Nintendo Wii

Anyways, my reassessed statement came true. We did sell out of Wiis. Heck, when I got there, there were none left except two (which we hold just in case someone comes back and wants an equal exchange. I.e., their system does not work, and so they return it to get another one). With only two though...

As for the lack of graphics, well, Wii was never intended to be the most powerful system. But hearing that it doesn't even beat GC graphics, pretty disappointing. Of course, like any system, probably just meant the developer didn't take full advantage of the system's power. However, if it was Nintendo's game... <_<. Well, I guess even they can't bring out everything. Especially for a launch title.

The thing is the new Zelda wasn't originally designed with the Wii in mind, it was designed with the Gamecube in mind, but got pushed back on it's release date after it was mostly completed so a well known franchise would be coming out on the Wii's opening since they didn't have a Mario game for it's initial release.

And considering that Zelda: Windwaker's graphics were cel-shading and the game was still fun, I'm not to upset that the graphics are just average.

Well, that goes to the idea, gameplay over graphics. Something I think Nintendo always excelled at. And also why their games sell millions.

Question still is, is gameplay enough for them to say, win over the Xbox 360 and PS3. And will other developers jump on board the Wii despite the technical limitations.

Technical limitations for some game studios will be easier to produce games for others...
while having a set of hardware that isnt on the bleeding edge of technology, they can take games that can apreciate the current hardware to the max without upping the production costs (or time to get to know/exploit the tougher hardware specs)

Then again it might take a studio that is willing to not go balls to the wall with production value (aka: willing to cut down on fmv's and ultra spiffy graphics) to make a game that's more user oriented and feature less eyecandy :p

In other words, you can forget about Square making anything for the Wii. Those guys are the biggest 'KEWL GRAFIKZ N FVM' whores I've ever seen. :snigger:

Funny how their best game in the PS generation was also the crappiest graphically.

Well that is one of the arguements for why Wii would be better. Not necessarily do better, but why, game wise, it would be better. Since developers don't have to 'waste' money on pretty graphics or CGI videos, they can spend it more on actual gameplay. The fact that it has a 'different' controller helps too.

And why hardcore gamers will always point to the 2d era as the best. When games moved to 3d, developers started to care more about graphics and in turn, focused a lot of money on it.

Of course, what is good for hardcore gamers doesn't always translate to being a success for the game company. After all, while hardcore gamers care about great gameplay, casual gamers usually go to what is hottest looking. If not, well, we'd all still be playing SNES or the Genesis now.

Been playing Zelda(the one copy my group was able to get after sending 4 different cars out to find)

Gameplay is great, love the sword fighting, though the controls need to be slightly reworked, like consistently making one button the cancel and another confirm.

The plot is intriguing, kinda like a good fanfic, a comparison those on this board can understand.

While the graphics are gamecube ported, I dont give a damn. If it could look better, great, but if it don't ill still play it. If i wanted a graphics king, I wudda camped out for a week for the PS3.

I never owned a gamecube, but bought the GC harvest moon just because i'm such a big fan of the series. I can play it now. Wiiiiiiiii!

I like the Wii. Even if the graphics suck, i still like it, because i can play with all my buddies, and hopefully with my girlfriend(who is mad at me because i didn't spend my wii money on her).

I enjoy the increased interactivity the controllers offer, though i kinda miss the (L) ? buttons on other systems. maybe a Wiimote with two underside buttons instead of just the one button?

I will eventually get a PS3, for the next FF installment and other RPGs, and as a cheaper Blu-Ray player, but I am more than satisfied with the sexy, smaller, younger sister, Wii.(I sound like a lolicon)

Now i just need to get a new TV for my room, so the other household members can watch TV without a fight.

okay, about 14 hours into it, just shy of dungeon number three, i can honest see why people gave this such high reviews: Best puzzles in a Zelda thus far, and amazing cinematography. Seriously, the other Zelda games pale at this. There are quite a few LONG cut scenes in this, as well as more general cut scenes that the other Zelda games had.

Graphical its turning into a mixed bag. Textures are still bad in some areas, but lighting and effects have improved, as have the general geometry and animations. Character design is quite nice as well thus far, love the designs i'm seeing. Also, way to go on the boss fights nintendo, this is seriously cool stuff.

What really is shining is the plot events and such. You'll know these when you see it. These are what really makes the game shine, and the first 10 hours has a few of these that will go down as the sort of thing this game is remembered for.

Sense of scale is massive too.
