This is something that I've been working on for a while. I may or may not have a plan for this one.

Yes, I have been drinking. But it's not my fault I fine fortified wine so delicious!

Disclaim-me-do: Like all tawdry episodes of ultimate self-loathing, it began in Exeter.

Life had been challenging for Asuka Langley Sohryu; because of her genius level intellect, she frequently had difficulty dealing with less capable individuals. She had never known her father, having been conceived via artificial means. Her mother had gradually lost her grip on reality; eventually taking her own life.

That would have been a traumatic experience for anyone, but it had been Asuka herself that had discovered the body on what should have been the proudest day of her life – the one where she had been told that she was going to be a pilot for the Evangelion programme.

One could have expected Asuka Langley Sohryu to have struggled with the events in her life and lost. But that was not her way.

Asuka saw herself as the product of being forged in the fires of countless challenges. These challenges were the sort of filter that kept the incompetent, inept and, if she was feeling particularly harsh, the unattractive average people that she went to school with out of NERV.

Sure, she’d had advantages thanks to her parents’ positions, but she’d studied hard to get to university when she did. And they were what people called “real subjects” – maths, science, languages. Sure, she couldn’t read Japanese kanji very well, but her spoken Japanese was better than that of any of the other students in her university class.

Speaking of other students, Asuka thought about the class of shaved monkeys that she’d been stuck with. They had all been so very tedious; if they weren’t asking stupid questions about piloting, they were indulging in childish comments along the lines of their game “do, marry, kill”.

After the second time she’d been roped into a game of that, she hadn’t bothered to remember their names. And that had been the case of most of the people she encountered at school, with there being few exceptions.

Though, most of those exceptions were in her class. Hikari Horaki was the class representative, which meant that she fussed over everyone. Touji Suzuhara and Kensuke Aida were only remembered because they were Shinji’s friends. Rei kept to herself and that was fine with Asuka.

The only other student she knew anything about was Shinji. Shinji Ikari was different to everyone else she’d encountered. Yes, she’d been made aware of the stereotype of the polite Japanese man who didn’t want to make waves or cause offence, but Shinji was almost a caricature of this image.

Sure, he tried to keep his distance from people, like his father, but that and the name seemed to be the only things they had in common. Shinji certainly wasn’t like Ryoji Kaji, a man who Asuka had held as a prime example of manliness.

No, Shinji Ikari was polite; he tried to look away whenever Misato tried to embarrass him for her amusement. Part of her had been beginning to think that Shinji didn’t like girls, but an incident where she caught him looking at her out of the corner of his eye had convinced her that he was just shy.

Not only that, he didn’t seem to blather on about girls nearly as much as his idiot friends. No doubt Suzuhara and Aida thought that by being his friends, they’d get to be around Misato more.

It was possible that his exposure to Misato and her slovenly ways had cured him of this. It was his domestication that kept the apartment fed and cleaned, after all.

“So perhaps Shinji’s more than just a spineless idiot who’s a pilot because his father’s in charge of NERV?” Asuka asked herself. She let out a small laugh and returned her attention to the last of her homework that had been set. “This is easy. Reduction is loss, oxidation is gain.”

Stretching, the redhead looked at the time and decided it wasn’t worth doing anything else that evening and went to bed.

@@@@@

As ever, Shinji was the first up and was going through the morning routine. The table was set and the coffee machine had been filled when the post was delivered. Since it sounded like there were more letters than usual, Shinji went to deal with them before putting the food on to cook.

“There’s something for Asuka?” he asked rhetorically. Shrugging, he placed the envelopes on the table where the recipients sat and went back to preparing breakfast.

Asuka was first out of her room and headed wordlessly into the bathroom. A short while later, she emerged and returned to her own room to dress for school.

Shinji had learned not to look up when he heard the door to the bathroom open. He had learned this the hard way when Asuka had assumed that he was hoping to get a look at her body and punched him in the face.

A few minutes later and Misato emerged from her room at the same time Asuka stepped out of hers.

“Morning, Misato,” Asuka said, surprisingly cheerfully.

“Mornin’, Asuka,” Misato mumbled in reply.

The pair sat down in their seats, waiting for their breakfast. The purple haired woman looked at her post and determined that most of them were bills.

Asuka, meanwhile, was about to hand over the envelope to Misato, having assumed that Shinji had been sloppy with the placement. “Wait, this is for me.”

“Oh, have you got some secret admirer?” Misato teased, perking up at the thought of causing some mild mischief.

