It had been false, meant to fool Tsuruko, but in the end Keitaro and Motoko were the fools, it turned out to be all so real. Oneshot
While I don't care for Kei/Moto, this oneshot was actually pretty good.

As a Motoko fan, I enjoyed the earlier suggestion. Though, the latter half of the story was just disconnecting. The author had a PM discussion with me and it turns out that the K+M pairing wasn't even the original idea to begin with. It started with some Naru- (semi-bashing) ? that ended up as a weird kind of footnote in the story than anything else.

Now, I just came across THIS gem,

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8315132/1/Press_Start_Otaku' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Press Start Otaku!</a>

A Love Hina and Lucky Star Crossover. The premise has me excited over where it could go. Or more accurately, the journey that it will take.

I see "Love Hina/Lucky Star" which got me interested enough to click on it. Then I see one of the characters is Konata. Now I'm very interested.

Edit: Well. Color me interested. To be honest I was hoping the two would be older, but it doesn't take away from the story at all. Konata's comments about a "flag event" and the situation being like something straight out of an anime are perfectly in-character. Keitaro doesn't seem like as much of a loser as he was in canon, so that's a plus. Even though the fic's flagged as romance I can't bring myself to dislike it very much. Strange considering I usually avoid romance fics like the plague. Eh, it's probably Konata.

Looking forward to more interactions between the two. As well as Konata's friends' reactions when they find out that Konata has a male friend. Not a boyfriend (oh, they aren't anywhere near that stage, having just met in person for the first time), but even so other than Sebastian Konata&co never interact with any male characters outside of parents.

So it's a Keitaro/Motoko that's a bit OOC but it's justified in that it takes place the summer after Keitaro first fails to get into Toudai and neither of their problems are quite settled in and I think it was handled pretty well.

Was that fic posted somewhere before? I seem to recall it but don't remember from were.

I remember really liking that fic, but it hasn't updated in two years. Supposedly not dead, though.

The story does have a problem in that the timeline would put Keitaro's age at 18, and Motoko at 14. A 4 year age gap doesn't seem so implausable when Keitaro is in his 20s, but as teenagers that gap is freaking huge (though apparently not criminal; age of consent 13 wtf Japan). Author seems to be aware of it though.

Meh. Different sensibilities for different groups. Up until a century ago, I'd imagine no one would bat an eye. Dunno why people expect change to occur that fast.

Technically the age of consent is young, but most prefectures in Japan have a higher age of consent.

In spite, or maybe because, of never watching/reading either of the fandoms present I still like it.

Best part: how Soujiro's plan backfired spectacularly. I look forward to more updates. Too bad this one took so long, though.

About TIME !!!! YYEEEESSS !!!!!!! :D

Damn ... too short. But, yes the whole "plan backfired" was good. :)

Does anyone know of a character similar to Konata from some other fandom? I have half a mind to try my hand at a similar pairing now...

Someone once wrote a fic where Keitaro came to the Hinata already married--His wife was Tomo of Azumanga Daioh fame. Hilarity ensued. Too bad the fic is dead.

I remember that story. In fact, I think I was a regular reviewer for it too. It was enjoyable, but I don't know squat about Azumanga Daioh to pick it up.

I need to re-watch Ai Yori Aoshi, but what about going in the opposite direction? Let's change the "promise" to just "going to Toudai" and have Keitaro be in a loving relationship with Miyabi Kagurazaki from the beginning instead. :snigger:

... hmmm... wondering if I'm in the wrong thread here...

Konata is a nice girl if you understand her hobby, and she is really cool.

I'd so totally hit that like the fist of an angry god if I were in Keitaros shoes.

Neither of them are interested in romance right now. Maybe. If one of them asked the other, I suspect the answer would be "yes." But both of them live pretty far apart, and long-distance relationships rarely work. Especially fledgeling ones like Keitaro and Konata, both of whom are strangers to romance, galge games not included. Now if Konata goes to the Sou, and lives with Keitaro in the future? Sure, I could see it happening.

Hopefully either the "Promise Girl" deal is either erased, or is greatly toned down, to give Konata and Keitaro a chance. Or hell, when Konata is told that he doesn't even remember who she looks like, just that they will go to Tokyo U with him, she might use her Genre Savvyness (which is sometimes Wrong), think it's a fetish of some sort go to Tokyo U. Or put on a typical student outfit with glasses to try and entice him. After all, we know from Lucky Star that while Konata is a major Otaku and can say ridiculous things as a result., she is also pretty smart when she wants to be, able to get consistently high grades in tests and homework even though she spends barely any time studying.

Konata is one year younger than him right? So Mitsune's age?

Konata can probably get into the college she wants which would be Keitaros second year as a ronin. So they would have reason to both go to the Hinata Sou, assuming Konata's college of choice is nearby.

The fic isn't bad. I just wish that the guy finds a better beta because the way that it is now makes reading the fic difficult.

Hmm, the author needs to do some more research.

I doubt that any otaku doesn't know of Miyazaki. He was and still is a huge name in the anime. Lots Japanese people of all ages, even ones that aren't into anime in the slightest, know and have seen his works. Even middle aged people are highly likely to recognize his work.

Flag events aren't cute or interesting, especially handled with the faux-eroge "options", that stuff just breaks the immersion.

Lastly, the guy really needs a beta or do better proofing.

My older sister never heard of George Lucus. It's stupidly unlikely someone never heard of a such a big name as Miyazaki in his home country but not imposable.

Yes, but is your sister a huge sci-fi fan? Huge as in obsessively into sci-fi and a collector of memorabilia?

People tend to forget that being an Otaku is a really narrow category, a person has to be stupidly and utterly obsessed to be correctly categorized as one.

The fic is depicting Keitaro as an Otaku. Not any the strange unique type that likes trains or airplanes, but the type that like games and anime. Imagine the astronomical odds of a person that is, by the definition, an Otaku: a person that is unhealthy obsessed with certain things not to know of one of the hugest names in that business.

That is like asking a basketball fan not to know who Jordan is.

Criticism aside, I like the overall idea of the fic. I just don't like the execution.
