Nanoha Vivid Discussion

Well, magical-protection are not superior than usual power armor per se. First and foremost it's depen on how storng mage himself, while Subaru can tank the shout from the basically autocannon, don't forget that not only she student of Nanoha herself, but also a battle cyborg-mage. A standard TSAB soldier is FAR more vunerable for kinetic (or other non-magical) weaponry.

You've also got cases like Fate's Sonic Mode, which is explicitly stated to sacrifice a lot of defensive power, and Victoria, who's stated to have far tougher defenses than most people would expect. Chantez's surprise attack to the back of her head at the start of the fight didn't do a single point of damage to her, and I doubt her hair is a barrier jacket.

So it's here. Vivid Strike 01:. It's only the first episode, so I'm not spoilering anything. Yes, I am a jerk like that.

* Nice to see the old art style back. I preferred that over A1's cutesy art.
* InsistentTerminology It's Einhart, dammit! Nobody is going to tell me otherwise. Also, she apparently has accepted the "Harnyan" nickname Sieg gave her.
* Nakajima Gym people, Nakajima Gym feat. President Nove Nakajima. I don't like her hair though.
* Miura you turncoat! Joining the opponents gym just because they have a cute blond chick who you totally have a crush on. Or maybe this is actually Vivio's harem palace.,, I'd go with that.
* Einhart, being straightforward and making Fuka an offer she can't refuse.
* So Einhart is apparently a champion of the "Under 15" category of the DSAA tournament. Which means that sometime in the future, the Vivid manga will feature such a tournament...hopefully.
* Corona is awesome, I'm just here for Corona
* Vivio Takamachi, winning streak breaker. Funnily enough, she's more like a background character here than a supporting character,
* To summarize, Vivid Strike is basically StrikerS, only it's Einhart who's the mentor.

Indeed, Einhart really matured from her initial appearance in the Vivid. Not only she finally get her wish to prove the might of her Haegemon Arts by claimng the title of the Champion, Einhart also show that she not just can help people but also guide them, like she did with Fuka.

Heh, doesn't this mean she became the Haegemon of her small kingdom of the Nakajima Gym? XD

''Vivid Strike ep 02': A day in the life of Fuuka Reventon.

  • As the title implies, half of this episode is about Fuuka's new life as a trainee/employee at the Nakajima Gym. Speaking of which, that gym is damn big, taking about a floor or of a building. It also has complete amenities like several exercise machines, showers, lockers, a sparring ring and related equipment for the local team. I wonder how much is the membership fee for it?
  • In relation to the above, Nove seems to be making a fortune out of running her own gym, seeing as she can now afford a penthouse suite (though it is mentioned that it was part of the leasing deal for the space for the gym. She must have a good real-estate agent to get such a sweet deal). I don't remember if she's included in the roster for Special Duty Section 6, but if she isn't, then maybe it's for the best.
  • A short montage of Fuuka's training show her doing "weird exercises" aka. Rio's Shunkou Ken, and barely able to lift weights while Miura effortlessly lifts twice as much while stating that children are not supposed to lift heavy weights.
  • Everybody gets an Adult Mode now. Miura is apparently flat chested like Rio, and Corona is tall... taller than Einhart even.
  • I'm now convinced that Miura is into girls because she comments that Fuka has "a great body." I guess Hayate did leave an impression on her.

Maybe TSAB sponsor the the Strike Arts gyms, hoping to recruit those facilities' outstanding mages into their ranks in the future.

Hmmm, I admit I like the idea of Nove leading a MASSIVE wave of reinforcement to help her friends against Eclipse-drivers.

Vivid Strike 3 and 4: Where shit actually happens.

  • Well there's not much to talk about episode 3, save for the fact that Rinne actually has good adoptive parents.
  • Rinne's coach seems to be one of those secret bitch coach that think her philosophy is the only correct way of thinking. Well, she's just partly right, as natural talent can trump hard work, but only if the talented put in effort as well.
  • Lets just skip to episode four...

  • It turns out that Rinne and her adopted grandfather are very close. What happens afterwards was both shocking and heartbreaking to watch.
  • Okay, so Rinne has a gift for athletics, and it really shows from what we've seen so far.
  • Some bitch students decide to bully Rinne because she's adopted. Poor Rinne just thought they'd just leave her alone if they got bored. Then these bitch students cross the line when they knock Rinne out and ruin the tie pin her grandfather gave her, all while Rinne is called for an emergency. Said emergency was her adoptive grandfather presumably having problems with his already failing health, ultimately dying without Rinne being able to say goodbye..
  • Because of the above incident, Rinne resolves to never again allow herself to show weakness. What does she do first thing in the morning? Go to school, find the bitches who made her miss her grandfather's untimely death and beat the living shit out of them. It was a very unnerving thing to watch, Rinne broke one of the girls' arm by just squeezing it, slammed another girl's face on the side of the fool locker so hard, it left a bloody dent (and this girl was wearing glasses too), and kicked the last girl's head hard enough to make her bleed, then stomped on the head of the first girl. No evil laughter, no psychotic smirk of righteous satisfaction, just cold tranquility. Really, Seven Arcs kinda outdid themselves with this one.

Yeah, the episode 4's ending are brutal. Andfor extra drakness - because of her past sufferings Rinne became the thug herself. Her treatment of Fuka - her best friend and protector in the past - the very good show how victim became an bully herself.

Seems Miura is finally fulfilling her destiny.