“I doubt it,” the redhead said, having scanned the letterhead. “It’s from a legal firm.”

“Is everything alright, Asuka?” Shinji asked.

“I’ll find out in a minute, you just make sure that my toast isn’t burnt to a crisp, ok?” Asuka instructed before reading through the letter. “It seems that my stepfather died recently.”

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, Asuka,” the young Ikari said, placing plates of scrambled eggs on toast on the table.

“I’m not that sorry,” Asuka shrugged. She looked at her roommates as she placed her letter on the table. “I mean, I’m not glad he’s dead or anything, but I never really got on with him.”

“Oh,” Misato nodded. She opened her morning beer and took a long drink. “The only way to start the day.”

Shinji managed to hold in his sigh, but it was clear that he didn’t agree with his guardian’s breakfast tastes. Asuka noticed the look on his face, but said nothing.

After the rest of the meal was eaten in silence, Asuka picked up her letter and read through the later paragraphs. “Apparently, I have been named in his will, but it’s being contested.”

“Why would it be contested?”

“It’s a long and complicated story,” Asuka said. “One that ends with me punching people who ask about it in the face. Are you sure you want me to tell it to you?”

“N-no, it’s ok,” Shinji said, embarrassed by his impertinence.

“So what happens now?” Misato asked.

“I don’t know. I don’t need to do anything; this is just to let me know what’s happening. If I get something, then it’s great. But if I don’t then I’m quite happy to have nothing to do with him ever again,” the redhead said philosophically. “So really, I’m in the same position I was in yesterday.”

“Oh, well, if you need me to do anything, then let me know, ok, Asuka?” Misato said, trying her best to be supportive and professional, despite the can of beer in her hand.

“Will do, Misato. Come on Shinji, it’s time for school.”

“Coming, Asuka,” Shinji said as he finished clearing the table.

@@@@@

Asuka was bored with school soon after the first lesson had started, though she had endured the tedium. What was really bothering her though, was the self-study period she was sitting in, the planned lesson had been abandoned due to a teacher absence.

After a few minutes, she decided to use the school’s internet connection to do some research on her stepfather. After looking at the first obituary, she noticed that someone was standing next to her.

“What do you want?”

“I… well, I mean…” the male student fumbled for words.

“Spit it out before I get angry,” Asuka warned as she checked the next result in her search.

“Are you doing anything this weekend?”

“What’s it to you?”

“I thought that it you weren’t doing anything that you might want to out to see a movie or something…”

The pilot turned to see who it was that was asking her out on a date. “I’m busy this weekend. Go ask somebody else.”

“That’s a bit cruel…” the would-be suitor protested.

“No, cruel would be telling you to piss off by beating you unconscious with your shoes and setting you on fire. I’m not interested in going to the movies with you. Now, run along before I lose what little patience I have left.”

The boy fled, hoping to keep what little dignity he had left intact.

Asuka shook her head before continuing her research. ‘So, it seems that he was worth a few Euros when he died. Always nice to have some money, but I don’t think I’ll get much from the will.’

@@@@@

At lunch time, Hikari approached her friend. “Err, Asuka-chan, is everything alright?”

“Why would you think that, Hikari?”

“Well, it’s just the way you rejected Sato-kun earlier…”

“First off, he’s not my type,” Asuka replied curtly. Her expression softened slightly as she continued her explanation. “Secondly, it’s hard to make plans for socialising when you can be called off at a moment’s notice.”

“But it would have been kinder you’d accepted his offer and lied about not being able to meet him,” Hikari suggested. “You do have a built in excuse.”

“And suddenly every time I fail to show up on time, people think that there’s an emergency and start panicking,” the redhead deadpanned. “Look, Hikari, I appreciate that you’re trying to look out for everyone in the class, but you’re not cut out for this match-maker business.”

“But there has to be someone you like.”

Asuka smiled patronisingly. There was Kaji, but Hikari would never approve, not to mention the flak they’d both get from Misato. The other boys in her school were all idiots, especially the dull-witted ones in her class.

That left one age appropriate male who didn’t completely turn her stomach.

The pilot looked around. “There might be one person I like, but I’m too busy to discuss romance right now.”

“Is something the matter, Asuka-chan?”

“Maybe, I don’t know, it’s complicated. I’ll let you know more in a couple of days.”

Kentaro Sato was not happy about the humiliation he’d suffered at the hands of Asuka Langley Sohryu. Ordinarily, he’d have no problems getting a girl to go out with him.

