Name of a graphic novel

I'm trying to remember the name of a graphic novel I came across several years ago, but it's just blank in my mind.

I believe it was from Epic. I remember there was a group of people who put on various costumes, and were exposed to the energy from some woman who looked like she was made of flames. There was an alien invasion, and one guy could manipulate his body as some kind of earth elemental. There was also a were-hawk (or was it were-falcon?)

Don't remember much beyond that.

Might have been, though the name doesn't ring a bell.
Did the enemy ship get pulled to the Earth's core by one of the characters, who comes back to the surface some time later complaining about his feet?

The one I'm thinking of was from the 80's I believe.

It was The Futurians.
