I talked to my brother in California a few days ago and he asked me if I would be interested in a Chevy Suburban 4X4 or a Volvo 850R wagon or sedan and I told him either of them would work. But he did tell me that he is going to try to find me a Suburban that has either the 6.2 or 6.5 liter Detroit Diesel V8 in it so I was wondering if anyone can tell me the good and bad things about the 6.2 and the 6.5 because a diesel would work for me since I do haul stuff like scrap metal once in a while and I don't need a diesel that consumes a obscene amount of #1 diesel and I don't need a engine that will light the tires if I nail the throttle.
From what I can read here, The 6.2ltr would be a better option. I have some concerns about the compression ratio on the 6.5ltr and seeing 3 different ratios would make me personally stay away. If you have a look at the bottom of the link you will see some common faults over the 2 engine types. Keep in mind that the 6.2 was a earlier engine made during the fuel conscious 80's, and as long as it has/is maintained, would give better fuel mileage.

had a fun thing at work happen today dealing with my car. walked out of my hanger to go pick up my new pair of glasses from the medical station on base and came upon 2 guys syphoning the fuel out of my tank and talking about putting sugar into my gas tank to get back at me for getting promoted. needless to say i caught them in the act of doing this and these 2 idiots called the MP's.

funny thing was they has the balls to tell the MP's that it was their car and were putting gas into their empty tank. MP's actually believed them too and tried to arrest me until i opened the car and got my car paperwork and showed it to the MP.

i have not been this pissed for a while, but this shit just tops the cake.

"To get back at you for being promoted"?
What?
Do they mean that you backstabbed them to get the promotion or something?
Also you don't mess with someones car, playing pranks to get back at someone is fine but you got to keep it at a level that doesn't interfere with their daily lives to much, salt in the sugar or chili in their coffee things like that...
One more thing, shouldn't you have more credibility since you are higher in rank?

what pissed them of about me getting promoted is that i made them stop with all the harassment they were doing against me.

the fact im a sergeant and they are not means they have to follow the orders i gave them and it pisses them off.

also kind of hard to backstab to get promoted when we are in 2 different units and different MOS's.

Time to take them out back for a set of lumps perhaps?
If it was my car, a beating would be the least of their concerns.

Because of my family member in law enforcement, I had to make sure that didn't happen to me when I was in high school. Petty teens and all. I bought a locking gas cap for my tank. Kept one key in the glove compartment and one on my chain.

Why did you beat the shit out of them before they went to the MP?
Fucking with the car is a big no. Do whatever you like, but don't fuck with my car.

Seriously though, isnt what they did a criminal offence? Or I guess in the military, isn't that grounds for court martial? I know during my national service stint, if anyone tried to do that, a court martial would have been certain

UCMJ actions with multiple counts are now in works for the 2 idiots.

easiest way to say it is they are loosing time, rank, and pay.

lossing time, means extra duty and restriction to quarters and trust me that shit gets enforced big time
rank is just that, most likely they will go down in rank
and pay means that their paycheck can get cut in half for 2 monthes with that lost pay going to the wonderful place known as the Armed Forces Retirement Home a wonderful place where our great men who served before us live out their days treated with dignity and respect.

i would like to thank retard 1 and retard 2 for their gracious donation to help these great men.
i'm actually being serious if you get UCMJ against you and they take your pay, it actually does go to the AFRH and help offset the costs.

Serves the sorry pieces of shit right. They are lucky that someone wasn't involved in a accident because of their stupidity.

What I do not understand is how they could have expected there not to be backlash at telling a lie to the military police... It seems obvious to me even before reading that it was that such a lie would be ridiculously easy to disprove.

I know right. I'm actually pretty baffled that they thought they had even a chance of getting away with it.

I'm half imagining them shaking their fists at Rukia and making comments about getting away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids and their dog.

I suspect that they wrongfully believed that the word of two lower ranked soldiers would outweigh the word of one higher one. Looks like they get to learn the folly of that the hard way. Poor them. Not.

Well the thing is one of them called the MP's and that's what caused them to initially believe the 2 privates.

So anybody besides me happy about the upcoming donation from these 2 idiots to the AFRH?

I found a '86 Chevy Blazer/M1009 with a 6.2 Detroit Diesel for sale at a local dealer and I was wondering if anyone can give me any information on the 6.2 Detroit? I also found a Chevy Venture van for sale and when I told my brother about the Venture his words were "You want to drive a fuckin' minivan?!?" I would drive a minivan so I can haul the stuff I need for my jobs.

I cannot comment on the 6.2 diesel, as I'm not too familiar with diesels in general.

I also assume with a 6.2 that is a full size blazer and not a S10...

But if the Venture is newer (I believe 1st year was 1997), as long as in decent shape and will fit the needs, I would likely take that over the Blazer... you are talking 27 years for that Blazer, and the minivan will be smaller and more maneuverable and likely less of a guzzler in comparison. I grant you, that blazer could get through stuff no minivan of any era could, but I would not think it had much life left in it.

My father in law absolutely loved the early-mid 80's GM diesels. Some of which he had way over 200K on before the chassis they were in fell apart due to MN rust. He had more trouble with their trannys than he ever did the engines. Too much torque for the poor things and wore them out. I don't know which size motors they were though to be honest.

Detroit Diesel V8 engine

Apparently you might have to run a fuel additive as the injector pump is not compatible with new US ulp.

Constant visual attention to the harmonic balancer is a must they will tear the rubber and then you will have a busted crank. Use only GM or a Dorman balancer, Allegedly NAPA ones go bad in a couple months so stay far away from them.

Check to see if either ac-delco or bosch duratherm glow plugs and no others, as they tend to blow and leave the tip floating in the cylinder, also the ohm range of the plugs must be consistent or you will have trouble cold starting.

well folks the old car finally gave up the ghost, between engine issues where the rpm would drop to 500 then jump back up causing a noticeable jerk when it happened, the engine sounding like it was about to seize up, both bearings in the front wheels going out with the passenger side one going out and broke some shit like the various rods down below for alignment, which in turn caused the right side rotor to start wobbling around and actually start eating into the brake calipers. and where some asshole put aircraft turbine engine oil into my cars oil system a week ago and the repair bills were to much for me and way above what the car is worth.

the damn thing is off to the scrap yard.

although after much pleading (me telling her I was getting a truck) I managed to get the wife to agree (next vehicle she gets to choose) she let me buy this baby today.

Looks like a Ford F150 (maybe F250, it's a little hard to tell), extend cab. Black. Nice truck. What sort of gear are you going to carry around in it?

Ford f-150 extended cab, with hard top over the cargo bed.

As for what I'll carry mainly anything I need to but on occasion a shit ton of weapons and ammo. Gotta be ready for shit. Zombies, sparkly vampires, the British coming for that bit of back taxes, the Koreans, the mother in law, my ex's, and can't forget those damn velociraptors.
