Mass Effect 3

All right this is not a hype thread, I'm started to discuss the game ME 3. At the moment I'm more interested in likely opening scenarios, and potential Squadmates

Commander Shepard: After the events of 'Arrival' I imagine you will be 'Persona Non-Grata' in Council space. The Batarians are going to be calling for your head due to the deaths of 300,000 of their people. The Hanhar are going to want your head for destroying an Enkindler holy site (relay). The other races are going to be sacred of you and humanity for pulling that off.

Turian/Asari/Salarian: "Y'all a bunch of CRAZY Mothur Luvers!!"

I figure you've either been in prision for your 'crimes' or had to lay low to avoid retribution.

Cerberus: They suffered some sever setbacks after ME 2 so any help they can provide will likely be limited.

The Council will likely stay out of your way once the Reaper threat materizlies. Before that I imagine they'll be their usual self serving obstructionist selves.

The Alliances is too busy to provide much help so you're on your own there.

Thoughts....?

I suspect the game will be about trying to protect as many of the race worlds as possible. Sure, Earth is getting eaten and the Reapers have a special mad-on for humans now, but what about the other races? They aren't going to throw their entire species/army at Earth for the simple fact that there isn't enough for them here. Remember that the Collector vessel had space for a few million people.

So there will be... decisions. And the job is going to change you.

I would argue that humanity is a high priority target. We've gotten in their way three times now, and have killed two Reapers. We had the gall to destroy a mass relay, and killed their servants. They owe us a beat down at this point.

I think that stopping them at earth is going to be a big plot point, I mean we may have stopped them a couple of times, but we really haven't had enough time to actually develop any counter measures for the reapers, and considering how often reaper tech seems to screw us over, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there are a couple more gifts left for us in the citadel, hell I'm half convinced that the citadel has some sort of hidden indoctrination mechanism in it that has been screwing with peoples minds not in the normal way but in a more subtler way. And don't forget the Mass Relays were made by reapers as well, so there are any number of traps we haven't figured out yet.

I'd love to see the possibility of - if you spared them - ending up with a primarily Geth/Rachni/Krogan etc army, rather than human+asari etc. Possibly related to Op's post ("wow, this douchebag killed that many people AND he's in cahoots with the Geth AND Rachni? FUCK OFF) or maybe more of a DAO thing - you pick either Quarians or Geth, XYZ or Rachni, Turians or YZX, etc. Got rid of the Genophage? Salarians tell you to fuck off - but you have every fucking Krogan in the galaxy backing you up.

Alternatively, you just end up with all of them combined. I'm not sure what could be scarier than a krogan warhost combined with the full Geth armada, Rachni once they get a bit of time to regenerate, Turian fleets, Asari, humans...

Mostly I just want the Geth to be on our side for once. Legion was a great party member, but it'd be nice for them to just show up for the final battle and you finally get to fight alongside the dudes you've been killing for the last two games. Juggernauts on your side and shit.

Actually, that could be fucking great. The Paragon end, when you chose idealism over pragmatism, is the ENTIRE GODDAMN GALAXY showing up en masse.

To quote the "If You Were Commander Shepard" thread:

Battle of the Citadel: Round 2

Ascension Commander: It's an entire fleet of Reapers!
Turian Commander: Prepare for battle!
Salarian Commander: There's too many of them!
Human Commander: ****, they've boarded the Citadel!
Ascension Commander: We're getting another signal!
Human Commander: It's the Normandy!
Joker: Normandy here. What's your situation?
Turian Commander: We're getting overwhelmed!
Joker: I copy. Normandy to Ilos. We are legion, I repeat, we are legion.
(Relay opens. Geth and quarian ships begin pouring through.)
Admiral Gerrel: This is it, everyone. Focus fire on the Reapers. The geth will coordinate targeting. Keelah se'lai.
Geth: Keelah se'lai.

Captain Bailey: This is C-SEC! We're getting murdered out here! Wait a minute - what's the Relay Monument doing?
(Relay opens. Shepard emerges)
Anderson: Shepard! Thanks for coming.
Shepard: How many hostiles on the Citadel.
Anderson: At least ten million, going by C-SEC's estimates.
Shepard: ****.
Anderson: *puts on armor* We're going to need backup.
Shepard: Got it covered. *hits radio* Ilos Control. Sing the songs of war, I repeat, sing the songs of war.
(Relay opens)
Anderson: What was that?
Shepard: Backup.
(Rachni and krogan start pouring out of the Relay onto the Presidium.)

