Yesterday a little idea for a Prototype crossover got in my head. I wrote a little snippet that I posted over SB, but I wanted to post it also here.
------------------
Manhatan was being destroyed by a battle of epic proportions, by a fight between two being that defied several physical laws. Again. Not even two momths after the outbreak.
It had to be some kind of record.
The two being fought each other relentlessly, demolishing newly reconstructed buildings in the surroundings. They didn't stop or recede, the streets broke under them and everything shook by the force of their strikes. Violent, destructive, unstoppable, apocaliphtic, legendary... those were the adjectives that would pass by the mind of anyone who could see it and tried to describe what they saw.
"Absolutely unnatural." Was usually for what they settled.
It was probbaly the one that fittest the most, for it seemed straight out of a videogame or from the stories in creepy corners of the internet. A battle of adaptation, mocking the natural way of the world, a battle of weaponized evolution, the fighters changing and shifting in the blink of an eye. A confrontation in which humans seemed to have no place.
A battle of Gods.
In the middle of the destruction and the chaos, surrounded by the forces of two of the most well hidden organizations of the world, a gargantuan reptile-thing and an anthropomorphic viral mass roared and charged against each other, yet again.
And no one was stupid ehough to stand in their way.
-------------------------------------------
But how things got like that? That's a good question.
--------------------------------
Blackwatch considered that it was good luck that no one else in the S.S Reagan had been infected by the medical error and the subsecuent infected loose in the command room.
But luck is a fickle thing.
It had been bad luck that one of the Blackwatch commanders had been infected and not discovered. It had been good luck that after losing himself the infection it had been killed with no extra deaths.
Oh, yes, the infected had accidentally smashed some buttons and send some of the better torpedos they had to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean before being tore open by bullets of other Blackwatch members. But a quick revision of the trayectory revealed a path free of obstale, so they would eventually explode against the oceanic floor or by the preassure.
Good luck indeed. Things were tense enough with ZEUS still alive and kicking, thought the new politic of ignoring each other until the infection was truly gone had managed to stop the constant and wide bleeding of personel and resources that was figthing the viral abomination. If they had hit Manhatan the possibility of ZEUS going actively after them, again, was pretty huge.
Fortunately they knew that officialy there was nothing in the torpedos way.

Standing in the top of an building, the Monster of Manhatan looked at the city in the dawn.
Before his eyes the city was recovering. After their failed attemp to glass his along with the city, his own infiltration on the ship to steal the nuke, and showing them that not even the burning hell unleased by the nuclear weapon could kill Alex Mercer, Blackwatch seemed to understand, finally, that he didn't want to kill everything and burn New York to ashes. They now seemed to stop trying to find of fight him, and just centered themselves in erradicating redlight from the island as fast and effectively they could.
Even if he had memories telling him that it was the normal, seeing Blackwatch opperate in a efficient and clean way had surprised him. He had even changed into one of the soldiers he had consumed at times, to help them with hives and such. He didn't like Blackwatch, but for once they were just helping.
Also he had more importat things to care about.
Like sister, his uncouncious-for-two-months sister.
After he had remade himself from the mass that survived the explosion (lets just say that Manhatan's stray dogs and cats had decreased in number, suddenly) Alex had gone to Ragland inmediatly.
But there have been no changes, the only sure thing was that Dana was not infected and Ragland had no idea of what Greene had done to his sister. At first he had lashed out, actively searching infectes and Blackwatch alike and destroying them, in a concious effort to reafirm his strenght.
He was bioengineered perfection, yet he felt useless when all his might couldn't defeat the only enemy he cared to destroy, whatever was hurting his sister.
Or he felt that way for a time.
Right now, waiting for his sister to walk out of the hospital, he felt invincible.
Just a month ago, in a frustrating conversation with Ragland, the doctor had told him in rather plain terms that if Alex hadn't eaten every scientific involved with Redlight, there could be someone who knew what was happening to Dana, or at least give new information.
At first he wished to murder the doctor for even insinuating that he was responsible for his sister not waking up. Then he stopped, and laughed.
Ragland later said that it was the creepiest thing he had ever seen.
The solution to the problem was so easy that, indeed, Alex could do nothing but to blame himself for not reaching it before. He then sat in Raglands office and asked him for several pens, and started writting the most complete book about the effects that the infection could cause without actually 'infecting'. Having the knowledge of a small army of specialist in his mass made it too easy. Not having realized this before made Mercer felt a bit stupid.
And now Dana was checking out of the hospital.
'There is nothing on the world capable of ruining this day'
----------------------------
The whole observation chamber shook and the doctors had to grab the table to not fall.
"The structural integrity of the contaiment chamber is bellow 50% percent! We need to stop the termination attempt! Dr. Sanders start depresurizing the chamber and pumping the acid in!" He yelled at his fellow coworker while he started to manipulate the machinary which controled the flow of the water and thus, the pressure, of the whole ocean over them.
"On it! But I don't think that it can do anything, I mean. He has kilometres of ocean over itself, the preassure has kept it inmovilized for three days already. I doubt it could..." He stopped talking as the relative simple process he had to perform was imposible. " I... I can't."
"Do it before the walls don't resist the internal preassure anymore!" He pushed Sanders out of the way and after pushing some buttons he stopped at what some of the cameras were showing him. "It has obstructed our depressuring mechanism with its tail! How!? There should be seven grates tailored specially for the purposse of not letting this happen!"
"I... may have deactivated them..." Sanders whispered at his side, scared shitless. "They made the process slower... I thought it would be better this way...!" He looked at the principal video feed and started to panic. "It couldn't move before! You saw it! I was supposed to be congratuled for optimicing the process!!!. I never...!"
Blocking Sander's useless excuses, he tried to manipulate the multiple security meassures of the chamber, mostly damaged by the previous explosions and cursed his bad luck.
Two torpedos coming from god knows where hitting the facilities as they were testing the possible destruction of the item with a combination of pressure, seawater and another item too much classified for him to know about, was so much of a improvability that it hadn't even taken into account for the security protocols. And now he discovered that his coworker was either stupid or suicide. Also said coworker didn't seem to know when to shup up.
Yeah, he was being so lucky today.
"... I'm no responsible for this! I didn't kn...!" Dr. Sanders continued rambling until he was punched by the other doctor, who was still trying to contain the thing.
"SHUT UP!!! You knew with which item are we dealing with! It always adapts!!! Always!!! Why do you think that it is still there after so many years trying to destroy it!? Because it always adapts!!! It had adapted to high pressure!! And now...!!!"
His rant was cut off by the sound of wall breaking and the video feed confirmed his suspicions as the walls of the chamber exploded outwards. Then it moved its legs for first time in days, and looked at the cameras directly.
It was smilling.
Then it devoured the camera. What wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't been that the gps signal marked that it was leaving the place.
Dr. Avon after having tryed to stop it from happening by all the means available to him felt like joining Sanders in crying. Taking out his communications device he tuned it to the emergency frequency and talked as calmly as he could.
"... has breached containment. I repeat the item SCP-682 had breached containment. Alert to all the mobile task forces, we have got a keter on the loose."
Now he could only pray that it didn't went to anywhere inhabitated, and maybe, just maybe, the O5 would have mercy on him.
