This Rebekah person was given a week to convince me she wasn't a spambot. They wound up with two out of pity, and failed to reappear, so they and their Disney seeking good survey takers thread are now gone.
Legit shocked we never saw this. kcourtkat had an avatar that is too large for the forum in addition to being marketing spam, and has for years, since their last visit was in 2012. I suspect that the account was compromised in some manner. I'm nuking it and messaging them, taking no further action. Thank you Obfuscated for reporting.
Yeah so no sockpuppet or power loss was necessary. Hurray!
Oh but I totally just created a new category of poster just for chronodekar that's made him the sole moderator with access to the administrator control panel. I'm sure that won't come back to bite me in the ass...
Not exactly a report, but more of a comment. We have 2 reports about the same user necroing a thread from back in 2013 and another from 2011. Now, I did not read over the entire thread, but at a glance, it looked like the poster was on-topic. Which leads me to conclude that the necro was OK. At least, it's how I understood the rules. Please PM/reply here within a day or two if you disagree. If I don't get any objections, I'm going to close the Moderator Notice.
Oops, more than two days, but I went and dealt with the report anyway.
I also hit the thread necro-er with a warning since they seemed to have done so intentionally and didn't seem particularly contrite. We spoke, and although I have yet to respond to their latest I plan to with some variation of this post.
Basically, TFF has a lot of old content. A lot of it was written by people who moved on to other things and left works unfinished. It's always sad to see the line of threads from years ago because it means that TFF is an old forum but not an active one. Seeing any of the old names, author or thread, pop back up is occasion for excitement. Realizing it's not them or a story is disappointing. Finding out that the bump is continuing an old argument or fandom disagreement is downright insulting.
The person in question believes they were promoting dialogue and activity in the thread. Unfortunately, they were instead called out and the threads remain dead. Rather than necro dead threads and get peoples hopes up, I would much prefer you create new threads. Yes it's harder to get attention, but it's easier to keep the momentum going once you do, because the subject stays the subject and doesn't turn into people yelling at you.
Anyway, this is my late explanation for what I did.
