I own nothing, NOTHING. This is an expanded version of a story or snippet I wrote over on Spacebattles.... enjoy.

Humans are often portrayed as noble creatures with a kind ,forgiving, nature. To children that it. In truth...humans are mean, viscious spiteful creatures and we know it. Our history is full of examples of our nasty , spiteful nature. From Romans poisoning wells to the Nazi holocaust, it's in our nature. Which is why it comes as no surprise what certain elements of humanity did when the Reapers attacked Earth.

They knew they were doomed. Doomed to a fate worse than death. Sheppards last gamble may or not pay off. The Turians, Asari and Krogans had abndoned them in their hour of need to protect their own intrests. The Salarians and Battarians were little better. So in this last dark hour humanity decided to do what it did best.

The island was known. What was sleeping beneath it was known. A plan was put into motion. Not a last desperate gamble, like Sheppard was trying to execute, for victory. But a plan to make the Reapers regret ,ever, coming to this small blue planet on the edge of the galaxy. A plan to make the sweet taste of victory turn to ash in the mouth of this hated foe.

Because if humanity was to die this day, if what made humans , human was to be wiped out then they were going to show why you never backed a human into a corner and gave them no way out. If monsters were going to kill them then a monmster would be awoken to fight . Awakening it would doom humanity but they were dead anyway.

Let the Repaers and those whom had abandoned them learn of Earth's dark history. A history humanity had hidden from all including the Shadow Broker. So as the final battle for Earth raged and humanity died for their world a ceremony was completed on a small island in the Pacific. An island named R'lyeth.

Deep beneath the waves the sleeper awoke and saw the stars were right. As humanity died , it shrugged off the last vestiges of sleep and humanity had the last laugh in this cycle of destruction.

That is not dead which does sleeping lie and even after strange eons even death may die.

Mecha-Cthulhu meet original Cthulhu. That would be one hell of a battle.

Reapers would lose by default, if they're lucky. Cthulhu is a Sufficiently Advanced Alien.
The idea makes sense.
