Well, here's something I wanted to do for a long time. All the recent talk about Magic and new decks made me want to create a topic exclusively to discuss sets, cards, decks and strategies.

Anyway... got a few more Time Spiral and Planar Chaos cards today. Among others, found a Lotus Bloom :cumdrool: , two Dust Elementals (with whom I can already see the bouncing tricks using Calciderm) and one Teneb, The Harvester (who gives me mixed feelings).

I'll probably try a White Weenie with the Dust Elementals, Calciderm and a few other such cards... thoughts?

A mono-coloured deck? Could be troublesome if somebody throws down a Pro White creature and smacks you senseless...

GH, I guess the question would be, "Where are you planning on taking the deck?" By that I mean more of a casual environment, playing at a local store, or higher level sanctioned tournaments (PTQs, etc.)?

White Weenie does have a lot of good creatures and spells right now (Knight of the Holy Nimbus, Calciderm, Griffin Guide, Soltari Priest, Sunlance, etc.), but there are some spells that'll give it fits.
Sulfur Elemental comes to mind (2R, Creature - Elemental, 3/2: Flash (can be played as an instant), Split Second (while this spell is in the stack, other spells and activated abilities can't be played), All White Creatures get +1/-1.
Also don't forget Black now has Wrath of God (Damnation).

I've always been more of a control player myself. Blame an old friend of mine who hated Blue so much he gave me all his Blue cards - Stasis was the top card on the stack. Guess what I ended up playing for several years? :evil2:

I'm a Green player here, though sometimes I'll mix it in with another color. When I do, it's usually Green/White.

Played clerics for a while, and though I loved them I still don't have the cards for a complete deck.

Don't play so much anymore, but bringing out an old deck is always fun. Usually more fun for the other person, though, as I wasn't too into buying all the cards.

Oh god, I love Magic. I started playing back when...Was it 7th edition came out?

Anyway. A Stasis Deck I've been working on.

20 Islands

4 Vedalken Mastermind
2 Gulf Squid
4 Looter il-Kor
4 Cloud of Faeries
2 Palinchron

3 Stasis
2 Brain Freeze
3 Brainstorm
3 Parallel Thoughts
3 High Tide
4 Isochron Scepter
2 Rewind
2 Mana Leak
2 Quash

Side Board

2 Energy Flux
2 Crawlspace
3 Winter Orb
2 Spellbook
2 Ivory Tower
2 Energy Field
2 Ensnare

It's a bitch in multiplayer. Especially when you get the right cards out.

Well, I normally play at local shops, but there's a few players around here who own Power Nine, so Type 1 is right out of the question for me. I usually play Extended or Standard.

My current deck is a blue/green graft deck that makes large use of Dragon Blood and Experiment Kraj to grab all abilities from every creature I can see... :snigger: Few things are nastier than an Experiment Kraj that's both protected from all colors and indestructible...

I'll post a decklist later.

Right now, though, I'm torn between a White Weenie, a Thallid deck and a Sliver deck. Thoughts?

Go Elf!

You can never go wrong with an Elf deck. :p

I haven't played Magic at all since the mid-1990's, and I pretty much have no idea what's gone on since then. I liked it when I played it, but I was never any good because I wasn't willing to spend a lot of money on cards and lacked patience.

Thallid actually has a lot of decent support but you can never go wrong with Sliver.

Pridefall: Ah, the memories... I couldn't even give you a Stasis decklist anymore, it's been so long since I picked it up and I played so many different versions, from using Shimmer to Squandered Resources/Sheltered Valley to Gush/Morphling.

GH: White Weenie or Slivers. As a Sliver bonus, you can kill with poison counters!

Standard Sliver Deck
4x Virulent Sliver
4x Sinew Sliver
4x Spinneret Sliver
3x Gemhide Sliver
4x Necrotic Sliver
2x Harmonic Sliver
2x Might Sliver
2x Pulmonic Sliver
2x Essence Sliver
2x Homing Sliver

2x Tromp the Domains
4x Mana Tithe
2x Harmonize

4x Terramorphic Expanse
3x Swamp
8x Forest
8x Plains

Standard White Weenie
4x Icatian Javelineers
4x Savannah Lions
4x Sinew Sliver
4x Knight of the Holy Nimbus
4x Soltari Priest
2x Whitemane Lion
3x Stonecloaker
4x Calciderm
1x Dust Elemental

4x Mana Tithe
4x Griffin Guide

4x Flagstones of Trokair
18x Plains

...or something like that anyway. I'm usually too lazy to show up to the store with a deck, that's why I like drafting so much. :snigger:

I haven't played magic since the Weatherlight chronicles, though I have bought a pack since every now and then.

I remember buying a single pack out of one of the new ones at the time and pulling out Phage the Untouchable who was apparently one of the main storyline characters.

Ihad several differnt decks back when I played, I had a Green/Red/Blue deck which was pretty effective that used several Lava Bursts and other Direct Damage from the red, Streams of Life and other healing things from the green, and Blue for counter spells.

I also had characters like lowland basilisks which killed any creature it battled with at the end of turn and had a few of the enchanments that would make a creature have the same ability and it had a couple lure enchantments as well.