He was handsome, intelligent and rich. Any two of those three would have made him desirable to the girls in his school, but he had all three in his arsenal, which meant that he could cast his net further afield.

If the girls in the area hadn’t been impressed by his looks or his casual displays of wealth, often in the form of gifts and expensive meals, then when they saw that he had a keen mind and could hold a decent conversation, they often agreed to further dates.

But now Kentaro was getting bored with these girls and wanted a challenge. Sure, some of his peers were up to more sordid things than he was, but that hadn’t pressured him into “disgracing” or “dishonouring” the girls he’d picked up so far.

Of course, Kentaro wasn’t expected to remain distant and socially awkward around the fairer sex, but as a member of a proper Japanese family, it wouldn’t do to be embroiled in a sex scandal.

Even before the Second Impact, there had been several falls from grace from old families in the Tokyo area concerning overly amorous young men from old samurai families.

However, all the girls he’d dated so far had been Japanese. Foreign girls were, as his father and grandfather had told him, different. According to the elders of the Sato family, foreign girls couldn’t be expected to be held to the same standard as Japanese girls. Which is why, in his eyes, Asuka Langley Sohryu was fair game for fooling around with.

Or rather, she would have been, had she not point blankly refused to go to the movies with him.

“Stupid, uppity foreign bitch!” Kentaro raged in the apparently empty bathroom. “Who does she think she is, turning me down like that? Doesn’t she know who I am?”

After a few more choice curses, the young man had calmed down enough to prevent himself from punching the walls.

“She’s just a silly bitch who’s going to miss out on a great time with a great guy,” he said, striking a pose in the mirror. “Any girl who can’t see my good points obviously isn’t worth the time of day.”

Kentaro pulled out a comb, wet it under the tap and ran it through his hair. He continued to tidy his appearance by straightening his collar and checking his smile. His teeth were immaculate.

“Saying that, she is pretty cute and it would be nice to get some photos of her firsthand, rather than taking whatever that dork Aida can come up with. Heh, I wonder if she had red hair down there…”

Flexing his hands, the privileged young man considered just how he could go about getting his hands on Asuka and photos to keep as a memento of the encounter.

“Blackmail seems so very clichéd, however it is so very effective. But what do I use?”

The bell chimed, signalling the end of lunch, cutting off any further plotting for the time being. Kentaro left for his afternoon classes with a spring in his step.

A minute later, the door to one of the stalls opened and Shinji peered out, hoping that he hadn’t been spotted. The coast was clear, so he flushed the toilet and washed his hands.

This was an emergency, but cleanliness was still important. The delay would also serve to allow the pilot a chance to decide what to do next.

Would Asuka believe him if he told her what he’d heard? Would anyone believe him? Sato was a popular student, and not just with the girls in school.

He couldn’t just let someone treat Asuka like that. Sure, sometimes she treated him like he was something she’d stepped in, but Asuka was important. Everyone at NERV would be angry if he let something bad happen to his fellow pilots.

Knowing his options were limited, Shinji decided that it would be best to keep close to Asuka. It would annoy her, but it would stop Sato from doing anything too bad.

Sustaining a few punches and harsh words was nothing compared to what Sato was thinking of doing.

Well... given this:

“Blackmail seems so very clichéd, however it is so very effective. But what do I use?”
We can knock the "intelligent" part of his personality off the list as being valid... considering the potential issues with this even if Shinji had *not* overheard it, that he had means his life expectancy would drop to near 0...

Even Kensuke would not be so stupid as to actually and truly attempt malicious blackmail against her...

Even if Asuka did not kill him... Nerv and/or Section 2 certainly would.

Given this is a Lord Raa story, we cannot dismiss Shinji killing him.

As for him being rich... I would think it unlikely that even were he to be rich, and even if he were to exceed her own current personal wealth... that he would exceed that plus what she might get from the will... but even discounting that, there is a difference between wealth, and power/connections....

The rest of the day panned out as planned, but as Asuka planned to walk to Hikari’s house, Shinji rushed up to her.

“What is it, Shinji?”

“I… Misato-san asked us to come home as soon as school finished today.”

The redhead looked sceptically at her fellow pilot. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the boy who had had asked her out earlier approaching. ‘It’s that idiot again…’

“I must have forgotten what with all the excitement of school,” Asuka said sarcastically. “I guess we’ll just have to hang out some other time, Hikari. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Oh, ok Asuka-chan. I’ll see you tomorrow,” the class rep smiled politely.

