What are your thoughts on all the changes? Anyone in the beta?

A friend decided to make a monk within the first hour.

At one point, during a mount quest that appears early on, he saw this:

ALL of those gyrocopters are player characters.

Yeah, that looks about right.

For anyone who is coming back to WoW to check out Mists of Pandaria, there are a few small changes that are of note, largely about Professions:

1) You do NOT need certain items for professions anymore. Specifically, you no longer need the Mining Pick, Skinning Knife, Blacksmith Hammer or Fishing Pole to perform actions relating to them, but you now gain bonuses from having them. +10 to mining if you have a Pick, +10 skinning if you have a skinning knife.

Most notable is the Enchanters. You no longer need anything higher than a runed copper rod. Your higher tier enchanting rods will still work, but you won't have to upgrade any further.

You do still need a fishing pole if you want to get a buff to your fishing or need to, say, apply an unique lure to finish a fishing daily.

2) Speaking of enchanters, they can now upgrade or downgrade dusts and glows, but only the Mists of Pandaria ones (for now). Downgrading comes at a cost and produces less than upgrading, though. But since you can always find a shitton of lower level gear to DE, I have no idea why you'd want to be able to downgrade dusts/glows.

3) Jewelcrafters and Engineers can both make mounts that can be sold to others. (I'll have to check to see if BoP has been removed from a lot of the other useful things JCs make, like trinkets)

4) There are now going to drops called Motes of Harmony that can be combined into Spirits of Harmony. EVERY profession can use these to trade for something, whether it's more tokens to buy more recipes, as currency for reagents, used in a crafting recipe itself, or used to be another daily quest that you can turn in for your particular profession.

5) Cooking is going to split into six paths, and the foods from them will directly affect a particular stat. Some will have overlap, but will always provide a bonus related to them.

Your cooking skill will rise to match the highest level one, so if you don't want to focus on anything but stamina foods for your tanking warrior, you won't have to worry about upping intellect foods to max your cooking skill. Certain types of foods will now be more strongly related to certain stat boosting.

Green Tea Leaves, for example, are going to be better for intellect and spirit and PROBABLY won't be that useful for any strength-boosting foods.

it's weird how all the professions are nice and easy to level now except cooking which has become a godawful 6-headed monstrosity that requires thousands of vegetables.

at least farming is fun.

So, just figured I would throw in some kind of update. I decided to go tank for this expansion, and what an expansion it's been.

I'm currently sitting at 488 ilvl, and tanking has been a blast. Vengeance, in particular, is rather hilarious. My gear is high enough that I can do about 60k dps single target sustained in heroics, while taking no damage via shield barrier.
My guild and I have started "Ironmanning" heroics with me, a spriest, a mage, a lock, and a fDK. We can clear most dungeons in about as long as it takes to physically run from the start of the instance to the end.

Vengeance nerf incoming, I presume.

Also, I got and won the shiny elegon mount. In case you don't know what it looks like... it's literally Elegon with a saddle.

All in all, it's been a damn good expansion to me. Hope you guys are having good fun.

Fun little story. My guild doesn't run MV anymore, since none of us need gear from it- so I tend to pug MV so I can grab some pieces for my dps set.

So I get into another guild's run as a 479 arms warrior. The aren't aware that I'm actually mainspec 490 prot. The guild had never downed elegon, and we started making attempts. So I slide some hints in here and there, correct a few incorrect assumptions they had, particularly about orb phase, pillar phase, and the following adds. Not being rude about it or anything, wasn't even interrupting in vent, I was throwing them in as alternate ways to do things in raid chat.

Apparently I was pissing off a healer who tended to explain fights, so I get told, somewhat angrily over vent, "Warrior, stop talking, you don't know how Elegon works."

Keep in mind, I very blatantly have normal mode Starshatter on my back. So I'm laughing pretty hard.

The vent explodes, saying things like "That's really rude, he can hear you!" and such.