Still, she put one a heckuva of a fight against Rinne. Id say she had a very good chances to win if she continued to barrage Rinne with strikes, instead of using one big finishing move

Wasn't Rinne like fighting with a deliberated handicap? She went easy on Miura.

While Rinne tried (before Miura forced her to get a grip on her leg at the climax of their fight) to fight without using her grappling techniques, her main shtick is her pure brutal strength. Honestly, I can't say that Rinne deliberately put a limitter on herself but rather get too full of herself.

Ah, I finally got free time to comment on something, well not too much time so I'll just wrap it up fast

Vivid Strike 6,7,8
  • I've seen enough shonen anime to know that when a supporting character gets a backstory in, something major is about to happen to that character. Who would've known that Miura is actually Italian?
  • As a friend so eloquently put, Miura has now fulfilled her destiny as the representative of the Wolkenritter as a sacrificial lamb in order to show how much of a badass Rinne is. Even her Heroic Second Wind doesn't save her this time.
  • Did Seven Arcs completely forget the Crash Emulate System, or the fact that Barrier Jackets, well...have actual barriers? I refuse to believe Rinne is capable of punching through a barrier jacket's defenses to be able to actually break bones.
  • As expected, Jill is the kind of coach who employs Training from Hell. Well, Tea subjected herself into the same kind of training, and look where it got her.
  • Vivio's backstory as told to Fuka seems to be the kind of story told to others who are not privy to official TSAB stuff. Rinne's thoughts about Vivio's life also kind of proves my previous theory that most people in Mid-Childa are unaware of who Vivio actually is, and the fact that members of the Saint Church related to the JS incident actively avoid calling Vivio "Your Majesty" around others kinda drives the point home.
  • Vivio Takamachi, upholding the family tradition. Although this time, she does the same thing to Rinne as Sieg did to Einhart; asking her actual motivations for fighting and kinda putting a dent in her otherwise unshakable belief that strength gained from fear of losing others is not true strength. Rinne's
  • Okay, Vivio won, but she suffered too much damage that she won't be able to continue in the tournament. Still a pretty acceptable result I'd say. Honestly, if Vivio lost the fight, I would've dropped the series there, because Rinne as a fighter is seriously lacking in technique, and the franchise has always emphasized the importance of being a well-balanced fighter in order to overcome the difference in strength. The question is how Rinne would cope with the idea that there are people she cannot beat through brute strength, especially since she firmly believes that strength is everything.
  • If there will be a new Nanoha fighting game, Vivio's Full Drive should be Accel Smash Infinity. It is awesome.

Indeed, it was nice to see Vivio triumphing due to her determination, skills and wits. Though, again, Miura also could have won, if she didn't try to use a sword-draw and simply continued to pummel Rinne with a barrage of strikes. Episode 6 was a good display of Rinne's weakness - her simplistic defensive mechanism (tank the blows and wait for a chance to return the hit back) and her attacks are a wide swings (they are very powerful, no doubts, but they took an additional time to hit).

Heh, I never thought that my assumption that Rinne wouldn't take her lose well would hit that close. But again - her mental state is one a heck of a mess. And who know what she can do next...

Heh, Einhart are such smooth-talker in chapter 81. Seems that Claus time, surrounding with lovely (and badass) ladies let him teach his ancetsor some nice pick-up techniques XD

Just wondering why in the world is Vivio just 7th place at the beginning of Vivid Strike that takes place around one year after the incredible feat she just achieved in the ViVid manga. For all intentions and purposes she should have surpassed even Sieglinde by this point.

It can be just because other girls stronger than Vivio?

P.S. And to highlight how close Nanoha was to death in Force once Thoma went berserk (thank you for your timely help Lily, Subaru)

Rising Dragon

Akiyoshi, you need to remember that Vivio is a magical cripple. Her power reserves were utterly destroyed and she lost the Saint's Armor to boot. That's going to hold her back regardless, and Sieglinde has 500 years worth of pure combat experience on top of natural talent in all aspects of magical combat, never mind the Black Arm of Jeremiah. Even by Strike! Sieglinde would mop the floor with Vivio.

And IMHO, just like Sieglinde adjusted herself to Einhart level (Vivid Strike ep. 12), so Nanoha adjusted herself to Vivio's level. That;s why she trained with DSAA fighters and Fate at the same time.

P.S. BTW, IIRC Eraser (attack Sieglinde throw almost casualy in her strong arm mode) are attack on higher level than Nanoha's Breaker.

Nanoha took on almost all the ViVid girls in preparation to her match with Vivio and defeated everyone. Only Sieglinde got to put up a fight a bit longer solo but seems that she ultimately lost as well. Yet Vivio was the one rising victorious against the Ace of Aces. It's only logical around a year later Vivio should be a beast unless suddenly Miura and Einhart also surpassed Nanoha during he one year timeskip.

vic-vic

If I get it right, she took on them to know on what level they can fight and lower her own output so Vivio would have a fair chance.

Again, just like Sieglinde did to help Einhart prepare for her battle with Fuuka

Rising Dragon

Just because she doesn't like to lose doesn't mean she's incapable of holding back. Nanoha is many leagues beyond what the ViVid girls are capable of, save Sieglinde and Victoria.

it pains me to see a battle harden soldier can be over powered or at least can be fought on par with girls that did not fight on real battlefields, Sure, they have the memories but that just memories, they didn't actually fought there -__-.

Akiyoshi

Not only a battle hardened soldier but an elite among them. However Vivio got a new defense even stronger than her lost Kaiser Armor. It's called Plot Armor and not even a full powered SLB can pierce that.
