As the description goes I must be insane for what I have planned. Before that, however, here they are.

The Legendary Rogue Daggers

Yes, daggers as in plural. They come in a pair, now I have no idea what they are called just yet but I really just don't give a damn about that. The entire point is THEY WILL BE MINE!

Let me outline my plan for you.

First off I've already looked into these delectable beauties being real, its confirmed by Ghostcrawler himself in an interview by MMO-champs.

What little we know about these daggers is that they are directly related to the last untainted, uncorrupted, independent but still evil Black Dragon from which we apparently find in the badlands. Honestly I never saw that in the original content back when I first leveled up my rogue so I'm going BACK out there and as my first order of business I'm retracing my leveling back into the badlands with the Cata content.

Second order of business, I got my hands on an awesome independent gold farmer who only charges $10.00 for 10,000, $50.00 for 50,000, and so forth and so on. From this point onwards until patch 4.3 comes out which is sometime in December I'm spending $50.00 every paycheck (which is every two weeks) and I'm going to hoard all of that gold to help buy gear for progression, bribes for heroic runs by better guilds (if I'm not in one already) and to help level my professions faster because I'm gonna be too busy to farm mats while I'm pimping him out.

Between now and then however I'll be getting other stuff out of the way.

3rd order of business, upgrading my computer. I'm adding an additional 8gigs of ram, cross-firing my video card and getting a 6 core processor, I went cheep and got the 4 core, luckily my motherboard can handle the change so I don't need to buy a new one. And last but not least I'm buying a 60g SSD for the sole purpose of running my WoW off of that in conjunction with the 120g SSD I already have running my C drive.

4th order of business, buy a new chair for my desk, this one keeps sinking down while playing.

5th, never turn down a double shift at work except for on raid nights.

6th, ???

7th, PROFIT!

Ps- on a side not I've also begun running again to offset how much weight I'll probably gain when the next patch hits cause I'm NOT fucking moving from my computer.

... so, thoughts?

Unless you create your own guild/consistent 10man, you will not get the legendary.

Every guild has their own rogues. Any guild that will be doing heroics will have 2-4 rogues on their roster, and they will have been there longer then you and thus get it first.

As established this tier, it takes a lot longer to get a legendary on 25 normal/10 heroic then on 25 heroic, and even longer on 10 normal. If you have as little experience as your post suggest, you will not be raiding 25 heroics off the bat, or even soon enough for the first pair of daggers to go 'quickly'. And by quickly, i mean the 2 weeks-3 weeks-4/5 weeks that the current legendary takes for each part.

Basically, if you're only pouring money into the game to get a legendary, I'd advise highly against it. Unless they are completely shifting their legendary paradigm from what they established this tier, the earliest conceivable time you could get one is about 30 weeks after patch hits.

The best I can recommend for you is to transfer to a server like illidan or malganis that has constant gdkps. Spend your money there NOW, buying gear to get geared up in THIS tier. With luck you'd be in mostly 378/391s by the time patch hits, at which point you can find a middle of the road 25man guild thats recruiting rogues. If they are, that means they either have 0 or 1, which would reduce the amount of time it takes you to get one. This will be unlikely though, as there will be an influx of rogues apping around trying to do the same thing you are, and I don't know what your raid experience is like to actually tell you if you have a chance with anything moderately decent.

good advice, I'll look into pushing my gear now rather than later. As for finding a good server, I'm currently on Korgath-Alliance, ilvl is 373 and as far as the server is concerned for my gear I'm one of the best assassination rogues there, I push my dps well past what most rogues with equivalent gear push out.

I think I'm already on a good server for alliance from what I've seen, we got like 9 guys alliance side that I know of that have the legendary and most of them are from two guilds. One runs multiple 10 mans, the other runs two 25 mans, big guilds and they push the content. I'm good friends with one of the MT's from the 25man guild and I have a decent rep with the GM of the other 10man guild.

As to you wishing my death, eat me. I don't plan to buy gold, I already have - not my fault you can't get in on my source so stop hating.

While 373 average ilvl isnt impressive, it's still a lot better then I was imagining.

