Miscellaneous game fanfic ideas

OK, I'll lay down here some ideas I had.

1) Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - alternate pairings.

We see plenty of Nel/Albel or Fayt/Albel... so how about unusual pairings? A few ideas include Fayt/Clair, Fayt/Tynave, Fayt/Farleen, Fayt/Mirage, Cliff/Sophia, Cliff/Maria.

Or, if you want to go the crack pairing route... Fayt/Queen Aquaria. Now THAT one I wouldn't mind seeing. If anyone could actually pull a Fayt/Queen Aquaria pairing convincingly, they'd be Gods.

2) Suikoden III - Geddoe/Chris. Just a thought that came to my mind. Both are fairly reclusive in their own way. Perhaps they could find common ground in their being True Rune bearers?

3) Fire Emblem - Hector/Vaida. Somehow, I think those two complement each other perfectly. They're both brash, reckless and tend to be scary if angered. Imagine their kids...

That's it for now...

Oh god, what I wouldn't give for a story with this, hell I'd kill for any original pairings for Star Ocean, there's so many characters and opportunities and yet no one seems to want to go out of cannon! Why? Be original people, exercise your writing talents by trying to write a pairing that isn't all ready set up for you! Put some effort into actually developing a relationship and emotions between to characters who would be otherwise ambivalent towards each other. Any author can write about a relationship that is all ready made for them but it's the mark of true creativity when an author can make a relationship out of nothing. On a side note, I'm shooting for a Fayt/Mirage ending in my game.

I fully agree. People tend to stick with canon and never try to unleash their creativity. There are precious few exceptions out there (our good friend Hawk being one), and even fewer of them are even worth the time.

It's a waste, really. Games like Star Ocean, Suikoden, Fire Emblem, Tactics Ogre and Tales of Symphonia have a huge potential for unusual pairings (has anyone seen a Hugo/Cecile fic or even a fic starring Tynave and Farleen as love interests? Thought so), but they're rarely used.

Hell, even some anime, such as Negima, have potential for crack pairings. How about Negi/Chachamaru? But nooo, its mostly Konoka, Asuna and Nodoka, with some Evangeline on the side.

Oh don't even get me started on Negima, that is one of the biggest let downs I've ever seen the fanfiction community make, I mean here you have this awesome anime that has ONE romantically-viable male character and thirty some-odd girls, all with different personalities and most with little to no character development, giving you a clean slate to work with. Animes like Negima are gold mines for people like Hawk, there are just so many options and girls to pick from that I think the only thing holding it back is that One) the leading male is a 10 yr old and Two) It's not very well know yet (compared to Eva or Love Hina). The age thing can easily be worked around in a variety of ways so really it just needs to gain a bit more popularity and people need to get off their butts (oh wait...scratch that, reverse it) and actually put some effort into putting some of the more obscure characters in a pairing, y'know what I would do to see a pairing like oh, Negi/Zazie Rainyday. If someone would do one, just one, pairing like that I think it would spur people to try them at least a little bit more. So please people, if anyone has any ideas for a pairing like that than don't hold back! Who cares what the general populace thinks, we, the silent minority, will be forever thankful to you for it.

Well, for SO3 a Fayt/Aquaria pairing isn't THAT impossible. I have a couple ideas on how it could work. Basically, here's the gist of it:

Aquaria is single (either she never married or she's a widow), and it doesn't appear she has any offspring. She's definitely older than any other woman in the game, except perhaps a couple of the inventors, but still looks to be at an age where having children wouldn't be impossible.

Now, the logical choice to ensure the Queendom's wellbeing would be to have her marry and have an offspring, but of course, whoever marries her had BETTER be a strong, dependable person who'll protect her should things go wrong.

Now, while she doesn't show much emotion at all towards anyone, Fayt DID protect her from the Dragoon Brigade rebels' attack on the way to Surferio and the Mosel ruins. What if... Fayt had gotten injured to shield her? Such an act should at least elicit some sort of response even from a calm, controlled person like Aquaria.

From there, it's all a matter of developing feelings on her behalf, as well as Fayt's (Aquaria may be a queen, but even at her age, she's quite beautiful). Hell, seeing how Fayt proves to be dependable, I wouldn't be surprised if Lasselle himself (The queen's aide) suggested him as a viable husband. Lasselle is concerned first and foremost about the wellbeing of the Queen, and I'm convinced he'd approve of such an union.

This is just a rough idea. I'm not too good at romance, but if no one else gives it a spin, I might try.

Regarding Negima, this isn't the right section to discuss it, but given how Chachamaru has started to develop human feelings of affection towards Negi in the manga, I don't see how a Negi/Chachamaru pairing wouldn't work. Hell, it'd probably be the one most likely to work - being an android, Chachamaru wouldn't be overly concerned by the lack of physical affection in a relationship with the still-young Negi, and who knows... such a fic might include their search of a way for her to become 'human'.