What would be an equally-badass Renegade ending, I wonder?

...

inb4 Shepard turns into a Reaper/takes command of the Reapers. Hey, crisis averted! Who cares if the savior of humanity is now a massive unfeeling eldritch god?

And thus the God-Emperor (Empress) of man is Born.

Edit: It appears, that Cerberus has turned on me...Thank you TIM, for giving me a reason, and an excellent gift for Jack on her Birthday.

Shepard: "Honey...I got you something speical" Steps aside you reveal a hogtied TIM.

Jack: Tears in her eyes "Shepard...you're the best!"

Wow. I am excited now. I mean, the dragon age "recruit some help" plot is kind of lame, but there's a lot of story elements I'm still interested in: Why is cerberus out to kill Shepard (Pretty sure it's some sort of deal with the reapers. Cerberus gives them Shepard, and the reapers let some humans live. The reapers really want shepard's dna in their next child).

I also really want to see the Thresher Maw attack the reaper.

Also, why is Renegade Shep even showing up to the trial?

Because wherever their are Batarians, Renegade Shep will show up to put a bullet between their four eyes.

Judge: "Commander, would you please stop killing the Batarian observers, we're running out."

R!Shepard: "Just one more" *Blam!*

I'm looking forward to this scene

Judge: "Commander Shepard, do you have any proof that these 'Reapers' exist?"

Harbinger: (crashing through the roof) "Sheeepaaard!"

Shepard: (calmly points up) "Allow me to present exhibit A"

Thresher Maws. Nature's Fuck You to Reapers. Yes, start an extinction cycle and life itself will evolve to create space faring territorial plant-worms of doom that spread via spores.

Well, we all knew we were going to have to kick TIM's ass at somepoint, if it wasn't because a Paragon Shepard wouldn't stand for his shit, it was going to be because TIM wouldn't want to hand over Cerberus to a Renagade Shepard.

Also, I'm really hoping that when the council calls to you to ask for help against the Reapers you get to say "Ahh, yes the Reapers." Complete with air quotes back in their face.

Oh God what did they do to Ashley's hair.á It's never looked good but now it looks awful.
Do you realy think that Ashley has a lot of expierence making her hair look good? It fits her character and that's good enough for me :p

Edit: on the plus side, you're currently better than the Bioware forums, where some fans have decided Ashley is a skank because her bust sized increased, and she had the audacity to show a little skin.

The slut...

I'm just wondering if the Nations of Earth are going to decide to say "FUCK IT." to the Council's laws about WMD and just nuke some of the Reapers with the weapons with the firepower needed to crack their shells.

Because in the end, we are petty, vengeful sore losers who ARE willing to burn ourselves to ashes to deny our enemies victory. Theoretically, Humanity should have enough nuclear firepower to make any victory on Earth a Pyrrhic victory for the Reapers. Sure, Earth would be lost, but the Reapers would likely have lost more of their own then they ever did for a single planet.

Remains to be seen if the nuclear option will be remembered.

Nuclear weapons are weaksauce. Remember that a dreads main gun puts out similar firepower every two seconds.

For one-shot bombs of mass destruction, the Citadel treaties ban matter/anti-matter reaction bombs. Much more destructive, and direct exposure to anti-matter will handily waste a Reaper.

A dreadnought's gun fires 38,5 kilotons per shot (that hits). Strategic nukes can dish out in the dozens of megatons, if not a hundred megaton (with an unrestrained Ivan/Tsar Bomba design).

Nukes are not "weak sauce". To give scale, a dreadnought can do 2 Hiroshima's (12-15 kt) per shot. A Castle Bravo device was 15 Megatons, the currently most powerful warhead in service in the US is a 9 megatons device.

Sure, anti-matter warheads are more efficient in their reaction, but Humanity should still have some righteous piles of nuclear ordinance in stockpiles in addition to anti-matter warheads.

And I believe you missed the last part of my wondering, that is the possibility of Humanity incinerating themselves to spite the Reapers. (We would totally do it if there was no hope of victory.)