Looking at Korgath, there are a number of 'decent' 25 man guilds. Get Well Soon only has one rogue on their roster according to WoWprogres, and Resurgence doesn't seem to have any.

I suggested the server xfer to get Firelands Gear from gdkp runs, which generally only happen frequently and successfully for the best gear on superoverpopulated servers. 373 ilvl means you aren't even in full normal firelands gear, which can easily be improved.

I would still say improve your gear now and join a guild ASAP to up your chances at the earliest possible legendary, but unless you dedicate yourself a lot more then your ilvl suggests (mine is about 388, and I'm only missing 5 upgrades, which include 2 pieces off h rage and upgrading my 391 version of the legendary to the 397 version) you won't get one for a long enough time that wasting money buying gold is just that: a waste.

damn, nice gear 388? what server you on?

my guild is clearing Firelands and we're starting Hardmodes next week, the best thing sabout this server I've found is that except for two rogues in the top guild on my server for my gear I'm only about 5 to 8k dps behind them, I've got other rogues with more gear than me doing less.

still my biggest problem is that I run with a group that has a BEAR as MT a Hunter that seems to effect what drops in his favor and a DK that just last night stole my god damn shoulders off of domo.

5-8k dps is huge.

Like 20-25% more dps then you : /

Also bears are fine to tank. Hell Paragon rolls with Sejta, a bear tank.

Also heroic modes are a complete and utter joke at the moment, they were nerfed to hell last week.

Ero, I have 570k~ish gold. Don't hate because you can't figure out how an economy works and then get defensive about supporting gold farmers.

Also, generally, skill > gear. The fact that you're 5k-8k dps behind another of your class while in 373 is telling. Use Ask Mr Robot to make sure you have the right gems, chants and forges- sometimes reforging is non obvious. Use Noxxic to double check your rotation. SimulationCraft to narrow things down exactly if you're going to be serious about this.

The rogue community has some of the best theorycrafters of all time, take advantage of them and their work. It's dense material. Read it, understand it, start working it out yourself. Someone else's numbers won't work for your playstyle, gear and ping.

Before you tell me to shove it, keep in mind that my warrior is 369 equipped because I trade pug due to being busy, and I still put out around 28-29k single target. Little shit adds up.

For a warrior, prioritizing colossus smash before a BT seems rather inconsequential, after all, colossus smash increases damage and BT hits really hard, so it doesn't matter, right? Wrong. Little shit like that will kill your DPS over a fight.

Do not let that happen.

This is why you need to run your own numbers. Look at every site out there- they'll usually tell you that the rotation is BT-something-BT-something. They then tell you the priority is Colossus Smash, BT, RB, Slam, BS, HS over 70 rage.

The 'cookie cutter' shit is decent, but won't give you the DPS you need.

</endwarr comparison>

After you've gotten your DPS up, work on your networking. No, I'm serious. Best place to be is a walk-on in several top guilds to the point of where they save a spot for you in raids. I managed this one in WoTLK as a tank. It is fucking amazing (and incredibly hard, of course- I'll probably never manage it again.)

This all assumes, of course, that you're intelligent enough to stay out of fire, among other things.

if a guild requires a pug, ever, to act as a tank, they are not a 'top guild'.

Especially if they require it continuously.

Their alt runs are another story.

for one, I'm talking about I'm behind 5 to 8k dps behind guys with ilvl 383 or better.
that's at least ten points behind these guys, that's a lot of gear.

I'm doing MORE dps than most guys my with my gear level, pretty much all of them in fact excluding guys who have JUST the right pieces of gear. On Rag just now before we called it, I never went below 18k dps even with all the fazes and running around. At the start of the fight where I got to attack him uninterrupted I was pushing closer to 27k. If I had the gear for combat I'd be all over that but I'm working with assassination atm.

Secondly I use both noxxic and mr robot, I take into account everything I can find to get my gear right, as for learning an economy unless I was willing to spend every waking moment being an AH hoar then ya your right I'll never get how to make that much money legitimately, and that's why I support an American gold farmer ;)

That or just get a bot.

As to you playing a Warrior Shirotsume, I'm thinking you play a fury war right? Just making sure before I say anything further on that.

