Naruto Reborn

Ok, so... the challenge...

Naruto is the reincarnation of a dead ninja, but no one knew that... not even him. When Orochimaru sealed the Kyuubi's chakra in the Forest of Death, it did more than that... it awakened some of the memories of his former life.

At first it was just small details, like deja vu or weird daydreams, but it started turning into full-on technicolor picture shows.

Rules:
* Pick a ninja who died before Naruto was born... or could have died before he was born. As long as they're dead in canon and their date of death isn't definitely stated/shown to be after Naruto was born, they're fair game.
* Naruto gets any special traits/bloodlines that 'he' had previously, added to his own. For example, if you choose the Shodai then Naruto gets biju control as well as wood and ice jutsu, since Naruto is wind and the Shodai was water/earth.
* He does not gain all the skills of his former self immediately... it has to be gradual, slowly building up from the memories of his former life. Even then, he should have to work to master the skills... it's like fast teaching, not instant control.
* Naruto's personality is not overridden by his former life... he doesn't become who he used to be, he simply absorbs their experiences and abilities into his own. That's part of the reason for the gradual buildup of the memories and skills. It allows Naruto time to adjust and maintain who he is.

Requests:
* Please... no NaruHina... I'd like to actually be able to read it. :p
* Naruto/Tsunade would be nifty... especially if you have the weirdness of dealing with the idea that he used to be the Shodai or the Nidaime. Talk about a confusing relationship. :D

That's about it... pick your ninja, and let's see what you come up with. :)

That is actually a pretty good challenge, and I would kind of like to see it done myself.

A couple of suggestions for dead ninja: The Shodai (I like the bijuu control thing), Obito (Kakashi's friend, and it'd be pretty good if he threw in an Obito'y comment at him, sending HIM into deja vu, or my personal favorite: the original white fang, Kakashi's father.

Well, I'm keeping a list of possibilities here, as well as general discussion about it.

Not too sure on the general policy of yakking in the challenges section (my first challenge here), so I figured better safe than sorry. Plus, I'm not too sure how often people actually read the challenges.

I'll add the three you mentioned to the list.

Nawaki would be my first choice. Second, Nidaime. Third, Hatake Sakumo, for the sake of screwing with Kakashi's head. Fourth, Shodai, I guess.

Any and all Uchiha's...err...dead last.

Holy shit dude, u have no idea how similar that is to this story i was thinking about. Almost the exact same concept. exept it would be lame if he was the reincarnated version of someone we know about in the series. It would be cooler to make someone new.

Not really. OC's aren't really something most people want to read, and in this idea it would be forefront. Also with an OC you don't get any of the impact that comes with being someone from the series that had ties to other people.

I really dont like OC's that much either, but there are ways to make them work. It may just be me but making it a known character from the siries would just kill naruto as a person. Although the idea is not to change his personality, it would still make the reader think of that person instead of naruto.

Using an OC would make the reader think of him as the OC though. Many of the characters listed are blank enough slates that they can be used, and keep Naruto Naruto.

Not to mention, most people would still see it as Naruto. They would just keep looking for things to LINK to who he used to be. And to offset that, all one would have to do is an "I'm still me" chapter. Sort of like a chapter where Naruto explores who he was in the past, only to come to the realization that he ISN'T who he was, he just benefitted from the experience.

Thats my three cents worth, at least. =P

No matter how u think of it, an OC is an even more blank slate than a character from the series. Even if the knowledge of him is very limited. And the OC could have been exactly the same as naruto(even going as far as to have the same name, because we dont even know how he got his name).

I think it's pretty much the oposite of what u said. Using an known character would make the reader think of him as that character.Im not trying to argue anything but i really dont see how Naruto could still be Naruto if he was the riencarnated version of a dead character already mentioned in the series.

The idea I just got rates fairly highly on the freakiness scale. Orochimaru. We don't know exactly when Funk Master O started using his possession jutsu, but we can fudge that to at least twelve years ago, easily enough, and it opens up all sorts of fun possiblities for the story.

And before any of you start harping about how he isn't dead, let me say this. His mind was transferred to his first victim, and so on, but his soul departed when he left his own body.

