LiveJournal Issues/Deletions

I posted this at Anifics, but thought it might interest those here as well, and since it only barely touches on fanfiction and anime, placed it in general fanfiction.

Anyone else hear of the issues with LiveJournal suddenly deleting some of their sites based on content?

Been tracking in on several different ZDNet and Anime News Network Feeds reporting on it.

Apparently, several of the sites were used by Harry Potter FanFiction. A bunch of other topics deleted as well.

From what I have read, it looks like a conservative group managed to convince LJ to delete certain comunities that were related to child porn and things like that. The problem (if you want to call it like that) is that it also affected some fanfiction comunities, because they had stories that dealt with child molestation/explotation. The reason Harry Potter comunities were deleted was because they were full of yaoi and slash. Seriously.

EDIT: Also, in before shitquake.

They're doing the same stuff yahoo did a year ago, so, who can say they're surprised?

And it ain't like those HP Hi-We-Molest-Harry-For-Fun groups are going to be missed anyway.

Here is an odd follow up twist on the RSS feed news on this:

Feed: Anime News Network - Anime News
Title: LiveJournal Admits Errors in Suspensions, Offers Fixes
- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-...ns-offers-fixes
Follow-Up: Six Apart Chairman and CEO Barak Berkowitz has acknowledged mistakes made during this week's suspension of about 500 accounts on its LiveJournal community site. He has also said the site will "try to fix it" by reviewing journals, restoring some "wherever appropriate," and asking some users "to clarify their profiles to avoid the appearance that they are soliciting or encouraging illegal activities." The accounts included those on lolicon (romance involving female minors) and shotacon (romance involving male minors) fiction.

Ah, but you see, it wasn't just groups that had stuff like that on it.

Any journal (community, personal or whatever) that had interests like 'lolita', 'death note' (yes, Death Note. I have no idea why), 'cute girls', 'little girls', 'boy and boy love', 'yaoi', and other such interests were deleted without any sort of warning, or further checking.

Apparently, there were a few journals that got deleted because of pictures that had underage girls hugging each other... or something.

As to the RSS feed, eh. Glad they're not like SOME other places that don't even bother to correct mistakes. Although, it's not like they can ignore it when it gets so much coverage.

Ummm...

They did not really make a 'mistake', LiveJournal is the one stating it made a 'mistake'. Personally, I suspect they simply did not expect the uproar to be as big as it was.

As for RSS *news* sources, well, I generally stick fairly reputable sources in their respective fields. Mainly a combination of ZDNet (Ziff Davis), Anime News Network,Animal Plaet, History Channel, and MangaNews.

Yeah, you're correct, calling it a mistake isn't exactly right.

The main point is that people got annoyed over it and they're trying to placate them now. Which is kind of funny considering this mess was started by some group throwing a fit over certain communities... or something like that. :/
