Evangelion Memories of Distant Days

Long ago, the people of another world rose up. They cast terrible Idols to their glory, and remembered nothing of the Old Ones but tattered scraps, twisted in repugnant mockery.

And the Old Ones cast their wrath upon the people, and stuck down their temples of the self. The skies burned as Fire, and the earth shattered as Ice. Ten thousand souls and ten thousand times ten thousand fell screaming into the depths.

But the people kept on. They saw the power of the Old Ones, and tried to claim it as their own.

The Old Ones sent their servants into the world, and the people rose up with their Titans.

Children, clad in armor of the Old Ones flesh, forged in the fires of the peopleÆs pride.

And greatest among them was the Third Child, the child of the great lord of the people, the Courage of Man.

Listen now to the Story of Ikari Shinji, abandoned child of royal blood.

Of Ayanami Rei, the unborn mother of we who came after the fall.

Of Asuka Soryu, the icon of the peoples folly.

Hear the end of one world, and the beginning of our own.

The heat beat down on his shoulders like a great hammer. It was noon, in the height of summer, and the air hung thick and still. Around him, the city lay silent, dead. None walked the streets.

None but the Third Child.

Alone he stood, on ground abandoned by those of weaker soul, and stared up into the face of death.

The Servant Stood before him, as tall as the buildings of the great city, scraping the sky as it moved. Its face was a beaked mask, showing nothing. Around it flew wingless birds of metal, animated by manÆs will, and they hurled thunderbolts and lances of fire at the servant of the old ones.

It stood untouched, mocking the arts of man.

And the third child stared into the hollow eyes of the beast and knew fear. All the works of man stood against this thing, and were as nothing. In his heart, in his soul, he knew that there was no victory, no hope.

He stood there for an age, or a moment, for it ceased to matter. And for that eternity, the Third Child stared into the eyes of death.

In moments, a chariot of steel pulled to a halt between them, and from it stepped a woman.

And she stood between death and the child and smiled.

ôGet in.ö she said. And the Third Child did.

This started when I saw a picture of Shinji and Rei wearing the armor from the EVA preparing to shoot the gigantic rifle at the diamond angel.

It was done in a very stylized fashion, and got my thinking about myths.

So I thought, "What kind of Myths might grow around EVA?"

and thus this idea, Evangelion, retold in a purple prose, highly stylized form for a society of low technology.

In other words, the very basic outline of Eva, made deliberately over the top.

Sudden revelations, dramatic speeches, ironically appropriate deaths, Karmic vengeance, Blood and Eldrich Abomination Ichor, and a young man growing up to save "His" people.

And of course, Shinji Ikari, standing there in that ridiculous glossy purple armor, screaming defiance at a giant monstrous beast.

Thoughts?

I really like it. It would be very interesting to see how much info have been corrupted, and what stays the same.