"Fairly high?"

Son, that thing just blew the damn scale.

Yet strangely I like it. :snigger:

No... just... no.

I can't believe someone said it would be lame not to use an OC. I just...

There is absolutely no impact from having Naruto be a reincarnated OC. None at all... unless you write an entire story about said OC before you write the story about that person being reincarnated as Naruto, which almost no one will care to read in the first place.

The coolness of this concept is in fleshing out an existing character, seeing how this affects Naruto's relationships (romantic and otherwise), and using the 'ancestor soul' to advance Naruto.

With an OC, the point is completely lost. You could just give Naruto any powers as a bloodline and be done with it, because no one is going to give a damn about the OC he was reincarnated from... unless you're one hell of a writer.

I don't have a problem with OCs in general, but for this idea it completely negates the point.

And the idea about Orochimaru... *shudder* I just had an image run through my mind of Naruto going stretchy neck and giving Sasuke a hicky, while telling him how bad he wants his Uchiha body. :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger:

DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!! :flameon: :flameon: :flameon:

For a Tsunade/Naruto pairing....Dan.

Other choices Shoddai....now wouldn`t that be viscious if he was using the !st Hokages techniques against Neji. or worse if you know his name...Hiashi Hyuugas father.

As for Orochimaru I don`t see Naruto going after Sasuke...Kurenai or some of the older kunoichi and after using the tounge trick.......he will only have the memories and for all we know Orochi origionally was strait.

If you wanna go the Tsu/Naru route, go with Naruto as the reincarnation of Dan. Whenever Naruto interacts with Tsunade he experiences really vivid flashbacks. Sometimes, he's doing something innocuous or WAFFY like walking through a park or eating lunch with her on the hokage monument, but sometimes...if he catches a glimpse of her cleavage or if Tsunade stretches a certain way, Naruto will remember what Tsunade sounds and looks like when she comes, or the way she tastes...

Wouldn't THAT put an interesting twist on the way Naruto interacts with "Obaa-chan", especially if the really nasty stuff only started coming forward after he brought her back to Konoha?

Edit: Removed a bit from the first paragraph of my post, I damn near wrote a sub-par lemon before I hit the post button. Yeah, the Godaime pushes my buttons.

There are more ways than just Dan (at least I think so). Check the other thread for a potential way using the Shodai or Nawaki. ;)

That's true, but how else is it possible to obtain memories from two lifetimes of shagging Tsunade? That's hot. That's reincarnated long lost lovers sex hot. Where else do you get that outside of something like Sailor Moon and contrived fanfiction like...the whole Dan thing. You know what? Fuck it. Reincarnation sex is hot no matter what dammit. Unless it's two dudes. Then it's a SasuNaru highschool fic. ALWAYS. No matter what fandom the author claims they wrote it for.

Hm. I guess it would be possible to go with the perverted incestuous angle. That might be kinda fun. Damn you Mr. Mysterious! Your mild suggestion has sent my mind firmly into the gutter once again!

Are you saying that it left the gutter at some point? :snigger:

Although, I have to wonder exactly how many people that have died in the proper time-frame to be used have been mentioned in Naruto? Cause I can't think of many.

And while the Naru/Tsu angle is :p~ , I can't help but favor the crazy Madara theory I mentioned in the other thread. (Shameless plugging? Why I'd never! :p )

There are a number of possibilities. I think I'll go through and pick out the ones that immediately stick out, and toss them onto the list.

One I'm not too sure on is Gaara's mother, because, depending on who you believe is older, she may or may not be applicable.

What about the Sandaime Kazekage?
That'd make confronting Sasori interesting. Not only would it be a personal matter, but he'd know enough to probably counter the Iron Black Sand BACK on Sasori. So Sakura woould probably be sent after Deidara. And hopefully get blown up in the process. :unsure!:

This is probably enough of a reason to write it.

One more variant: Uchiha Izuna. I would like to see Madara's reaction to this revelation.
(BTW, perhaps with Izuna's soul Kabuto was able to blackmail Madara into cooperation).
