And then Ichigo, with no way to use his powers, kicked her. Shinigami seem pretty solid.

Actually the kicker is Chad completely decking that one hollow. Rukia's statement then said that hollows and shinigami have a high enough spirit density to be solid in that scene, so hitting was not surprising, but doing so with no fear of an enemy he couldn't see was.

Now for 258. We get to see the kid Snake part of team Zabimaru run off before learning the value of friendship! Karin performs her usual role of pestering the dead and spirits, and the 'Sword Fiend'...is seriously injured by a scratch on the arm. Adding to the lack of logic, apparently the Sword encouraged the snake to leave team Zabimaru so he could...kill them off one by one for no reason. Seriously, the snake isn't a threat to his freedom so why in hell is he trying to kill him?
The Snake also appears completely unable to recognize Ichigo by name or face despite spending a large amount of time around him. And how do they defeat this terrible Sword Fiend with the power of a Bankai? They don't show us. Literally, in one scene Renji deflects the Sword's attack from Snake. Snake appears very happy instead of embarrassed that he ran off like that. Snake takes Karin home after she performs her secondary role of being minor villain bait. And they never show anything else. I suppose the thought of the Snake walking away was too much for the unnamed Sword and so it died of misery or something.

Based on the others I imagine somewhere around 10-25 episodes. Not very exact but I don't know if the finish of the Zanpakuto Unknown Tales arc took up the majority of this or if they intend the Sword Fiends to take up a full arc on its own.

The question is if their will be more filler after this. And whether or not they'll actually have two seasons without any filler.

Well,latest episode is out..and HANATARO's Zanpakuto,of all things, takes down a Touji.

Glad he got his time in the limelight; apparntley, his spirit WANTED to return to Hanataro, and thought because he couldn't, he'd gone bad.

For 259:

1. 'There are no such things as ghosts in Soul Society' Ise Nanao. Huh? Wait, what? So what exactly do you think you people are? Wasn't the main point of your actions to gather dead souls and transport them to SS (not that anyone ever actually does that).

2. So exactly why do the Captains care about this? If my subordinate came to me and told me that there had been a string of thefts I would ask them why they were wasting my time with something they should handle.

3. When someone disappears underwater, even humans know better than to assume its a joke.

4. Not exactly an impressive fight.

5. The Sword Fiend is a bit of cliche.

In its defense this was better than the previous ones, and Hisagomaru reminds me of the FLCL fights. We also learned that Hinamori likes to make cookies shaped like glasses. Why is she allowed to move about unsupervised?

That was actually a colored special. It's actually quite hilarious, because they are all trying not to mention anything while Yachiru is staring at them, before finally crushing one in her hands and saying "I will stand in the heavens."

I should see if I could find that one...

260. It started off so well. I thought we would get interesting character development for Hisagi and Kazeshini. Instead it appears that Hisagi is fully capable of fighting Kazeshini, but won't until Kazeshini attacks him openly and fairly. Makes perfect sense. All that getting cut to pieces and needing Kira to save him before? Never happened. Kazeshini finds some baby and takes care of it for no apparent reason, even taking the child with him instead of leaving it for the Shinigami to find which is essentially what he does in the NEXT SCENE. And those horrible Sword Fiends who are supposed to have bankai level power? They're taken down by lieutenants without any real trouble and have facial details are so vague that they could literally be faceless minions. I'm starting to wonder if there's actually a point or plot to this mini-arc beyond giving the animators more time for the real Bleach.

They don't need more time, they're just trying to make more money.

261. Alright, I'll admit it. This episode was decent. It wasn't great, but it was much better than I had expected. Sadly I'm fairly sure that this was a stand alone episode, which means that none of the characters or the plot will show up next week. However I have two questions. The first is, she was trying to track her victim by a key chain animal? Not by say...address or anything but by something that many girls in the city must have? Second, while I'm glad Orihime actually appeared in this episode would it have been too much to ask for her to handle this herself? Does she really need Shinigami helping her at every turn? The Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book was amusing, especially considering that I think we know more about Komamura than we do about Sasakibe*.

*1 million internet points to anyone who knows who he is without looking it up.

Ya mean Yamamoto's Vice-Captain who got one-shotted by Ichigo during the Soul Society arc?

He's easy to remember since he's the only guy whose name we can't remember.

Alright, what about the tech guy early on in the Arrancar arc who traveled to Earth with Hanatarou? (Checking the anime or Wikipedia counts as cheating)

That example doesn't count. How could we be expected to remember a filler episode. And yes, his name is Rin.

Apparently he's some sort of mascot in Japan or something.

That's the point, it's supposed to challenge your Bleach cred. If it was something simple like which of Grimmjow's fraccion is which then it wouldn't matter.

Bleach 262. Hmmmm. Not as bad as some earlier episodes. Not very good either. The entire plot was obvious five minutes into the episode and the only real redeeming factor was Haineko's cuteness. By now I'm fairly sure that there isn't any real overarching theme or plot behind all of this besides to stall for as long as possible. I can only wonder how they plan to end it with any hope of making it enjoyable.

Blushing and trying to figure out why she's acting maternally to a Sword Fiend kind. Not really moe moe in my opinion.
