"In a press release today, Hasbro stated that the new adult oriented animated series G.I. Joe: Resolute will air its first ten episodes online and then broadcast the finale on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. All together, these minisodes will add up to 60 minutes of content.

Award-winning comic writer Warren Ellis will bring an edgy, intense feel to the series, which will feature the most popular characters in the G.I. JOE vs. COBRA canon. Iconic characters such Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Roadblock will do battle with Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness and Storm Shadow.

From the release:

Beginning on April 17, fans will be able to see the first five minutes of the brand new, stand-alone animated mini-series on AdultSwim.com. These episodes are broken down to ten 5-minute episodes and one 10-minute finale. Following the first episode on April 17, subsequent installments will be posted on the Adult Swim website leading up to a full presentation of the entire series. This finale will be broadcast on Adult Swim April 25 at midnight. This televised event will not only feature all episodes seen online, but will be the first time fans can watch the final 10 minutes of the G.I. Joe: Resolute saga. All episodes, including the finale, will be available to view online after this airing.

"In a very exciting year for the G.I. JOE brand, we're thrilled to be able to bring the G.I. Joe: Resolute animated series to the adult G.I. JOE fan," said Michael Verrecchia, Director of G.I. JOE Entertainment Marketing. "Adult Swim is the perfect broadcast platform to deliver the series, which features a more sophisticated animation style and story than prior animation.""

luv Roadblock's reaction to Snake-Eyes' Cobra slaughter, 'a ninja? I didn't know we had a ninja.' :snigger:

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like they included Roadblocks rhyming quirk, but it did look rather fun

7 & 8 are up,

ohhhh damn.

the seventh step.
I am rather surprised they're killing off several of the characters such as Stormshadow, Roadblock, and the others at this stage. They're seemingly working to prevent a sequal series.

Well I guess it's official in the resolute universe: scarlett chooses Duke

oh, and Zartan monologues and gets capped by Duke

Well, looks like Duke is done dicking around and plans to finish it.

Just finished watching the whole thing. Fun stuff that brings back memories with a slightly more mature tone to it.

Is it just me, or did G.I.Joe learn how to aim under fire, while Cobra still needs a nuclear sized blast to hit something the size of an aircraft carrier?

You'd think they'd do better by diverting some of the funding for all that hardware to a good vision health care plan. Buy those troops some glasses and ruling the world becomes much more possible.

It always seemed weird to me that both sides seemed to be able to hit a fly off a wall from three hundred yards away, yet are still unable to hit each other in a firefight.

Nice conclusion to the animated show really.

Very ambiguous ending leaving it open for more in the future of course.

Though, the whole idea of 'we were just dicking around for ninety something episodes, but finally decided to become serious for this one battle' thing was a bit much.

Cobra Commander's admission that he was just pretending to be a cowardly idiot to make his troops think was also a bit jarring. While amusing, it would have been better if they'd just left it out.

It features four notable deaths. Only two of which we actually get to see happen.

The scene from the trailer some of us might have seen is absent from the hour long series. Where Roadblock and Duke are pinned in a bunker, while Snake Eyes carves up several Cobra grunts outside. Roadblock's comment of "A ninja? I didn't know we had a ninja!" doesn't appear. Which makes me think there might already be more to come soon.

It seems to act as a direct sequel to 'The Real American Hero' series, and act as a sort of ending to it all. Lots of little nods in there for fans of the original mini series and show.

Fun stuff, but Cobra is a bit off from the incompetent goofballs from the original series. They become quite nasty all of a sudden for no apparent reason.

Hope there's more of this in the future. There's plenty of room left at the end for more. I was having a retro nerdgazm flashback. It was fun, but in a sort of PG-13 anime kind of way. Violence and mild gore, much more fluid action and animation. Lots of deaths, but little to no real blood aside from a dead body at the opening, and an injury later on.

8.5/10 if you've seen the old show.

Probably more like 7/10 if not. You really need to have seen the original run to get the most out of this.

It's a thing that plays heavily on the nostalgia factor of my age group. The sort of thing you wished would have happened in the original show when you were a kid, but your parents [likely] never would have let you watch if it had.

No, I didn't miscount the deaths. If you think he's dead after that ending, you've never watched an eighties cartoon show before. 'Absent' doesn't equal dead. If there's more, you can bet he'll be back as well. I'd put money on it.

I noticed the problems with aim, almost made a bad Stormtrooper pun in my had but decided not to.

The Canadian Teletoon channel was apparently showing the whole miniseries on Friday night, so I managed to catch chunks of the last two-thirds. Including the seventh step, the Zartan monologue, Dial Tone being a cute chick, and the Big Finish.

However in the parts I did see that featured any Cobra charge, I realized that the most important part was missing. Its not a true Cobra attack without  "CCOOOOOOBRAAAA!!!"

Sure they got to actually kill people this time; but without the shout, they're just another bunch of emasculated generic terrorists. :(

On another note: Cobra must clone its personnel for the Commander to so freely frag his own. Solo's Mercenary Law #3: "No reward is worth this."

Both sides shouted a lot in the original show. Neither side did it for this that I can recall.

So it wasn't just Cobra that didn't yell really. I kept waiting for it, never happened either way. No 'Yoooo Jooooeee!' Or 'Cooobbbrraaaa!' either way.

Then again, there was never the massive charge from both sides that usually went with that either. Most of the fighting was either in small groups, in vehicles, or covert.

I halfway expected a little blurb at the end where Duke stumbles across a group of kids standing around while one of them shows his friends ecstasy pills or a live grenade or something.

Personally, I didn't view it that way, the shout doesn't work quite as well as simply opening fire.

Considering the situation at the end, Cobra Commander was actually right in that it could fire again rather than the multiple hours that the man was commenting on. He's also showing that he does know what his weapon is capable of

You have to give Cobra Commander points for artistry painting the Cobra logo on the front of his panic room in his dead flukies' blood too. He never forgets to try to grow the brand for merchandising.

I'm not sure I liked the change of making Storm Shadow a legitimate bad guy. I kind of liked his 'serving evil to discover my uncle's killer' motivation.

I do give a nod to the fact that even if they were firing regular guns you still had a tradition red versus blue with the muzzle flashes, and I could swear I heard the traditional "lazer sounds" in the background of each round firing.

And I agree we needed a god "Cobraaa!" and "Yo Joe!" moment at the end. I kind of expected it when the carrier landed and Cobra started pulling out the HISS tanks. I figured either the Joe transport would have a couple of light tanks of their own or another transport would drop the rest of the Joes and you'd have the big push. I was even gearing up to hear the old theme song there.

Really though I give it high marks overall. 9/10 for me. I'm looking for a place to download it.

G.I. Joe themes:

Classic version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnuGhuNZnFs

Another with closing credits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g4e_5GaOj8&NR=1

Love the section ripped right out of the Star Wars Death Star trench scene. Heh.

Cobra! Version From the original animated movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU44140bO-M&NR=1

This should satisfy the urge to hear both the screaming and opening music.

I do hope they're smart enough to tack the theme on the end of the live action movie. I doubt it will show up in the opening, but the end credits would be the perfect place for it.

I had a link that had every opening for G.I.Joe: RAH together. I lost it though. Had this one too, but the link died a while back. Thanks. :)