And then the druid tank chimes in. She says, real quiet, "I'm pretty sure he's that tank on the server with elegon's mount."

"...Oh." says the healer.

I fucking lost it laughing. 'Oh,' indeed.

Hmm... can't tell if you're saying I was hurting the healer's epeen, or that I'm bragging. If the former, well, yes. If the latter, that's not the point.

Probably not needed for the regulars wow players, but I'm posting this for anyone who's struggling to get Tillers reputation or Order of the Cloud Serpent reputation, there are alternate ways aside from the standard random daily quests.

Namely: Dark Soil for the Tillers, and the Onyx Egg for Order of the Cloud Serpent.

Something to note for both: You can't create a macro to find either one and they don't give off sparkles to indicate they're there. You have to search for them with your eyes (at least until someone creates a program to find them anyway).

Onyx Eggs are REALLY hard to find, but give 525 rep per turn in (550 if you've got the guild bonus), while Dark Soil will produce 1 of 5 different types of treasures that can be turned into various Tillers for bonus rep (540 rep with most people, 900 with the people mentioned in its respective description). But you can't even interact with Dark Soil until you hit level 90.

Unlike the Onyx Eggs, Dark Soil is a lot more available and you'll find it in more zones, but generally speaking, you'll find most in the Heartland in Valley of the Four Winds.

One method I would suggest, if you're really into getting max reputation, would be to fly high enough over the Heartland so that you're seeing a good amount of the area, but close enough to the ground that you see enemies and npcs. Dark Soil doesn't spawn in areas of water, but check the lanes between water-based crops, as sometimes Dark Soil will pop up there.

I'd also strongly suggest holding onto them and waiting until you can't simply give them food to boost reputation. Once they reach that point, they'll start having random daily quests which you can do. Once they become Good Friends (level 5 of 6), most have a quest chain open up that should ease the last leg of your reputation runs with them.

For Chee Chee and Tina Mudclaw (do not confuse Tina Mudclaw for GINA Mudclaw), these quests pushed me straight from Good Friends to Best Friends, but I'm rep grinding on a human, so it's a bit easier for me. ;P

Once you hit Exalted with the Tillers, you can ask any of the ones you've become Best Friends with to come visit your farm, but only one a day. There's no real benefit to this, other than making it easier to turn a quest or check with Jogu.

BTW, anyone struggling with getting good turnouts with farming, you want to up rep with Jogu. He'll tell you what will grow best the next day, though sometimes he'll be rather cryptic about it. His prices for these predictions start steep if you're a stranger, but are free if you're best friends with him. Quick Edit: His predictions apply for EVERYONE. so if you have a guildie who's got good rep with him, you can just get that info from them and hold off on the drunken fishman.

You might also want to visit the Darkmoon Faire while it's open before doing any turn-ins, since the new Carousel will boost reputation bonuses by 10%. If coupled with the 10% you'll get from a guild, you're making it quite a bit easier on yourself by doing so.

Oh, one more update: The Darkmoon Faire is now selling Hierlooms and special Tier 0 Replica gear to make it easier to find the parts you want if you're looking to Transmog.

Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai is actually really profitable for dark soil- no one ever farms dark soil there, so it's EVERYWHERE.

And for onyx eggs, the addon Gatherer, preloaded with data, can show you each of the spawns precisely.

@Shirotsume: Know of any threads to help with handling Gatherer? I have no idea of if it's even working most of the time and when I AM sure it's working, it's doing something weird that I don't like (like spread an orange spraypaint-like mess on my screen)

----

Also, for anyone returning, COMMENDATIONS! :cumdrool:

If you're one of those people who wants the goodies that various factions offer various professions, but HATES to rep grind, Commendations are going to fix a lot of things for you, at least as far as Pandaria factions go.

While you still need to rep grind up to Revered with 10 of the MoP factions, you can then purchase a Grand Commendation, which increases ALL rep bonuses with that faction by 100%.

