storm

No. Size is only an issue if you do something wrong. But we know that saying the chant makes it easier and not saying the name limits power. When Aizen messed up with number 90 it was because of the lack of the chant, but he expected to be able to do it without the chant. But we also saw the different result when he got it right.

Really, the chant is just a shortcut that can be bypassed with enough skill.

Wrong. The chant lends it greater power. You can drop the chant or only do it partially to get the kido out faster, but the tradeoff is a drop in power and potency. Aizen flat out stated this in Deicide. Remember the whole THIS IS A FULL INCANTATION FROM ONE WHO HAS SURPASSED SHINIGAMI AND HOLLOW! IT POSSESSES THE POWER TO DISTORT THE VERY FABRIC OF SPACE AND TIME! YOU CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO FATHOM IT, KUROSAKI ICHIGO! thing?

Yeah. That makes it pretty clear what role the chant actually plays.

Those with enough skill can draw off a ton of power anyway. It's what Byakuya did after all, though notably how high the kido is ranked also plays a role in the difficulty of this. Byakuya could get near full power from a Kido ranked mid 30's. At 90+ even Aizen fails. Quite a few variables honestly.

He only ever tried that spell twice. But I'm pretty sure that barrier spell he did during the flashback had no incantation used.

Splitting Void blocks any Destruction Art below . . . 89, was it? Byakuya and Aizen have both used it without the incantation, and it's worked as advertised.

Aizen's chantless Black Coffin failed to match the power of the full incantation version we saw later - and even that's a flawed comparison, because it wasn't a full incantation from normal Aizen.

It still took Komamura down, though. None of the Arrancar or even Tousen pulled that off, so it's quite a feat.

Komamura got up again later though, so it's about the same as Fly!Tousen's case, though admittedly it took him a bit longer. Though given he'd attack the giant as opposed to the man himself, that's already a variable case.

Komamura's bankai sucks. I mean seriously, that damage transfer only screws him over. Why the hell does Mayuri get off scott free on that shit. Well admittedly he has modified his Zan, so that might be it...

Mayuri's bankai sucks. It's just he modified it so it actually has some uses. But really, he's not the type of guy who should try fighting with a giant, poison or not.
