Never Surrender

Never Surrender

The air in the bar was heavy and filled with a lovely mixture of sweat, booze, and smoke. There was an old man sitting at the bar drinking whiskey. The other occupants were a motley mix of humans and aliens. A youngster walked in from the door. The kid had come from the local spaceport in this hive of scum and villainy. The boy was drenched from head to foot in water from the storm outside. The kid walked up to the bar with an arrogant spring to his step.

ôThe Empire has just fallen! There will now be a new-ö

The boy's speech was interrupted by the crack of breaking bone as the old man slammed a hard right hook into his face. The boy fell back onto the floor and clutched his bleeding nose.

ôYou, you Imperial-ö

Intelligence not a quality that this young Rebel was in possession of as the old man roared with anger as he jumped on the boy sprawled out on the ground and began to pound blow after blow into the Rebel's face. The old man rolled up his sleeve to show a tattoo of a wild boar charging through flames. There were words on around this image. ô653rd Legion, Never Surrender.ö

ôBoy, I was a soldier in the 653rd Stormtrooper Legion. I served my nation with pride. My comrades and I fought on this world, so you can live happily on it. The peace we have now was bought by the deaths of my comrades on this world. You dare to disgrace their deaths. Get the hell out. Now.ö

The Rebel sympathizer scrambled to get out. The air in the bar was silent, deathly silent. One spoke up, a male Twi'lek with light green skin.

ôOld Man Derek, what happened?ö

ôY'all want to hear a story, don't you?ö

There were nods and affirmative grunts from the men and women at the bar. Derek was a regular and a well liked and respected man in the bar.

ôWell, ladies and gents, it went like this...ö

à Derek looked at his helmet before putting it on. Rather than the standard white, it was covered in a mottled camo of greys, whites, browns, and blacks. They were holding the bridge while they waited for reinforcements. Hopefully the TIE pilots could haul ass to help them. He did a quick inventory of his equipment. All he had was pair of frags and enough juice for 24 shots from his blast cannon.

ôDerek. How ya' doin'?ö came the voice of his direct superior, Jerry Hickock.

ôI know that those skinnies are coming. It's just a matter of when. I just hope we can hold.ö

ôYeah,ö said the other stormtrooper, sitting down behind the barricade of duracrete, timber, and metal they had made. Hickock had a DTL-19 heavy blaster rifle.

ôWhat do you have, sir?ö

ôMe, a frag, and 60 shots for my rifle.ö

ôShit.ö

There weren't many of them here to hold that fucking bridge because of some fuck-up by the high command. It was just him, Hickock, Jeff with his light repeating blaster, Ravenlocke with mortar launcher and no ammo, Ettagar, and Vict. Then came the beat of war drums. The six stormtroopers set up their firing positions.

Derek crouched behind the barrier as the aliens came into view. They were tall blue creatures with bones tougher than steel and strong enough to crack stormtrooper armor with their bare hands. There were at least a hundred of them. They were mostly naked with only loincloths covering them. Poorly aimed bolts of blaster fire came from the mob. Jeff opened up with the repeating blaster. At such a densely packed mob, they were ripped apart. That was what nobody told you about blasters. The superheated bolts that blasters fired caused the blood in an enemy's veins to flash boil instantly. They skinnies were obscured by a cloud of green alien blood with chunks of meat raining down from inside it.

ôFire at will!ö yelled Hickock as he opened up with his rifle.

Green poured down across the dirt and turned it to mud. The range was too long for his blast cannon or the E-11s that Ettagar and Vict carried to say nothing of Ravelocke's pistol. Arrows, rocks, and blaster fire flew through the air. A javelin punched through the barrier, clipping Derek's helmet. It was a one in a million shot as it cracked the lense, sending shards of glass into his eye. He fell back and screamed but nothing could be done about it. He stood up and hurled a frag into air. It landed in the middle of the crowd and turned a few of them into something that should have come out of a meat grinder.

ôShit! I can't see! Fuck!ö howled Derek.

ôYou dumbass!ö shouted Hickock, ôYou only had two of those things!ö

Ettagar and Vict opened up with the distinctive sound of E-11s.

ôMy blaster's out of ammo!ö yelled Jeff as he pulled out a sidearm. A storm of projectiles and energy bolts flew though the air, keeping them from returning fire. They fire blindly at their enemy. The war drums continued to pound fear into their mortal hearts. They could hear the war chants now; a martial tune of dominance.

ôSir, we've got to abandon the position!ö cried Jeff.

The stormtroopers popped up to watch the charging wave of flesh. They ran over their own. Some of them slipped on the slick blood and were trampled to death by their comrades. The stormtroopers ran into the town, but the long limbed aliens were faster and quickly caught up. One jumped over the barricade and Derek turned to snap off a shot. The alien was blown in two by the spread of bolts. More and more jumped and rushed over like a tidal wave. Derek hurled another grenade at them. One of them caught it and looked at it with some curiosity before being blown to shreds of meat. Derek stopped and fired again, cutting them down. The other stormtroopers did likewise. The alien wave was them upon them.

Derek lost sight of his buddies in the melee, but he had much more to worry about. He fired, splattering alien blood and meat all over his armor. A knife lunged toward him as did clubs, blasters used a melee weapons, and even their bare fists. He fired again, until there was was only a cloud of green in front of him. Green blood dripped down across his armor like raindrops. There were more and he fired into the mist. Screams told him that he was doing some good.

The blast cannon ran dry and hurled it into the face of one of the aliens. The alien simply deflected the projectile as Derek drew his combat blade, a six inch length of steel.

ôCome and get me! Come and get me you son-of-a-bitch!ö roared Derek as he rammed into the thing, slamming a knife into its midsection over and over. A blow knocked him to the ground and he lashed out with his weapon. More blood covered him. The knife was wrenched from his grip as one of them lifted up the fully armored stormtrooper by the neck.

Derek saw his buddies before him as the alien swung him around. Hickock was dead, armor covered in dozens of cracks, and caved-in in some areas. Jeff had been disembowled and his steaming entrails mixed with chips of armor. Ettagar and Vict had fought and died side by side, both impaled on the same spear. Blacklocke no longer resembled anything human, mutilated into chunks of steaming meat and molten armor.

ôYou next human,ö spoke the skinny in halting Basic.

Derek wanted to cry, scream or do something-anything, but held like a ragdoll, all he could do was slowly suffocate.

ôYou die... slowly,ö spoke the alien once more.

The scream of twin ion engines filled the air, and bolts of blaster fire flew wildly into the air. Derek's vision greyed, but it was a truly wonderful sight as green laser bolts ripped them apart into a green mist. The fellow holding him was not amused and ran off, dropping him to the ground. They scattered or died. Bolts crossed across the space and cut them down. Stormtroopers were advancing.

ôThanks. I would have died out there were it not for you,ö said Derek in gratitude.

ôUm, Trooper. You weren't supposed to be here. We withdrew days ago,ö said one of the rescuers, the commander...

"à That's how it was,ö said Derek as he finished his account of the battle, ôI'd fought and lost my friends for nothing. I'm not going to have that happen again. There is no way in hell that my service for the Empire was for nothing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know deep down that I fought for something real. I'm not letting some snot-nosed brat tell me otherwise.ö

Not a crossover, but the aliens in question bear more than a passing resemblance to Navi.
