Naruto More Jutsu?

Should Naruto have had more jutsu, do you think?

I was thinking about whether people were (still) bothered by Naruto's arguably limited jutsu repertoire of Shadow Clones, Summoning, Replacement, Transformation and Rasengan. Excluding the many variations of Rasengan and power-ups, that is.

Should he have learned the Shuriken Shadow Clone and Clone Great Explosion shown in Part 1? Copied Jiraiya's jutsu such as the Toad Gourd Prison, Toad Flatness or Toad Oil? Summoned the different kinds of toads like the Diving Toad, Shop Toad or Rock Lodging Toad? Used his immense chakra on all kinds of wind jutsu like Kisame? Or followed his father's footsteps with the Flying Thunder God Jutsu?

Or is everything he's got in the tank a-okay with you fellows?

IMHO he need a LITTLE of variety. Little, because he's Kage Bunshin ability and de facto unlimited chakra would make almost everything overpowered.

Hell, simply Kage Bunshin+Shuriken Kage Bunshin+Wind chakra would be quite a powerful attack.

Honestly, I wouldn't have minded a few more justu. Original ones, that is. No Xeroxing off Tobirama or Minato.

But even more than that, I would have like Naruto to grow into his Justu and tactics, the same way Luffy did. We all remember thinking how weak/lame the Gomu-Gomu no mi was at the beginning of the series, but with training and creativity, it really starts to shine later on.

The Rasengan variants are nice, but 1) some of themfeel gimmicky 2) not an actual mid-combat move, more of a finisher. Hell, despite being a Wind-nature, he doesn't even know a basic Fuuton Jutsu. And while juicing up kunai or rasengans with Fuuton is well and good, an actual wind technique would be pretty versatile in his hands (think of the clone possibilities).

It is not that he has enough, Naruto has few moves, but he learned to use them well. When all you have is a hammer and all that. People who want to give him more moves either go for overpowered or... you know what, it is rare to see anything but overpowered, be it by giving him just strong moves or letting him just overcharge the move and make even small ones overpowered again.

I think Exploding Clones would probably be the biggest benefit to his fighting style. After all, he does the "real one was was actually a clone" and the "enemy is surrounded by henged clones" gambits a lot, and having clones being an explosion delivery system instead of having them use taijutsu would be a big upgrade.

Shadow Shuriken might have been handy, but not only is it supposed to be a lot harder than the regular Shadow Clone, and only used by Sarutobi (the inventor) in the manga, unless the circumstances are right (Sarutobi using them against Orochimaru in a closed space where it was difficult to dodge, using Fuma Shuriken against a floating Obito,) it's a bit too easy to deal with for anyone stronger than Muzuki, at least IMO. Earth wall, retreat underground, body flicker away, unseal a shield. There are so many ways to avoid the technique. Ultimately, the closed shuriken only travel as fast as Naruto can throw them, so unless Naruto invents a Rail-gun jutsu...

Jiraiya's Toad Transformation was actually ridiculously broken, and must have some limitation that stops it from being usable in combat, or Jiraiya would have been feared far and wide for populating battlefields with Toads. The Toad Shadow technique was a bit gimicky, and probably wouldn't be incredibly useful in a fight. The Toad Goard Prison technique was cool, but again not entirely useful in combat. Naruto actually kind of replicated that attack when he used the Rasenrengan against Pain's Animal Path while inside Gamabunta's mouth. Naruto could have used the Food Cart Destroyer anytime he wanted, but it was much cooler to see Bunta, Hiro, Ken and Kichi actually fight.

Thinking on Naruto's fighting style, I can think of two Jutsu that would greatly benefit and complement it. One: either Kakashi's Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique, or the Earth Release: Underground Projection Fish Technique used by the Rain Genin during the Chunin exams. Naruto having a couple of dozen clones hiding underground waiting to pounce would make him much more dangerous in a fight, and Naruto could even have the clones collect Natural Energy with little fear of the clones being destroyed. And Two: a fast, precise ranged Jutsu like Danzo's Wind Release: Vacuum Sphere. Naruto could have his clones use that jutsu to lay down covering/suppressing fire, or have it serve as either a distraction or a set-up for a finishing Rasengan variant.

It's actually disappointing that he doesn't have more. There are so many things I can see him doing with just wind chakra. Rasenshuriken is cool, yeah, but not only does it have a wind up time to make it but it wastes so much of the sage chakra.

Then theres the exploding clone. How does he NOT know that one?