The two pilots walked away from the school gate in silence until they reached the train station.

“So what gives, Shinji?” Asuka demanded. “Why are you lying about Misato wanting us home early?”

“I…” Shinji started to sweat nervously. Asuka’s question was just the sort of thing that he had wanted to avoid.

“Tell me, Shinji. Don’t force my hand, or I’ll force it into your face.”

“I… I heard something earlier,” the male pilot answered, shielding his face.

“What did you hear earlier, Shinji?” the redhead asked, calmly checking her nails.

Shinji swallowed nervously. “I heard someone say something about…”

He was cut off by the arrival of the train.

“We’ll finish this when we get home, Shinji,” Asuka said as she waited for the passengers to get out of her way. “And this had better be good.”

“I…”

“If it makes it easier for you, you can write it down so you don’t have to worry about me interrupting you.”

“T-thank you, Asuka.”

“Now hurry up before the doors close.”

@@@@@

Asuka looked at the note Shinji handed to her. It was clear that he was nervous from the way his normally immaculate handwriting had wavered over the course of its creation.

“So some kid thinks that I’m a bitch. Why should I care?” she asked. “I didn’t take you for some kind of gossip, Shinji.”

“I... there’s something else, Asuka...” Shinji stammered, gesturing for his roommate to finish the note.

“Oh...” the redhead replied when it was clear what this boy, who apparently was the same person she’d rejected earlier that day, had in mind for getting some kind of revenge. The note was suddenly scrunched up as Asuka’s rage started to boil over.

“That absolute dick! What makes him think that he’s so special?”

“He’s...”

“What, Shinji? What is it about him that makes him so special that people haven’t smashed his face in for being such a jerk?”

Shinji swallowed nervously. “Well, he’s really popular. He’s rich, good-looking and he’s a good student.”

“So am I, but that doesn’t mean I can get away with his kind of bullshit!”

“...”

Asuka realised what she’d said when she saw the expression on Shinji’s face. “I’m also important for the continued existence of the human race! Just like you, Shinji. We’re allowed some leeway. Especially since we’re not looking to blackmail people into sleeping with us!”

Not sure how he should respond to the apparent hypocrisy of his fellow pilot, Shinji decided to see about what the next step should be.

“W-what do you want to do next, Asuka?”

The genius closed her eyes and took a deep breath for a moment. “If we confront him, he’ll deny everything and step up his plans for revenge. The school won’t budge until he’s actually done something, and by then it’ll be too late. That leaves one option: we go to NERV and see if they can put a stop to this.”

“Do you think we should talk with Misato-san first? She might know who to bring this to.”

“Good thinking, Shinji. Now, go rewrite your note. Make sure you don’t forget anything you heard.”

@@@@@

Misato wasn’t in the best of moods when she returned home. Kaji’s flirting with Ritsuko had gotten under her skin far more than it should have. Still the beer in her fridge would help her deal with things.

At least, that was what she’d thought up until she opened the front door.

The sight of Shinji and Asuka sitting at the table in the kitchen, waiting for her was something of a surprise.

“Is everything alright?”

“Misato,” Asuka said, “there’s something that we need to talk about.”

The purple-haired woman blinked in surprise. Shinji looked nervous, but then he seemed to most of the time. Asuka looked like she was barely containing her emotions.

“Fine, just let me get my shoes off.”

A few minutes later, Asuka finished explaining that she’d rejected a boy’s advances in school and that Shinji had overheard some of the things he’d said in response.

“What did he say, Shinji?” Misato asked, wondering if it was a good idea to get a beer now or wait until everything had been said to avoid any spit-takes.

“He... He said that Asuka was a ‘stupid, uppity bitch’ who didn’t know who she was dealing with when she turned him down.”

Misato managed to keep her expression neutral despite agreeing with the Sato boy’s assessment.

“And after a while, he calmed down and said something about blackmailing Asuka to get his revenge.”

That made Misato angry. “What? Blackmail?”

“I... didn’t get any details from him, Misato-san. Only that he felt that it was clichéd but effective.”

“Have you gone to the school about this?” the Captain asked.

“No,” Asuka answered. “It’ll be Shinji’s word against some rich, popular kid. He’ll claim that he was ‘only joking’ or that he was practicing for a play or something.”