Ditto, though in my case it was cause everyone I knew stopped playing and they it seemed like every new expansion had it's own little rules and whatnot, we ended up arguing bout them more than we did playing.

But damn if all the talk doesn't make my fingers itch to go buy some cards and put together a deck ( I have a few dozen of all colors leftover from when I still played, but nothin particularly good. )

I used to like blue decks, control/counterspell decks were my favorite for awhile, though I also liked dabbling with white/red decks too. I shudder to think how badly I'd likely get crushed if I started playing again though :headbanger:

Here's an idea one can use.. though it's not Type-2 legal...

but then, illegal decks are always so much fun...

Combine Slate of Ancestry and Cryptic Gateway for all your army building needs!

Cryptic Gateway
5 Mana
"Tap two untapped creatures you control: You may put a creature card from your hand into play that shares a creature type with each creature tapped this way."

What does this mean? End turn abuse! This is especially good for elves, slivers, wizards.. anything really. I used it for Bird Soldiers myself.. but elves and slivers are the most effective. You can have one out by third turn at the soonest with elves, barring special spells and whatnot.

Slate of Ancestry
4 Mana
"4 Mana, tap, Discard your hand: Draw a card for each creature you control."

.... that's right folks... with this combo, end of turn abuse takes on whole new meanings. The only thing you might have to worry about is decking yourself, but a good player will make sure they aren't low on cards when using this. The key point to this, as many of you have already guessed, is dump your creatures into play, drop your hand to draw more cards, and drop more creatures. Your turn, untap, draw (or is it draw and untap? I'm always so confused) whittle your hand down to your standard handsize. Once your army is built, then go get im! Especially useful with a Coat of Arms... but then things just get painful.

Nothing says 'ouch' more than an army of squirrels lead by a Krovan Beast with Coat of Arms in play.

Yay elves! I'm kind of a green lover, especially in Planar Chaos. I've only been playing since Time Spiral though...

My favorite deck isn't that great, but it's amusing to play - Sunburst from Fifth dawn... pity I've only got the cards on Apprentice, but *shrug* I'm poor and cheap. I've been to a few prereleases and gotten appropriate 'One girl in 75 guys' stares. Still, it's basically how I met my bf, so I have to keep up to know what he's talking about *grins*

I do amuse myself by writing for the fandom eheh, though I wonder if a die-hard MtG canon person would tell me I'm an idiot. It's a fun world to play in though.

Heh, a girl AND a MtG player. You'll get some stares here on TFF, too.

Mind you, some of the toughest players here in Italy are girls, so I'm not underestimating you. ^_^

Me, I swear by goblins/red. Fight fire with fire... in fact, fight EVERYTHING with fire. There's no opponent that won't go away if you fry him or her badly enough. :snigger:

Go ahead, underestimate me XD it will make it all the easier to crush you, mwahaha.

...or not. Damien Wilacoth can tell you (if he ever decides to come out of Lurker status ;) ) I often can't keep my attention on the game and make ridiculous mistakes. (Like just discarding something with madness...*headdesk*)

That single line right there is the only reason anyone should ever need to love Jaya :yay: :hail: :yay: :hail: Not that the rest of her lines aren't gold too.

I also used to have thrull deck that pissed my friends off when we played. No idea how it would hold up today but most of my counter supply today exists cause I needed tons to play that deck.

"Yes, I think ætoast' is an appropriate description." ùJaya Ballard, Task Mage
Flavor text of Incinerate

Jaya is luv. She has a nice card too:
Jaya Ballard, Task Mage

It seems that the red cards get the best flavor text:

Mogg Fanatic

Rock Slide

I guess it's because goblins = funny. :snigger:

Girls are such a rare breed of MtG player. Always glad to have them at tournaments... because you know at least they've showered. :sisi:

Sigh, my place we only have a girl player, the rest are guys. That and the girl is the game place owner's gf (a very big no-no). So... :blue: :blue: :headbanger:

My first time at a prerelease, one of the judges did a massive double take on me and said "Wow! You're kind are getting more and more common at these events! Hell yeah!"

Ohhhhh my god, Jaya Ballard is my Hero XD. I bow to her flavor texts and am a proud salivator at her picture (who the hell isn't?!)

Personally I think it's cause Goblins=stupid=funny... but ya know ^_^ I might just dislike goblins. Stupid massacring *mutters*.

I have 4th edition cards laying about my place somewhere. Started back when I was 9-10, when a friend showed me his 'sweet cards.' Stopped for a long time, then started up again during onslaught block, then took another break til Kamigawa, and haven't stopped again.

Currently I have an rather large amount of decks, somewhere around 18 or so built and running. Almost all of them are standard legal, except for a few with kamigawa cards. My favorites at the moment are my b/r Jaya-madness deck, my u/r suspend deck (love Jhoira!), and my r/u storm deck.

2 capsize
4 counterspell
4 mana leak
2 dissipate
2 forbid

4 impulse
4 legacy's allure
4 sky diamond

4 man-o-war
4 ophidian
4 watersprout djinn
2 suq-ata firewalker

Found this old link. Sure brings back memories...

Sadly I know little of Tooth and Nail decks as I've never had the misfortune to play against one, at the moment I'm playing with a Dredgeatog deck and struggling with a Ghost Husk and a U/G control.
