Magic, Steampunk, Westerns

I've been bouncing this idea around in my head for years, but then again I bounce a lot of ideas around, but they never actually get written.

ANYWAYS! One of the ideas I've had is to take the whole idea of the Western genre, in the sense of being the last new frontier with the whole 'wild west' lack of law, hyper-rugged individualism, shootouts, etc., and throw magic into the system, something along the lines of the Dresden Files system, but with magic being fairly public and well-known. Go out into the Wild West, tame the environment, outcome others who want to reap the bounties of the Wild West, but also fight supernatural horrors that continue to make the West 'wild'.

Then incorporate steampunk elements in there, so you could potentially have a shootout between somebody driving a steam-powered mech versus some summoned eldritch horror, but I've thought many times about dropping the steampunk entirely and just doing something 'Wild West with magic'.

Six Gun Tarot sounds somewhat similar, at least as far as Western+Magic. Doesn't have any steampunk as far as I've gotten in it so far, and the magic is more subtle so far, but its there.

Fascinating. I'll have to give it a try, though I'll need to wait a few days for it to be transferred to my library (I could always just pay for it but I'm frugal despite my ka-ching!)

So I did read that book, and it had...nothing, really to do with my premise. I was thinking more like 'Dresden in the Wild West with steampunk thrown in for good measure'.