Misato looked at Shinji, the one who’d heard the comments. It wasn’t in Shinji’s nature to lie about things, especially when it came to anything NERV related. Asuka certainly hadn’t done anything to Shinji to warrant this kind of loyalty. In fact, a lesser person might have been tempted to let this Sato boy do what he wanted to her as revenge.

“I’ll speak with the Commander first thing tomorrow morning. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need a drink.”

@@@@@

Misato had taken several cans of beer into the bathroom, along with her phone. As she sat soaking on the hot water, she wondered if it was a good idea to speak with Ritsuko about this latest development.

Before she could make her decision, the phone rang.

“Hello?”

“¬Misato, it’s me, Ritsuko. Is everything alright? You seemed rather upset about something earlier.¬”

“It was Kaji. You know what he’s like. Stupid jerk...”

“¬Yeah,¬” Ritsuko sighed. “¬He was distracting Maya with his flirting earlier.¬”

“Say, Ritsuko, there’s something that I wanted to ask you.”

There was another sigh from the bottle blonde scientist. “¬What is it now, Misato?¬”

“Shinji told me that there’s some kid at school who was looking to blackmail Asuka.”

“¬Blackmail? What for? Asuka doesn’t have the kind of money to make blackmail profit... Oh, I get it. He’s some horny idiot who reads too much hentai and thinks he can get a girl to fulfil his sexual fantasies. People like that make me sick.¬”

Misato blinked. This was a side of Ritsuko that she was hitherto unaware of. Normally her colleague was one to turn a blind eye to unpleasant behaviour in order to get the job done. To have her announce that a type of behaviour made her sick meant that it must have struck a particular nerve.

“What do you think we should do? I was going to talk to the Commander about this tomorrow morning.”

“¬Yeah, we’ll bring it to his attention. Do you know what this kid’s called?¬”

“Kentaro Sato. Apparently his family is rich,” Misato explained. “Do you want me to bring Asuka and Shinji in with us?”

“¬Yeah, and I’ll run the name through the computers to see if it brings anything up. You know how the Commander likes to have all the info he can on a problem.¬”

“Thanks, Ritsuko,” the bathing woman said before ending the call. ‘Well, that’s one less thing to worry about.’

There was a forum update applied by icyboards... that potentially could be the cause.

I know not because it was announced, but because there was a period I could not get into the forum, and all that came up was that the boards were updating, and referred me back to the main icyboard forum to find out what was up.

The formatting seems fine from this angle at this particular moment.

Let us chalk it up to a software update.

In the mean time, have the last scene of the first chapter.

The following morning, Misato emerged from her room and told the pilots that they were going into NERV instead of school.

“The Commander will want to hear what you have to say in person,” the Captain explained.

“Oh,” Asuka shrugged. She glanced at the letter that had been placed near her. “It’s from the same people as yesterday’s...”

The redhead scanned through the message. “Hmm...”

After a few minutes, she looked up from the letter at the expectant faces of her roommates. “It seems that they’ve finally made a list of all the assets my stepfather had at the time of his death. He was worth nearly 200 million Euros.”

Misato blinked. “Wow... that’s quite a bit of money.”

“Yeah, but remember that it’s being contested. So there’s a chance I won’t see anything.”

“What was the split supposed to be for the money?” the Captain asked, wondering how insufferable Asuka could be if she was that rich.

“I was supposed to get 20 million Euros and an apartment in the United States. But my stepfather’s new wife is contesting the whole thing. Apparently she thinks that since I’m not related by blood, I shouldn’t get anything, regardless of what the will says.”

“That doesn’t seem fair,” Shinji said. “If the will says you should get something...”

“Like I said yesterday, I wasn’t expecting anything from this.”

Now, are there any comments as to what should or should not happen in this story?

Are there massive objections to it as it is?

Are you hoping for cheap smut?

Would anyone here care if I, after a modicum of rewriting, put this content into another story?

As for what should happen to the would-be blackmailer, he should be publicly humiliated. Possibly by giving him 15 IBRC certification in front of the entire student body, or some other method of complete emasculation.

I don't quite remember which story you'd incorporate this into, so I can't say whether it's a good or bad idea.

200 million Euro seems a bit much, especially in an era of great misery or resource misallocation, unless the Euro was also devalued by a lot. It would also place Asuka in a spotlight for being associated to such a rich person, even if she was unaware of her stepfather's financial status.

