Title says it all.

I'm actually looking for a good rewrite of the Star Wars prequel or a Luke or Anakin/Vader fic.

thanks.

Can someone recommend any good War/Vietnam movies? Or just get a good list going... looking for good films to download.

Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
Deer Hunter
We Were Soldiers
Forest Gump :p

On a side note: Everyone knows the famous line from Apocalypse Now "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." And they say it's a very 'powerful' line. But I always thought that the bit that came after it was much more poignant. The full quote (from memory, so forgive minor mistakes):

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had them bombed for hours. When it was over and I walked up, there was not one dink body; not one. But the smell... that gasoline smell. It smelled of... victory... Someday this war's going to end..."

The 'someday this war's going to end' bit always hit me more deeply. It's as if Kilgore felt like the war had become a part of him, the napalm had become the blood that ran through his veins, and when it was over he would have nothing. The whole 'napalm smelling of victory' is posturing bollucks but it showed how it became a part of them and how difficult it would be to move away from that.

Kind of like how when the soldiers returned to the States they couldn't handle normal life. They'd adjusted to this microcosm of war in Vietnam and while the napalm is impressive and shows the great military power and ingenuity of their war machine, the fact that it's going to end, that it might all be for nothing, always made listen more closely. Gave the characters a sympathetic angle.

tldr: I'm a Film Studies student... I look into things too much sometimes and felt the need to rant it all out there. :huh.:

Cool, thanks for that. I've seen them all apart from Apocolypse Now and Deer Hunter. Will download them...

Soldiers not being able to adjust, Rambo was a good if extreme example of that.

For a few more obscure films dealing with the Vietnam Experience I'd suggest

Casualties of War
Jacob's Ladder