Your networking idea is perhaps the most I'll get out of that reponse, trouble is like Stormfury pointed out, there are other rogues they'll have ahead of me, getting in on their raids wouldn't be so bad if the guilds on this server weren't so secular.

As to staying out of the fire... bro I'm a rogue that's like the 3rd rule.

Stormfury: It was less a matter of them pugging a tank, and more a matter of me being the best skilled and geared tank on the server, and worth subbing a guild tank out for. Anything for the progression, you know?

Ero: That matters less than you think. Somewhere I've got a log of me being .4% damage under the best warrior on my server when I was grouped with him for FL, who is only 4 pieces off BiS.

Look into simulationcraft- theorycrafting is less hard than you think. Also, making money is waaay less hard than you think, I actually turned to it because I was too busy to do anything else but i wanted some way to relax.

Yes, I play a fury warrior.

As for networking- like I said, you're probably not going to reach that level of e-aclaim. Nor do you want to, it turns out, but that's another story. most important thing- get gear. Be very, very, very fucking good at your class. Teach others how to play rogue if they are under performing.
BE POLITE. Make it clear you're helping them. Back off if they don't want help. Teaching others like that sends a message- you know your class well, you're nice, and you're generous.

Guilds like that.

Pug a lot. This may seem counter-intuitive. It's not. It gets you in contact with a LOT of people VERY FAST. It's your time to market yourself.

If someone is being an asshat- it's a dick move, but that's your key to become the friend of the rest of the group. This will take practice, but ease in some subtle mockery of him when he does/says something idiotic. The key here is to phrase it so that it invokes third/second person plural- us and we. Basically, set the group WITH you against someone else. You'll get them in on it. Double benefit- you're seen as witty and just, and a chill guy by the WHOLE GROUP. You also get a subtle undertone of leadership and charisma.

The asshat learns not to be an asshat.

Everyone on the server should know who you are, and it should be positive. Then keep amping it up. RUN pugs. BE FAIR.

Never, fucking ever, fly off the handle unless it's to better your 'image.' Sounds conniving? Suck it up.

Be very careful with this last one. I pulled this once, very low key. I made a point of never cursing, and being very coherent and well-spoken.
In a pug I was running, a gleader of guild tried to ninja, failed, and then started slamming us all with nonstop curing/slurs/etc.
I very calmly ripped him a new asshole in vent, after which I kicked him from the group, compensated the group for putting up with him, and then moved on and never spoke of it again.

Also a good tip: don't talk about yourself. Don't be like "Dude, I did so much damage." or "I showed that wannabe-ninja!"

They have eyes and ears, talking about yourself makes you sound like a douchebag.

You getting the idea here?

Still calling this ridiculous. Guild does not stand chance at being competitive if its tanks are so bad they bring a pug in. Moreover, said pug is highly unlikely to be the best geared/most skilled tank on the server WITHOUT being in the top guild on the server already anyway, so unless you like server xfered from some high pop gdkp filled server that you got your gear on to a backwater piece of crap, this is still pretty ridiculous.

Ridiculous but not impossible, back on Stormreaver during wrath (when it was good) there were was a set of of tanks, one per each class who while having never been in a single guild puged their way up to being some of the best on the server. Horde side they had two em and Mediocrity -if they were out a tank for 25man heroic icc- would ask one of them first over anyone else on the server.

course these guys knew it and were mercenary about it, had to pay em to MT for ya.

Shirou, I know the draw backs of networking, sadly I don't even have to try and I come off as a sarcastic asshat i have "that voice" which sets people on edge. Honestly its amusing most of the time but when I don't want it too it comes out even worse when I try to be polite.

If you don't believe it, here's the story.

Naxx: In a really nice guild, full BiS, main tank, the works. Shortly before Ulduar is released, guild drama causes 3/4 the guild to server change and the rest to quit playing. I'm as part of an awkward three man cell that did not quit or leave. We leave guild and begin looking around for a progression Ulduar guild.

Ulduar is released. The current top guild on the server, in need of a tank, starts vetting me. This involves, obviously, going on raids with them. I start gearing up through this. I'm about to be inducted into the guidl when my age at the time became known. I had not known this was a problem, but buried in the rules was that you could not be under 21. They thought I was over 21. Even though I was close, rules ARE rules. I'm dropped from consideration. I still fill in their tank spot though- at this point I'm basically an unofficial member of their guild with normal benefits, still getting gear.