I think Sarutobi forbid everybody to teach him that jutsu. Because, really.
NARUTO with exploding clones?

The only person who has ever used an exploding clone was Itachi, so it's possible the jutsu was a secret of the Uchiha clan that was lost with their genocide, and Itachi never really had a chance to teach it to Naruto.

I'm actually really surprised that Naruto never did learn an earth jutsu to move freely underground though. Doing that the hard way is how he defeated Neji in the Chuunin Exam, you'd think afterwards Kakashi would be all like "man that was pretty clever of Naruto to dig through the ground for a surprise attack like that, maybe I should teach him that earth jutsu I know that would make it way easier for him to do it again in the future."

It bugged me that Kishimoto introduced those two clone jutsu but never gave them to Naruto since I assumed he would from the moment I first saw them. They're the only ones I think he should have had.

Other than that, throw in some wind chakra flow for his shuriken and kunai and it'd be nice if he used that Wind Release Rasengan for once.

It's likely just rare, more so than normal because it's a derivative of a jounin-level support jutsu. Naruto never heard of it, Jiraiya never learned it and Kakashi never teaches actual jutsu ('cept that one time) if he could even use this one.

overpowered
The Fourth Shinobi War has redefined this word so many times I don't even know what it means anymore. And that was before their god woke up.

It's likely that nobody who was in a position to teach Naruto actually knew the Exploding Clone jutsu so I can let that one slide, but I agree that Naruto should have learned Shuriken Shadow Clone. It may not have been all that effective against S-rank opponents but it would have been really awesome to get a least one scene where Naruto makes a few hundred clones and just blots out the sky with a couple million shuriken.

Yeah, why hasn't he ever used that jutsu in actual combat? Wind Release Rasengan was a pure power upgrade over the regular rasengan and didn't have the self-damaging drawback of the non-throwable Rasenshuriken. Every instance of Naruto using a regular rasengan since his elemental training really should have been replaced with a wind release rasengan.

Well, Naruto can use the Rasengan one-handed now, right? If he can't do that with the WR:Rasengan, then if he's going to sacrifice prep speed for power, he might as well go with the Rasenshuriken.

So how about characters other than Naruto?

For instance, I would have preferred it if Sasuke had focused on Fire Release instead of Lightning Release after the time skip, especially in light of Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi. Seeing Sasuke create several different versions of Chidori whilst Kakashi did nothing with his Raikiri until much later always bothered me.

Sakura has still never shown a single genjutsu and all that foreshadowing was left unfulfilled. If she wasn't going to be a genjutsu specialist, then she at least needed something that was distinctive, powerful and tied into her other skills, I think.

I'd have liked more wind jutsu from Temari since all of hers seems to follow the same pattern of "big gust of (cutting) wind" whilst other characters have shown a bit more diversity in that field. To be honest, I'd want more charactes like Kisame who has a crap load of jutsu in one specific element. She could have been the wind jutsu equivalent. More puppets for Kankuro who's now the best puppeteer in Suna but looks lacking when compared to Sasori or Chiyo.

And more diversity from the bloodline limit users from the war like Darui, Gari, Pakura etc would have been appreciated.

Word.

I would have liked Kabuto to go on his own path rather than obssessively copy Orochimaru. You don't even need to change his ID problem, just get him to use tricks from all those villages he infiltrated, plus maybe some trolling jutsus.

Like, Kabuto can already animate corpses but he could also modify them from what he gleaned from Orochimaru and Sasori and use them in combat like puppets or clones or as Kawamiri targets (hell, use some of the former Sound4 to get more milleage from them). Give him some genjutsu and a trick from mist to throw his voice and create a trash-talk jutsu; add to that some sort of Sound jutsu Dosu-style to screw inner ear and induce vertigo. Tsunade gets to use her observations of Kabuto's jutsu to heal Lee? Kabuto gets to use his observations of Tsunade's scrambling technique to create an offensive medic-jutsu. Have him spit fricking poison.

He should be Doctor Frankenstein, dealing in the perverse and weird and using corruptions of average techniques and instead we get Doctor Snake. As if we didn't already have enough of that.

Also, Kidomaru could have been cool in a "more badass but not overpowered" way if he had survived to be in shippuden. Doesn't deal in genjutsu so he doesn't break the taboo, doesn't have an obviously-bullshit bloodline, just 6 arms, the ability to create weapons/make some armor, some utility with his nets and a summoning contract. I want a Gilgamesh riding a giant spider damnit!
