So, Shonen Jump's latest and greatest, at least to me.

This is a thread for the discussion of the awesome that is American Superheroics through the lens of Japanese Culture. Sorta.

To kick things off, the latest chapter updated today! http://bato.to/read/_/304574/boku-no-hero-academia_ch30_by_fallen-angels

Hit that 30 chapter mark, this thing should be good to go till at least 60, Magico style at least so I feel safe recommending it to people now. At the very least this series has a chance to build things up from here.

Let me tell you though, if Jump pulled a Double Arts/Barrage again on this one however, I'd have flipped my shit.

That said all around fun series that isn't satisfied exploring the main cast but is also building up interesting side characters and their abilities and personalities. Thus far I'm really enjoying Frog Girl and Bird Boy for example. And Grape Boy is always good for a laugh. Their abilities are interesting too, albeit a bit one note thus far, but since they're growing into it a bit I presume advancements for them could come in later.

Certainly the Lead's growing into All for One at least and Fire/Ice man hates his fire half so much he probably hasn't even explored combo potential. Certainly possible for the others to grow into their own too.

Bird Boy is really coming into his own in this arc. He was just another face in the crowd before, but his powers are more developed now and he's actually getting some characterization. I think that's cool.

New chapters up.

We got some real team spirit going on here. Good heartedness that you'd expect from prospective heroes. I like it.

New Chapter is up.

Seems like All For One is a bit more mysterious than I gave it credit for. I'm still liking this manga.

It's a pretty solid series, but it's not one that I feel is good enough for me to lose sleep over missing a chapter or 10.

Chapter 93: All Might be tripping Death Flags like they're going out of style. I get that this is inspired by American Comics, but I don't think it's going to be resurrecting dead heroes the same way they do. It's a shame, I like All Might, he's oddly likeable for a mentor character. It kinda feels like he's learning the same way Deku is, even if it's not the same lessons.

Chapter 94: I'm legitimately surprised by that outcome. That said, the guy has ALL THE QUIRKS!!! So I'm assuming he's deliberately lost here in order to prompt further growth in his student. I also, briefly, thought he'd stolen All Might's body.

It's kinda easy to tell why he's the number 1 hero, with the largest public backing.

I read the newest chapter on mangahere and had the tsukkomu feature on. When they did the United States Smash and the first tsukkomu I saw said "*bald eagle screech*" I died laughing.

On mangahere, you can switch on a feature which shows random comments people have made about a manga page.

Ah. I use MangaReader, so I've not seen a feature like that before.

Chapter 95: That scene at the end with Midoriya and All Might... Pretty damn heartwarming.

Batman Beyond time. Time for the mantle to be passed on.

Chapter 96: Wow, Izuku's mom's the only one who actually doubts the capabilities of UA? Although, given her son's received the worst injuries out of anyone in his class, I'm not surprised.

What does surprise me, is that Best Jeanist is actually still alive! I mean, I get that this is an American comic written in Manga form, but seriously!?

I guess he's not Hero #3 for nothing.

Lemme get my seat.

Guess Deku's going for a glove/gauntlet which could develop into a bodysuit that forces his body to hold itself together. There's been a few mentions before now of specifically designing costumes to enhance Quirks but that's the only thing that comes to mind for One for All. Not that I'd have a problem with Deku straight up arming himself with random gadgets for some variety.

Edit: On another note, I'd like to see Deku start picking up martials arts to build up his fighting style. Nothing specific, just a mixture of techniques and maneuvers, even if he has to pull a Kamishiro/Kaneki and practice with training manuals. It'd help highlight how he's a more thoughtful and technical fighter in contrast to All Might, I'd say.

You mean like his Judo throw from that fight with Bakugou?
