Naruto Naruto adopted at some point before graduating

How much different would Naruto's personality be if someone just adopted Naruto as their son? (Rather they didn't know about the kyubi or didn't care varies between candidates)

Mainly because most of Naruto's traits and personality comes from living most of his life with everyone hating him. He didn't even know why until the first episode/first chapter and this led him to becoming a village prankster to get attention and be acknowledged even in a negative context.

Hell, I could even see traits of Stockholm Syndrome within his interactions with Sasuke and Sakura...

So how different would Naruto be with a constant and supportive parental guide? Would he still be just as determined to be hokage? How would this change his interactions with characters like Zabuza, Gaara or Kakashi? Would he be any better as a beginner genin or would he still be dead-last? (Ironically, he was the only genin in that class to have learned and mastered an A-rank technique (Kage no bunshin))

This kind of idea is hard especially for Naruto.

Naruto has already in the Manga shown he takes after both his parrents thus he is more nature then nuture. The main problem with this type of story is if he changes too much then its not Naruto.

That said little changes like not having the drive to be Hokage and having another drive would be one thing. Having 'extra tools' could help.

Be careful though. One tip I have for you is to describe the character and their traits and everything but names ans specific abilities to someone familiar with the series, if they don't know its Naruto, you have an uphill battle on explaining why its Naruto.

Well, it would also work if you covered his entiere Academy period, and detailed his character development.

I for one would love to see a fic where Naruto is adopted by Hiruzen. He'd probably turn out pretty similar since Hiruzen is too busy to take an active role in raising him and I don't think he'd get much special treatment beyond having Ebisu harassing him to study more, but having Konohamaru as a brother would surely make his childhood happier and help reduce some of that clingy insecurity and deeply suppressed resentment towards Konoha. And frankly that's what Hiruzen should have done in canon, I really don't understand why he wouldn't adopt Naruto considering that jinchuuriki being the friends and family of Kages is tradition in the ninja villages.

Because he's a tired old man who should have retired years before the start of the manga?

That's why I said he would be too busy to take an active role in raising Naruto. His adopting Naruto would mostly be for the benefit of giving him Konohamaru as an adopted brother. Whoever is raising his grandson would be the person actually raising Naruto. It's win-win for Hiruzen, he doesn't have to put any more effort into caring for Naruto than he did in canon and Naruto gets a brother and a happier childhood.

What I mean is that there might have been people opposed to Naruto being adopted by the Sarutobi, and he's wasn't willing to go for the mat for the kid? Or other clans wanted to adopt and use him, and Naruto being adopted by nobody was the best he could do?

Hell, Obito killed his wife to get at the Kyuubi. Maybe deep down Hiruzen blames Kurama and by extension Naruto.

"Naruto ignored the way the Old Man's eyes sometimes turned cold like the villager's. It never lasted for too long."

The problem is that all the cool adults, besides Sarutobi, are from other villages.

Has anyone ever read a fic where Naruto's adopted by Maito Gai?

Play the Ultimate Ninja series and unlock the hidden Naruto. It basically what he'd turn out to be if that happened.

That's a pretty pathetic answer.
It was a pathetic idea. We all know how it would turn out.

Naruto is adopted by Teuchi. His dream for the future is to become the ultimate Rameninja.
Sounds like a stupid idea...

It must be done!