Hmm, I might just try that story, I've got a few ideas on how I could write that. And on Negima I just finished watching the anime (downloaded it off BitTorrent) and from the last four episodes the Negi/Yue pairing is much more doable as Yue literally declared her love for Negi after forcefully kissing him right in front of Nodoka.

If you mean my SO3 Fayt/Aquaria story idea, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD let me know when you write/publish it. I'll be your number one fan.

Heh, I might actually do that as soon as I can get a storyline worked out in my head but don't expect anything anytime soon. But I think I've got some pretty viable ways to do it so it's possible.

Well I already gave you a general outline of a possible plot, and really don't mind if you take it and work on it. I can tell you're good, and will gladly read and support a Fayt/Aquaria fic.

Wow, really? Well thank you, considering the only things I've posted on here have been a VERY rough first bit of my Naruto fic and a self-indulgent Texhnolyze fic which I doubt anybody on here has even heard of (heard of the actual series that is) much less bothered to read my one-shot for it. Well thank you for your confidence in me.

Meh, you need to believe in yourself. All you need is to polish your style, and you'll be a solid fic writer.

Oh, there's no denying that. That's why I value reviews and feedback so much. Makes me feel I'm doing SOMETHING right.

Yah, before you got on I had the first chappy of one of my HP fics posted up (it was later taken down for major revision when I realized it was crap) and it had been posted on ff.net for awhile and while it did get 10 reviews most of them seemed to just be written by stupid teenage fangirl types and consisted of stuff like "dude yu bettr conitnue this cuz I lik it". Nice, but not exactly very inspiring for me as an author. Meh, but that's now been taken down as well for, as I said earlier, major revisions.

Ugh, I hate n00bsp34k reviews. They make my skin crawl. I don't really care for senseless prattle, actually - I want to know what I am doing right - or wrong.

I don't mind compliments, I'd be stupid if I did, but there's no way my fic is perfect, an I'm always open (in fact, encourage) to constructive criticism. One cannot better himself unless his flaws are pointed out to him.

Problem is, the average fanfic reader's IQ and grammatical skill lately seem to be in a downward spiral whose bottom is nowhere in sight. Instead of constructive criticism, one gets stuff like "d00d ur fix suk make it nartuo sasuek!1!1111111SHIFT+1ONE". That kind of 'criticism' not only is useless to me, it pisses me off. I make it abundantly clear in my profile and early chapters that my goddamn fic is INO CENTRIC. If you don't like it, then don't fucking read. Period.

I know, I swear some people purposely read fics they don't like just so they can flame them, I have only ever seen one story where I really felt a flame was necessary (it was that bad) maybe two if I'm stretching it, but regardless I have never left a review and thus wasn't going to start there. Most stories are at least salvageble if the author put some work in so I see no need to flame. Bad grammar and misspellings make me twitch, they annoy me that badly, I'm really anal retentive about my spelling and grammar.

I only flamed ONCE in my ff.net stint. The story, if you can call it that, was THAT BAD.

Pertinent link:

WARNING. This fic is THAT DAMN BAD. It's hideous. It'll make you sick. It takes grammar, rapes it in the ass without vaseline and then stabs it with a rusty dull knife.

You have been warned.

Read my review for fun, if you like. I was really caustic there.

*reads story* Oh God my eyes my eyes!!!! Ahhhhhh I can feel my soul trying to escape from my body in revulsion, I think my eyes are going on strike and my brain is recoiling in horror from my spinal column to stop me going anywhere near anything like that ever again! *goes into increasingly frantic seizures until I snap my neck and every joint in my spine and die with a smile on my face at finally being able to escape from that horrible story*

...to everyone besides me and GH, yes it was that bad.

Wait... that was an actual story? I couldn't even decipher it; I thought it was in some sort of retarded caveman language.

Actually, I can't really call your review a 'flame' it's just a critical review of a horrible bit of fiction (can that really be called fiction?). Flames are mindless hate mail, yours was not. *shrug*

I think that if my response didn't give you an idea of just how bad it was then you're completely beyond help and need to be written off as an incurable case. The fic I mentioned earlier that was the worst fic I ever read had a total of one sentence in the first chapter (the subsequent two had seven and twelve sentences).

This opens a question... if badfics reduce your IQ points, do badfic PARODIES (almost exactly like badfics, only making fun of them) do the same?

Nah, parodies at least make you laugh. Actual badfics just make you want to die.

Two more videogame fanfic ideas:

-Street Fighter: Ryu/Karin. What if Karin decides that in order to best Sakura, it'd be wise to train under the same man she looks up to?

-Final Fantasy VII: Yuffie/Reno/Rude/Elena. After the game's end, Yuffie runs in the Turks, and eventually joins them in their wanderings. Enter the Neo Turks!

Meh, I'm not a fan of Street Fighter and I hate FFVII with a passion, FFVIII will always be better because Squall kicks ass, I've actually cosplayed as him at a few Cons.
