Gonna toss out some recommendations based on a number of fanfics I've read recently:
The Moon, The Flower and The Door. Princess Luna is looking to take on an apprentice. However, almost every applicant has failed her test. Almost every applicant.
I rank it a 8.5/10.
One Heck Of A Case.
Twilight wakes up to find that somepony needs her to make a ruling on a rather serious verbal agreement.
The case is actually based on an infamous Greek tale and I do have to agree with some of the points the author makes. 9/10
Red Apples. (borrowed from the synopsis)
Nightmare Moon is defeated, Ponyville is celebrating the return of the sun and Princess Luna finds herself a thousand years from the world she knew, where even apples are strange.
A short reflective tale on how things could change in a thousand years and how hard it would be to accept that. I enjoyed it. 9/10
Would It Matter If I Was (borrowed from the synopsis)
In the wake of the Canterlot Wedding, Fluttershy has to ask Twilight a very difficult question.
One of few cases where I'll flatout ruin the twist of a story to discuss it: Fluttershy insinuates that she's a changeling to see how Twilight would react if she was one, but then reveals she isn't a changeling, but rather testing Twilight's morality.
Mind you, the Fluttershy in this story does this morality test the day after the Wedding and in a manner that isn't befitting Fluttershy's personality, which would make me, in Twilight's place, do a thorough investigation to make sure it WAS Fluttershy.
As a thought exercise, I kind of enjoy the concept of one of the Mane 6 not being what they appear, but I don't like how one-sided the argument is in this story. As other readers point out, Fluttershy's basically doing a poorly timed and poorly informed rant about prejudices, followed by a "drop the mic and leave" moment at the end.
I've been sorely tempted to write a follow up reponse to this story.
Overall, though, I'd rate this as a 4/10