This affects ALL of your characters on your account. That's right, ACCOUNT, not just server, but ACCOUNT.

Case in point, the Order of the Cloud Serpent? It took me about 20 or so days of dailies to get through to Exalted on my human paladin, who is in a Level 25 guild. The only one I didn't do during the entire thing was the Archaeology daily because my Paly didn't have it high enough for Pandaria.

My BE Death Knight, also in a level 25 guild, just did the start up quests, and two sets of dailies (minus the archaeology and the first aid), and is currently at 9610 rep into Revered. With a little more effort, she should be exalted by tomorrow.

Been a few days, so I don't feel bad about double posting:

Aside from purchased ones and a few others, most Battle Pets have multiple potential builds. They either gain a LOT in one specific stat (health, speed, power, or balanced); some in one or two; or are balanced pets.

Considering these hidden builds are more important than anything, now that you can upgrade a pet's rarity with Battle Stones.

So, if you're serious about getting a leg up on Pet Battling, this addon Pet Breed ID and this guide might be very helpful to you.

Some tips for those who are struggling with pet battles:

Some Aquatic pets (like Fishy) get Cleansing Rain, which heals all party members for the first round it's active, and helps Aquatic pets deal most damage.
The Black Lamb also has a full party heal.

The Onyxian Whelpling, as well as Lil'Onyxia, the Corefire Imp, and a few others get a self-heal that restores an amount of health, plus half of the last hit taken; which is quite useful at negating some of the damage flung by heavy-hitters.

If you're looking to neutralize the advantage of the self-heal, you can use multiple-hit attacks, such as Flurry, Nut Barrage, Swarm or Stampede; the two lattermost also breaking their defense.

To counter Flurry, Nut Barrage, Swarm, Stampede and other similar abilities, there are counters like Immolate, which throw back damage every time the user is hit.

Pets with lots of DoT damage, like the Jade Oozling, can put out a frightening amount of damage against the unwary.

I'd strongly recommend trying to get a Terrible Turnip, as frustrating as it might be, as it has "Weakening Blow", which can harm, but never defeat, an enemy by itself. You can use this to tear down an enemy for capture, or use it to power level weaker pets by beating the enemy down, then having the turnip suicide, and leave the pet you want to level to do the last point of damage for the match, thus claiming a ridiculous amount of XP.

To anyone who leveling a Priest or another class with shields, I wanted to share a weird quirk I found in this quest, which might apply to other quests.

Basically, I had a non-controllable NPC companion, General Nazgrim, and was tasked to kill 8 stealthed Alliance Intruders. My normal rotation is to start with Power Word: Pain and then Power Word: Shield myself.

To make a long story short, if I didn't take damage from the enemy, Nazgrim just shifted from standing around to battle ready, and did basically jackshit until I took actual damage. Any damage to my shield didn't count, so Nazgrim didn't act.

Weird, I know, and probably not TOO important, but just a small heads up.

Ugh, what I want is an addon that tells me what breed id a pet has, and if it has the best one for that pet. I go around hunting rares, then when I do find one, I have to look and see of it's the best one, or just a worthless rare.

For anyone playing a Priest, I STRONGLY suggest you retrain yourself for Shadow again when entering Pandaria, and that you make sure to take the third level talent "Mindbender" to give your Shadow Fiend an upgrade.

Survivability was the name of the game in Cataclysm, which Discipline does insanely well; but heavy DPS is the name of the game in Pandaria, and Shadow Priest has it in spades.

While Discipline can heal and damage, I was chugging mana restoratives every other fight, or every fight if I accidentally pulled more than one foe. Even using Shadow Fiend and Divine Hymn, I was constantly running low when it came to mana.

With Shadow Spec, the only times I was running low on mana was when I was also getting assaulted by more than 3 foes. So long as you keep using Vampiric Touch, your only concern will be your health. I didn't even need to use Divine Hymn, Mindbender or even mana-restoratives to get back mana, I was getting back more than enough to keep pulling out any and all of my spells when I needed them.

Unfortunately a lot of the various tricks for some of the dailies have been removed such as the tillers chicken quest having the ability to just click off the debuff to let you grab another chicken without following the normal directions for a wrong chicken.

However, others are still useful. Such as if you haven't finished collecting the 3 crane spirits during the August Celestials dailies for Red Crane by the time you have the other two for that step done, fly low and you can catch them easily while not needing to deal with the students.

Okay. So, I ran Molten Core with a friend on Saturday, he was on his level Night Elf 90 Hunter and I was on my level 55 Gnome mage (we were just checking to see if it was possible, but also, I was a spare set of backpacks). He was largely looking for Transmog gear, namely one of the bows that drop there, but the money from the run is always nice as well.

When Ragnaros fell, he dropped The Eye of Sulfuras, which is a reagent for Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. Awesome, but also rage-inducing since neither of us had any use for it. But it's a legendary item nonetheless, and crafting it will definitely be beneficial for our guild.

Unfortunately, most of the mats come from Molten Core and are stupid expensive on the auction house.

Plus, the only character I know of that can smelt Dark Iron bars is my Level 90 HORDE Death Knight, but running MC on her would be a breeze and I figured I could probably get a good portion of the mats for the Sulfuron Hammer.

So, I run MC on my Death Knight. I kill Ragnaros. He dropped ANOTHER The Eye of Sulfuras. Considering it has a 4% drop rate, that is QUITE rare.

I've decided to run MC until I have the mats for TWO Sulfuron Hammers: one to sell via goblin AH to my mage to make her Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros; and one for my DK.

It's been a while, so I thought I might post an update for my Hammers.

Namely, I have virtually everything except three key components.

The first is the Blood of the Mountain. I have 9, but I need a total of 20. The ones I found on the auction house have been stupid expensive, and it seems to only really drop off Molten Destroyers.

The second are Arcane Crystals, which wouldn't be nearly as obnoxious if I didn't need another ~40 for the Arcanite bars needed for the second hammer (and getting the first ~60 was a pain in the virtual wallet). I could swear that it was possible to prospect arcane crystals before, but apparently you can only get them randomly as an extra when mining thorium veins.

And lastly, I also need 4 more Sulfuron Ingots before I have all 16 needed to make the two hammers, which will be a laugh since I'm closing in on having 7 level 90 characters.

Molten Core's gonna get raped tonight. :evil2:

Thought I'd post a few things I've learned.

1) Molten Core and AQ40's base level requirement is 55. AQ20's is 60.

2) There's a free pet you can get from Darkmoon Faire that you might never get without a guide:
- First, visit Blackrock Depths and go to the Grim Guzzler.
- Get AT LEAST 2 Dark Iron Ales. Get a spare if you're concerned about screwing up the next part.
- Go to the Darkmoon Faire and find Morja.
- Throw a Dark Iron Ale at her feet.
- After a minute or so, a small frog named Jubjub will jump over to the mug. Morja will now have a quest available called "Spawn of Jubjub", where she will ask for another Dark Iron Ale.
- Give Morja the second Ale and you'll receive an egg named "Unhatched Jubling Egg", which has a 7 day timer. Once those 7 days are up, you can open the egg to get the pet.

3) For those at max level who are having trouble finding mobs to farm for the Love Is In The Air event, the Molten Front is an excellent spot.

4) There is a reason to grind up rep with the individual Tillers: Once you're max reputation with everyone in the Tillers, hunt down the Enormous Cattail Grouper, which will drop An Old Map, which starts a quest chain. The chest at the end contain a blue item as well as a sack contain one of each of the high-end gems. You also get an achievement.

5) Pet Battling CAN be worth it. If you complete the "I Choose You" achievement, you will be mailed 3000 gold (only once and it's an account-based achievement, but still, 3000 gold is 3000 gold).
