So Grand Prix LA is tomorrow. Anyone from TFF going... besides me?

Nope! I am a filthy casual. Been playing pretty much continuously since Invasion/Mercadian Masques, but a Filthy Casual nonetheless :p. Good luck though! Win one for the Hivemind!

And now that I'm here, I wonder if any of you gents have suggestions for a Progenitus commander deck I'm thinking about building.

Fist of Suns
Mayael's Aria is a personal favorite as well, gain life and make progrenitus a two-hit killer.

I don't recommend using Progenitus. I'd rather use Child of Alara.

Although for Commander in general, I use Damia, Sage of Stone, Geist of Saint Traft, Marchesa, Tajic, and Grim-Grin.

hm, I do have a child of alara as well... In general, what would people suggest for a 5 color non-sliver commander?

That really depends on what kind of deck you want to make. What are you looking to make?

I don't know, I lean towards making aggro decks most of the time. I'm mostly a timmy if we're being honest, with a tendency towards big creatures and stuff like Coalition Victory or Helix Pinnacle. Having looked at the list NanuNanu graciously provided I'm sorta waffling between an elemental Horde of Notions deck (since I've got a regular one from Lorwyn) or a Scion of the Ur-dragon Dragon deck. Though, the possibility of one of the two 5 color Alara cards as a commander is still attractive.

I would recommend against going five colors. Deck building can get pretty wonky unless you know what your doing and planning your deck out.

If you want an aggro, deck I suggest using goblin tribal with Purphoros or Grenzo, Dungeon Warden as a commander and use lots of token spammers, like Krenko, Mob Boss, and things that give haste, like Hammer of Purphoros.

EDIT: Here is my EDH Damia deck. Take a look at it. Think about what you might want to do with your commander

I do know what I'm doing with 5 colors deck's, though admittedly never in this format before. I have about 3 different ones right now. I'll admit that they're in no way competitive stomp your face in decks, but I have fun playing them and I get 5 colors of mana in about 9/10 games.

The main reason that I want to try it in Commander is mostly sentiment. The very first deck I ever built (which still sorta exists in a much modified form) was a 5 color Invasion block legend deck that ran coalition victory. It tended to win with Tek and Draco, but it had CV in it damnit :p.

Given my general lack of experience with Commander perhaps the thread, and you in particular since you seem kind enough to reply regularly NanuNanu, can inform me on what Commanders CAN do. As far as my limited knowledge goes they serve one of two purposes, either as a giant bomb that the deck builds toward and serves as a climactic focus for your strategy, OR it's a utility card that enables and enhances your general strategy like Zirilan of the Claw in a red Dragon based deck. OR some mix of the two...

Your commander should enhance and compliment your decks strategy, without being an integral part of the strategy. I'd look at Sygg, River Guide as an example of that.

Regarding Coalition Victory, it's currently banned in EDH. It's just too easy to get a victory that way, like running Test of Endurance in an Oloro deck.

The closest thing to a crazy combination in my decks are Assemble the Legion, Cathar's Crusade, and Coat of Arms, for my Tajic token deck; and Rooftop Storm in my Grim-Grin deck, alongside Gravecrawler.

Surprised you didn't run Mardu Hordechief or Hateblade. Also, how many people were at your gameday?

Eight people, one of which was the store owner who only joined so no-one would get a bye.

Regarding the Hateblade, both Bloodsoaked Champion and Soldier of the Pantheon are superior one-drops, considering the amount of multi-color creatures being run, and I can bring Bloodsoaked Champion back after each of my combat steps.

The Hordechief is nice, but I would rather get out an Ascendancy or a Crackling Doom out instead.

Yeah, went to GPLA, and ran this deck. It was hilarious fun, I won at least one game during all my my matches, and made an Ascendancy combo deck very sad by playing his combo.

Profane Command was spoiled for the Black CMD deck, and now Wurmcoil Engine? If Cryptic Command is in the Blue deck, I'm going to shit a brick.

I think I'm going to get all 5 decks now.

I've been thinking that myself for awhile. Also, I am made quite happy that the Green 'walker is Freyalise and entertained that the Black
'Walker is pre-demon Ob-Nixilis. I'm also happy that Ajani's brother got a card, as well as Titania of Argoth and Feldon. Now, I'm just hoping that the white 'walker is Serra and possibly that the red one is Mishra? It's not terribly likely on the latter (as his spark never ignited) but I think we've got a real chance for the former!

Not sure if Mishra was ever a PW or had a spark. I'm hoping for White as Urza and Red as Jaya Ballard. God, I want Jaya Ballard so much.

Urza was blue though wasn't he? He was when he was the Blind Seer anyway... and I think it was confirmed somewhere at one point that Mishra had a spark but it didn't ignite. By the final fight where Urza became a 'walker Mishra was mostly dead, it was just his skin over a phyrexian style robot I think, sarcasm thank you Gix /sarcasm

It was confirmed that if you had a spark, you couldn't be corrupted.

...when was that? I mean, Urza was pretty hard core corrupted by the end of Apocalypse... Gerrard had to cut his head off to get him back on track!

...? Do you mean that 'walkers had to/have to Allow the corruption? Because the whole cutting off the head thing seems to indicate that there was bodily corruption going on. It might have been just a 'shock him out of things' moment, and it's been years since I read the book, but the vibe I recall was that he had Phyrexia in his body as well as his mind.

Also, Karn as Father of Machines, but Karn's a weird exception anyway so he doesn't really count anyway.

Karn is weird, since he's always had that corruption in him because of his core, and /then/ he gained Urza's transferred spark.

I always thought that Urza planned for all of that to happen, he just really needed to rescue Gerrard/get him out of Pherexia so that the Legacy Weapon could activate.
