That's... that's disheartening. ._.
It's better than nothing, is it not?

It's better to have a slower translation than to NOT have one right?

Perhaps, but in my experience slow translation rates continually graduate into complete drop of the story. Be it anime or manga or novel, if the translation is slow as hell... it gets dropped.

Apparently the Oreimo author has a new one out. But it looks like it's not gonna be blood related siblings this time.

Hey I was thinking of looking over Familiar of Zero. WHat's the best source to read it: the manga or novel?

I've heard news of flanderization in the anime so yeah...I'm not touching that.

Novel has a better story, but it's permanently incomplete on account of dead author. Manga's like... still in season 1 of the anime, last I checked. And as for ZnT's novel translation I won't recommend it but that's because I hate its translation team so pay no attention to me 'bout that. >.>

Wait Baka-T has a bad translation?

But while the author's passed on, I'd still like to see his original source.

No, it's not that it's a bad translation. It's that the translators are mostly assholes.

I was exposed to them on AnimeSuki's Zero no Tsukaima forum. Unfortunately, inferiority to the novels aside, I enjoyed the anime. And that, apparently, is a crime, and the BT translators for ZnT came down hard on anyone who expressed any kind of appreciation for the anime.

So yeah. They're assholes and I don't like them and I don't like recommending their work to anyone. But despite that dislike, it is of a good quality, translation-wise.

Well as long as I can get the gist of the story from either medium, I'm good.

No such luck with the anime, the first season was okay with cosmetic changes and some personality changes that didn't detract from the viewing experience but... everything after that... ehhh, nope.

It was during the Kugimiya Tsun-boom before she started getting more cutesy roles too so the TSUN was dialed up a notch or three.

Does anybody know if the Strike The Blood Light Novel is any better than the anime, and if so, where can I read it?

Psycho Love Comedy. I think this will be an interesting read.
Finished the first volume. It wasn't that interesting to be honest.
I started reading it as I had a feeling that it there would be yanderes as love interests. And it fullfilled that promise. But it wasn't exciting or funny. It was boring and predictable.
The setting and general plot sucked. I was first intrigued at the plot. Who framed the MC? Why? How will he prove his innocence?
The answers were not entertaining. <_<
MC is bland. Strong yet boring.
Masked busty girl is masked with a gas mask and busty. Her yandere personality was hard to read/follow. Not very interesting beside the mask and the tits and her slightly trollish personality.
Redhead is aloof and a pettanko (despite having a normal chest in the artwork). Tsundere. Only things I liked about her was her hair and the minor twist/reveal of her backstory.
Clumsy girl is unnecessary. Bites her tongue so often that one only gets a vague understanding of what she is saying.
The trash mobs are trash mobs. It is hard to keep a track on who is who (I know one have a mohican and the other is a necrophiliac).
The teachers are sadists. Nothing more to say about that.

All in all, I was disappointed and I won't make an effort with reading the other volumes when they are translated (I glanced quickly at the uploaded images and none seemed appealing/interesting).

So I decided to do some work on their translation of Satan: Part-Timer. You know, because the other official translation they have is even less complete than the first one.

Is it normal for Light Novels to have little dialogue and plenty of 'they found out' or 'the person said that' periods where they use passive voice and such? [I know it's normal for them to be so repetitive in their terms that they've repeated because they are trying to be mostly literal in their literal translations so it's a bothersome thing to me who is bothered by such a thing. As are you now.]

Usually that's how it is in the Baka-Tsuki translations for the one's I've read so far, but it does get irritating having to go around that repetitive circle constantly.

On another note, I just really want to know what y'all consider some of the better Light Novels around; translated or otherwise.

Index. Spice Wolf. Haruhi. Hands down.

Runners up would be Baka to Test. Blazblue. Haganai. and Fate/Zero. I'm looking into more of them but that'll take time.

BTW, Sword Art Online comes out on the 22. I've had mine pre-ordered since like January.

Also, fuck you, TokyoPop.

I don't even know how to feel about this. On one hand, I'll be buying the fuck out of them. On the other hand, its going to take like a decade for them to catch up, by which point Kamachi will have another 30 novels out.

... you hadn't caught on?

'cause I am pretty sure this scenario has been brought up recently in the Index thread and BT having to take down the translations was a mentioned as a thing that could happen.

Well, I got it all downloaded as PDFs from BT. I can put it up in a .rar file later, if anyone needs them after BT pulls the project.

So Baka-Tsuki takes down all the novels and stops translating? Is that how this works? :ph43r:
