What? No he doesn't. In Boruto chapter 1 Shikamaru straight up told Naruto "You're always overdoing it... I'll finish up here... go home and get some sleep." Naruto ignored him and stayed in the office anyway. And in chapter 3 Shikamaru worries about Naruto's family troubles and encourages him to go talk to Boruto.

Shikamaru is good friend to Naruto. He's really improved from the little shithead he used to be as a child.

This isn't helped by the fact that Hinata worships the ground Naruto walks on. There's no real equality between the two of them in terms of personality. Their relationship is every bit as unequal as the Sakura/Sasuke one, and ultimately as unhealthy for them as that one is for its participants. IN my opinion anyway.
You know, I can't really argue with this. Naruto and Sakura probably would have been a much healthier relationship. Sakura wouldn't have put up with Naruto's bullshit and would have forced him to find a compromise between work and family. I think he would have been happier as a result.

It's unfortunate that Sakura clearly doesn't want to wear the pants in a relationship or have to put in any effort to make it work out. She apparently just wants to be the princess in a romance novel, where the bad boy is redeemed by the power of her love and sweeps her off her feet and they live happily ever after. Too bad real life doesn't work like that.

I must have been remembering the Salada Gaiden where he did scold Naruto for playing with Bolt- my bad.

Except Naruto always been succubus of Sakura, and she's always been abusive of him.

Yeah. Sakura certainly turned Sasuke into father of the year

No, actually he would be a domestic abuse victim.

I cannot remember the last time Sakura did show Naruto some positive reaction not readily followed by physical abuse? At the end of the Pain Invasion, maybe?

They are sure the perfect couple!

Regardless of who should've ended up with who, it just irritates me that Kishi intentionally made Naruto into a bad father honestly. I mean, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of ways to make Boruto go through some kind of character development without making Naruto out to be a bad parent after he put on the hat.

Yeah, like ankokudaishogun I was thinking of the Sarada gaiden. I can't speak for how things are in the Boruto manga cause I haven't read any of it. Don't really plan to either. That's probably going to majorly impact my ability to actually have an opinion on this entire mess.

I do agree with in-thread commentary about there being some serious cultural disconnect present. I had completely forgotten about the whole Ninja=Enduring thing, if ever I knew of it. I agree completely with the ghost parent thing being a common trend in Japanese Culture.

I hadn't realized how utterly segregated average Japanese family life is until recently. Apparently, the father is expected to have minimal contact with his children until they're in their teens. It's sorta like 1950s America on steroids as far as I can tell.

Good people aren't necessarily good parents, even when they try.

Remember: Naruto had no parental figure whatsoever until Iruka. Once he got the hat, obviously he was going to give his PLUS ULTRA for the village.
He probably underestimated what means to have and lose a father*, possibly thinking Bolt was old enough(being n the academy studying to become a Person That Endures) and still had Hinata.
Which wasn't completely wrong, except he forgot Bolt is a young adolescent, which amplified everything.
There is also the fact Bolt, being a prodigy, isn't used to hard work because he gets things much easier than most people.
He got a unlucky case of negative feedback: the two things he ever put any real effort, getting his father's attention and learning Rasengan are the two things he failed(he didn't fail with the Rasengan but he did misunderstand)- the movie storyline somehow fix this for both Bolt and, most likely, Naruto.

*the reverse is possibly one of the reasons Sasuke never made contact with Salada: knowing what means to lose, he thought to spare her that sufference, not realising not having in first place isn't good either.

Honestly, I think this is more of a reflection of Japanese life and its societal norms. The wives don't necessarily like how things are going, but there's little recourse but to endure, care for the children, etc., because it's part of their identity as Japanese people. Hinata has always been comparable to the Yamato Nadeshiko model of woman, so it's not a surprise she follows what we consider the more passive route. Sakura falling into it might surprise some, but her character is largely passive and pessimistic as well. We may not haveInner Sakura anymore, but, she's definitely not a naturally born and bred hellraiser like, say, Ino whom she modeled herself after.

A shitty facebook quality browser game with turn-based combat , garbage graphics and pay-to-win microtransactions... wow. How the hell did that get officially licensed?

That extraordinarily misleading trailer did make me chuckle though. It's such hilariously over-the-top shameless wish fulfillment fantasy. Thirteen year old me would have creamed his pants at the idea of a badass looking action game where you get to be Naruto's best friend. :snigger:

Meh, Naruto would need to be a girl for me.

(What? If I'm going to indulge in bad fanfiction power fantasy. I'm going all the way.)

Kind of, since the in-game story doesn't deviate much from the original material (so far, at least -- I only started three-four days ago and playing though all the types on different servers). However, in the Chunin Exams, you get entreated by an Anbu captain to keep an eye on Naruto, which has me thinking of Konoha specifically raising a child for the sole purpose of being both Naruto's friend as well as his Minder. Which I may just use for myself later.

Well, you're in luck if you play as the Breeze Dancer (blonde girl with the fan), as she looks more like Naruto in Sage mode and can learn her own Rasengan versions at level 25.

Makes me imagine a fic where Sarutobi was cold enough to order the parents of the Rookie Nine to tell their kids to keep Naruto at arm's length, so that when he did make friends with them later on, it would help solidify Naruto's ties to the village.

July 2016, Another (but shorter) interview with Yamashita
Summarized from a Chinese translation, by Haruka Katana

  • Kishi's assistant suggested this idea of basing a character off traditional folklore.
  • Momoshiki and Kinshiki are based off Momotaro and Kintaro (I guess, actually, duh)
  • They wanted to add Urashimataro too but that idea is scrapped. The villains are made based on the father son concept (To be the foil of Boruto Naruto)
  • Kishi wanted to expand on Momoshiki and Kinshiki's background, but the movie has limited airing time so that idea is scrapped too.
  • He also scrapped Shikamaru and Shikadai's dialogue etc.
  • In their world, they get stronger by inheriting Chakra through generations.

The way Kishi describes him, Bolt sounds more a fox than Naruto.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime

In the April issue of the magazine
Animedia, there’s an article about the new generation. In which, the technical
team of Studio Pierrot speaks to us that after 15 years since the anime began
(2002), now they have the current task of telling us the story of the new
generation, and, now that the original characters have already grown up, are married
and are "adults", they will also start at 0 with the children and with
new stories to tell.

As mentioned also by director
Hiroyuki Yamashita, the article indirectly says that Naruto is now over after
15 years of work, and the more complicated task to do will be: to give the children their own identity and
characterization, which will make fans to recognize them for who they are and
not for example: associating Boruto as
Naruto 2.0, and so on. In other sections
of the article we are reiterated by those who had told us from the official
website of Boruto of Tv Tokyo: the anime
series will begin during the days in the academy of the new generation.

Note: Therefore, starting at the
academy has been intentional, 1- To get the animation team accustomed to the new
direction they should give to Boruto, focus on the new generation, give it
their identity and thus avoid falling into something they would do in Naruto
with something simple of entrance 2- So that the public becomes familiar with
the adventures of the new generation.

I would have loved for Naruto to get a more mature reboot that better explored the darker and grittier aspects of being a ninja that were only rarely seen or hinted at in the original manga (stuff like Haku's backstory or the flashback to Obito graphically butchering an army of mist ANBU) while still ultimately retaining it's idealistic core.

Consider Pain's invasion of Konoha. That is my favorite story arc in the entire manga. I absolutely love how Naruto's worldview and naive innocence is shattered, how he experiences first hand real pain and loss and learns the true meaning of hatred, but he comes out of it stronger and more determined than ever to break the cycle of revenge and create lasting peace. When he stared down the man who killed his sensei and devastated his home and not only refused to give into his darker desires, but convincingly talked that man back from the abyss of nihilism and gave him hope again... that was when Naruto truly grew up and became a man, a hero, a goddamn legend.

Imagine a whole manga like that story arc. A better planned out story that doesn't have copout asspull mass resurrections to undermine the drama, where the hero isn't sidelined for hundreds of chapters at a time to focus on a less interesting anti-hero, where the villains are utilized better (instead of being wasted like half of Akatsuki was) and where the story doesn't get bogged down for years in real life during two in-story days of a ridiculously overcomplicated war where every named character who exists is revived as a zombie and power levels inflate so fast that by the end it's approaching DBZ territory.

I'd much rather have that manga than watch Naruto's whiny entitled clone-son obsess over trading cards and struggle to live up to his godlike father's legacy (while said godlike father is so out of shape that he keeps losing to lame bad guys that are half the villain Madara was.)