Well, the euro being devalued due to runaway inflation is certainly plausible in a time of great misery and uncertainty, so that fits. Think of it as the equivalent of 20 million to 2 million today, unless Lord Raa says otherwise, and see if that eases your SoD.

I guess it depends on where you want to go with it. I don't see any problems in the story and I like what I see so far. I could see Gendo trying to get a hold of that money for the EVA project thus finally doing something that makes his son realize the bastard that Gendo is, man up and want to kick his ass, thereby winning Asuka's love? or lust? or, okay, maybe just respect. Who knows if Asuka is even capable of the first one, and she'd probably not admit to the second unless it was Kaji. But, you never know, maybe pissed off Shinji will be the one that turns her crank once she sees him looming over his father's broken body.

No it wouldn't be out of his purview...

I could also see her step father, as a last stab to the selfish tart, make his lawyer see how far he can go before she goes ballistic. Two wives? (Damn those re-population law cliches) Maybe three? Preggers by 18? Find what really makes her tick and yank her chain so hard she gags. Then say, "just kidding!"

I'm sure it'd look like an N2 mine went off afterwards but it'd be so worth it.

Regarding the finances of this stepfather. I'm pretty sure that there were still people with assets of comparable value at the start of the Great Depression.

Even then, who is to say that he didn't increase his wealth in the intervening years? I can't recall what his day job was, so who's to say that it wasn't finance related? Even if it wasn't, if he had some wealth (certainly believable in the grand scheme of things), he would have had a financial advisor.

Perhaps Kyoko herself was rich and he got her assets when she died? I don't recall Asuka ever mentioning money or a lack thereof in the series.

I haven't gone into the details because 1) I am lazy, /b/, I would probably get even basic details wrong and ³, does it really matter?

As for the story that this could be blended into, I was thinking Leisure Facilities. It certainly explains why Gendo wants to have everyone distracted if he's planning to murder someone and/or influence a court into giving him access to fund of €200 million.

Why blend the stories? Well, it would give the resultant story more content, perhaps even more flesh for the bare bones that I seem to write these days.

Of course, there would need to be at least one bridging chapter that gets from here to the start of LF, but that's the least I could do for such a thing.

Money is nominally avoided being directly discussed in NGE...

However, some interesting things come from what you can get out of it indirectly.

Consider, Misato for sure is underpaid by Nerv Japan, or at least is not being given much if anything for Shinji living with her. She considers steak a huge expense, and she lives in a small apartment yet has Asuka and Shinji jammed in with her. It is obvious Nerv Japan cares nothing for at least Reis living conditions...

On the other hand... Nerv Germany must be giving Asuka a paycheck... she is not only a clothes horse, her standard of living is far different... remember she said she did not even bring all her stuff over... and she had tons of moving boxes.

Also the rent must be costly in a nice part of the city, and the apartment is more than big enough for a single woman who might not have enough time to go apartment hunting for something bigger/more affordable.

Also her car was heavily damaged when it got caught between the JSSDF and the third Angel and she might still be paying for the repairs (something tells me she didn't go for full coverage insurance) so there is another unexpected payment for her.

Also there is the fact that she operates two freezers at the same time with the corresponding high electricity bill and got a penguin who eats fish everyday (and they don't seem to give him only the parts a human usually doesn't eat).

A nice part of the city? you mean when it is not being attacked by monsters from beyond?

Also her car was heavily damaged when it got caught between the JSSDF and the third Angel and she might still be paying for the repairs (something tells me she didn't go for full coverage insurance) so there is another unexpected payment for her.
Considering her position, and the importance of said position, along with the fact she is transportation for 2 of the worlds defenders... she warrants a free company car...

Also there is the fact that she operates two freezers at the same time with the corresponding high electricity bill and got a penguin who eats fish everyday (and they don't seem to give him only the parts a human usually doesn't eat).
Freezers are not that power hungry... particularly modern ones, and neither look overly large.

I read this post twice before getting a good handle on it. The subtext of this part of Asaka getting money, or potentally getting money is an important note but I feel it may be being used... oddly, I feel its either too subtle or not subtle enough.

The opening scene felt more like tell then show.

Over all I think you have done a good job but I feel that the scene where the male student first pesters Asaka feels a little off. If he is a charmer then he should not be studdering, off his mark a bit but should be able to recover before that happens. Otherwise it feels right.

I like the story and want to see it coninued.
As my liking for Asuka's character was never that high to begin with, I wouldn't mind reading about that boy blackmailing her into doing stuff, it would also cover my desire to read cheap smut.
