Evangelion NGE: Absolute Power

A young man lay face-up along a beach, staring up at a blood-red sky. A blood-red sea licked at his heels, and all around him was the pounding monotounous noise of nature. He existed without time, his mind blank in that state beyond despair, beyond death, yet still carrying such pain as to escape nirvana. He didn't know long he waited, but the sound of footsteps he'd dreaded finally arrived. He angled his neck up slightly to see a swarthy grinning face under a straw sombrero. The man wore an old, but carefully-maintained tuxedo.

"El Presidente, we've been loooking all over for you!" Penultimo Santos heaved with unfeigned relief. "You shouldn't wander around like this. There are rebels and assassins about!"

Shinji Ikari did know. He was hoping any one of them would actually be courageous and merciful enough to step out of the woods by the beach and put a bullet in his head. He glanced aside towards a thick clump bushes, twigs and netting in the middle of the sandy beach. He could almost hear a frightened squeak from it, the palm fronds poking out of the bush twitching as if they were tied around somebody's helmet. He sighed. Nope. None of that today.

Other fathers brought their sons camping or to a sports event. Even when dead, even when creation itself was a tangled mess, Gendo Ikari's ideas of a father-son bonding experience was an exercise in bastardiness.

Nepotism Government Experience
NGE: ABSOLUTE POWER

In which is revealed that Gendo Ikari in his youth
spent five years being the dictator of
a small Caribbean island-nation
and now his son must do the same.

OK, that's weird. Could be a fun read, though.

For a second, I thought that someone had posted an idea I had and mentioned in the IRC channel.

That one was a fusion of NGE and the <a href='http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=C6470592F3E99B71' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>radio</a>/<a href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwLw5TSaHK0&feature=BF&list=PL2859A997E0964B97&index=1' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>TV</a> series Absolute Power. Gendo Ikari is clearly in the same league for ruthlessness as Charles Prentiss.

In my idea, NERV was basically a PR company trolling the world as part of its brief to unite the people of Earth.

Yes, the Angels are all part of Gendo's trolling, but what a magnificent wheeze it is!

So, how exactly does a Banana republic survive two great floods? And tanging?

Are there AT-field shenanigans going on? Are the special forces of the island Rei-clones?

Is the radio guy gonna get shot? Please?

Also, I want to read about what Shinji does with the protesters? Does he shoot them? Unlikely. Does he let them gain momentum so that they can be democratic?

Does he put on a pair of Groucho Marx glasses and protest alongside them?

You sure about starting a new story BP? You already got alot on your plate with 'Shinji&WH40K' and 'Points of Familiarity'. We don't want you dying of overwork cause then you would update.

Cookies to nairit for getting the reference. ^_^

Of course, if you shoot Juanito, you're left with Betty Boom. Who finds the happiness of the people (such as, say, from making it a utopia where even the mere corn farmer gets a nice comfortable apartment and a free taxi to and from work) quite disgusting since it's getting in the way of the revolution.

Anyway, no. I'm not starting this just yet. Hmm. While it's the whole incongruity of a Japanese teenager in command of a Latin American country that appeals to me, I could also try to 'localize' the terms and tropes of the game to a post-Impact Hakone setting.

Asuka would obviously represent the USA. Rei would front Russia. Clones. Collectivism. The math works out.

So who would Shinji support in his speeches? Will he praise the communist spirit and be rewarded with multiple Reip scenarios or praise capitalism to get exclusive rights to Asuka?

Also: Communist special building - Reiquarium

Nope, no longer interested in this one.

Not saying it's good, bad or merely "meh", just that it's not interesting to me.

Uhh, Raa, don't take this the wrong way but isn't "not interesting to me" the definition of "Meh"?

Not necessarily.

"Meh" can be something that's just average or mediocre.

On a completely arbitrary scale of 1 to 5, 3 would "meh"

For the record, the entries on this scale of ideas are:

1 - Kill it and everyone associated with it with thermonuclear fire.
2 - This is a bad idea and you should feel bad for unleashing it.
3 - Meh, it might be worth reading if I'm really, really bored and I've got nothing else to do.
4 - Fund it!
5 - I would give up vital organs to see this brought to light.

I can't rate Blue Pencil's idea on the above or any scale, I just feel that it's not interesting to me. Maybe it's because it's referencing things that I'm unfamiliar with, I just don't know.

Use Hikari as an advisor. I would like to see the Class Rep been used a little more in the fics... somehow she became one of my favorites.

Damn, it has been too long since I played Tropico. Will need to play again to remember what characters there were. Maybe there would be a place for Kensuke or Toji.

Kensuke and Toji seem like they could fit as the starting soldiers that are based at the palace.