Yes, this is stupid of them. Extremely stupid. But you'll find that hardcore guilds are mainly just really hardcore about the rules.

Eventually, they find a server transfer in decent gear and I'm not invited anymore. At this point, however, I'm gaining gear. The pieces that weren't BiS were either one or two spots off BiS.

So I run some 25 man pugs- There's a surprising number of intelligent, decently geared alts on my server. I think I gain two upgrades to BiS in this time.

Another GDKP gets me another. i never do another GDKP, they're fucking annoying.

And then I get asked by another top guild to replace a tank that didn't log in. (From what I understand, very strong words were had with him :p) They had asked the first guild if they knew anyone, and was pointed to me.

So that's my introduction to this guild, we'll say B. I tank damn near perfectly, and we do some hardmodes. I think I get a piece or two. Can't remember. This starts a chain of me being bounced around a lot of guilds as a good sub tank if something happens.

Now, a quick aside. My server was, and still is to an extent, fucking cutthroat about it's hardmodes and server firsts. Poaching is not only valid, it's damn near encouraged. If you can't keep members, you don't deserve them. If there's someone better than you and the guild can get them, they get your spot so you better get yourself damn good. I've known guild masters to surrender their spot to get someone else in on the fight due to comp/gear/etc. Now, usually, this happens inguild with benches. Sometimes, however...

Well.

I got a whisper from Guild A. "How would you like to tank Algalon?"

Yes yes yes yes yesyesyesyeysyeysysysyyfysfrybgdfjnkxhsnlj;hsnjl;ngsjnl;gns!

If you don't know, Algalon is a bitch. A huge, massive bitch that hits you for retarded amounts dual-wielding and dots you and then punches you so fucking hard you phase out of reality.

Being really, really goddamn good at your job is not optional. Nor is being completely geared out the ass.

Apparently I had somehow become the most geared tank on the server when I wasn't looking. Probably because every other tank on the server wasn't getting drops or something.

And they already knew I was damn good at tanking.

Now, tbh, I really had no business being able to tank algalon- me being the best geared tank wasn't saying much yet.

Somehow, fifty gazillion wipes later, we manage it. I'm given the tanking piece that drops in thanks... or because I'm the only tank in the raid at the time.

That's when it hit me... "Dude, I could be a sub tank even for people that show up if I do this right."

I gain a reputation as a very good tank at this point. I'm getting bounced around a SHIT TON now. High level guilds too. If a tank misses, I get brought in. Also, tanks on the server were starting to get lax with their attendance because they knew I would have their backs.

Multiple times I would get whispers ahead of time asking if I could cover for them so they could take gf on a date/watch game/ do something else.

Fuck yeah.

Pretty soon I'm BiS.

This entire time I'm starting to become a trade chat icon.

Basically, this cycle continues on and builds upon itself.

So no, it is possible, it's just hard as shit, requires insane luck, a gear reset while having the previous BiS, special circumstances, and becoming a server legend.

Hence why that character is abandoned. Fucking annoying, honestly. I don't want whispers from the entire goddamn server every time I say hi in trade >.<

And yes, Guild A HAS formally apologized to me for taking me out of consideration because of my age. From what I understand, they no longer age discriminate.

Apparently, if you get the new legendary staff, a blue dragon pops up in the middle of Stormwind or Orgrimmar with a replica of you sitting on same dragon.

Me talking to the blue drakes flying around Stormwind...

The big dragon:

And you can kinda see the female gnome who's riding him with the staff in hand:

A video to show it off better. My friend Pokeprof recorded it and you can hear my nasally voice replying to him. I was the one to find it, and I told him about it. We were initially stumped on what it was, until he decided to check around. I was heading to Ogrimmar to see if it had shown up there, and obviously it didn't.

I was a complete dork because I hadn't seen the gnome when we'd decided to check both cities, so I thought this was preparation for the next big event. So, when he explained "it was the gnome who got it", I thought that he'd been referring to an NPC, completely derping for a bit.
