Moderation/Administration Nominations

Hmm, I don't want to be a mod, but perhaps we should give people were were nominated but not confirmed a second chance to accept/decline clearly? Some might just not be aware they are eligible.

If the nomination was done properly, the user in question should have received a PM about the tagging. Its how I came to know of my own entry.

-sigh-

Some may see this as a tactic by me to 'reduce' the number of 'competitors', but I'm not in favor of extending the date. The entire process has gone on for too long anyway.

Besides, if we're talking about date extensions, what about the rules vote? I was away for the week around Easter and when I returned, everything appeared to be said and done.

[sarcasm ON]
I DEMAND a repeat of that entire process, bothering everyone and spitting on the face of those who participated within the mentioned deadlines so that I can cast my vote.
[sarcasm OFF]

I think the mods and admins are pretty good for right now myself.

I'd like to ask that we start fixing up the subforums a bit if possible.

I'd rather not be an Admin, thank you.

If you wanna be cautious then you could send a PM to everyone to everyone who's been nominated but hasn't confirmed their placement. Then they can swing in to either accept or decline. Simply not confirming their nominations leaves it vague as to whether they're refusing or are ignorant of their nominations for whatever reason.

For the record, despite the warm and fuzzy feelings having multiple nominations gives me, I'll have to decline.

There aren't the admins and mods, they're the choices we can vote for.

There will be no extensions, and no PMs sent out- everyone already received a PM when nominated.

Voting will start soon.

It is not clear to me what is needed from here? I mean, I have been operating under the assumption that once I was nominated + seconded, that was confirmation???

If you had been the one to nominate yourself, a second would have done so. However since I nominated you and PCHeintz seconded, even if he did imply he asked you, instead of you confirming it lead to the confusion.

"Please note- for a nomination to go through to vote, the nominee must have either nominated them self and had it seconded by one other person, or have been nominated by one other person and confirmed it. This is just to make sure we don't have a large number of pointless options for moderation."

This is hardly vague or weird at all. Nominate self and get seconded, or get nominated and you confirm it.

Someone nominating you and someone seconding that is pointless, and I explicitly said not to do that because it clutters up the thread and confuses people.

Now see I read this as someone else could nominate you, and then another someone else could confirm it... and looking at the rest of the thread, other people's behavior reflects that same interpretation? Or rather, maybe it's confirmation bias on my part, but that's the way I understood this whole thing going down.

I thought the PM was just a way to notify people so they could "opt out" once they were nominated.

Well, it's not a super-big deal, since there's still more rounds of voting.

That's why I wanted to give everyone who was nominated but not confirmed a second chance to accept or decline their nomination. I misunderstood the instructions as well, and looking through the thread it seems that so did quite a few other people.

I understand you are tired of waiting and waiting to get this done but it kind of sucks for those potential mods who made an honest mistake about the instructions.

Gonna be honest here, I don't know what you're wanting from me. A redo or an extension is out of the question. Not to be a dick, but it's your fault for not asking questions... or vastly more importantly, reading the answers when people DID ask those questions. It was explained multiple times, in multiple ways, by multiple people, exactly how things worked, and the few people in this thread that messed up went back and fixed things.

I don't want to announce that if you can't even bother reading the thread outlining how nominations work, you shouldn't mod or admin. But really, frankly, that's my feeling. I've been railing on people for three weeks straight to go through these threads. There's an announcement at the top of every single screen on this site. These exact questions were COVERED.

I recognize that's unfair, though, so it's not actually a requirement, as much as I would love it to be.

Regardless, if you found the instructions vague, or didn't understand them, or thought they were worded funny... bring it up. You know, BEFORE nominations end. I can't read your mind and know that you didn't understand it. I'm also pretty sure I've said that exact sentence at least twice before, so come on, work with me a little.

Regarding waiting and waiting to get this done... I'm hitting finals. Soon. if we don't do this on the timetable layed out, you're going to be adminless until mid May, when I have the time again. At the very LEAST the admins need picked before the 24th (preferable by the 21st, so my studying isn't screwed, because RL>TFF), so I can hand this thing off to them to finish.

I agree with Shiro.

If you can't follow simple directions and outlines when you aren't in power, how can we even begin to think you would once you are in it?

How do we know you won't just ignore what we have agreed on these past weeks and follow through?

We don't.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I've doing. I thought I understood, but then I discovered I didn't, so I asked.

I'm not putting this on you by saying the directions are unclear, or whatever. No matter what, 50% of the blame is on me for not understanding.

Yeah, we're moving really fast, but on the other hand, that also means things are moving, which is a good thing? That means everything is getting stitched up. Sincere props to you for making that happen.

But please keep in mind that between me posting without reading where you answered why I was wrong--the difference there is 8 hours, during a workday that ran long for me; and then today I was busy.

So I don't want to complain about going fast, when going fast means a lot is getting accomplished. But I would like to ask for some patience when the asynchronous nature of forum communication gets frustrating.

I'm not mad, I'm not accusing anybody of anything.

tl;dr
daniel_gudman accepts his nominations!
At the same time he shows off a Critical Failure on his Critical Reading Skill, which is perhaps not the most flattering coincidence in the history of space.

Just throwing this idea out there. Give everyone who was nominated but not confirmed until the end of the first mod election to confirm their nomination in this thread. Those that do so can be added to the poll for the second and third round of mod voting. That way they still get a chance and no votes have to be redone or additional extensions have to be given. Does that sound reasonable?
