Basic Summary - An alternate retelling of the Ranma 1/2 story set in the Star Wars universe.

Timeline - Somewhere between the KOTOR Era and Prequel Trilogy Era....a period of about 3,000 years give or take. The Sith are all but gone, and the Republic governs most of the known galaxy except for large areas of the outer rim. It is a period of relative peace in the galaxy, with a few scattered brush fires here and there.

Major Settings(at the moment):
Honshu - Forest moon of the gas giant Edo in the outer rim territories. The Earth sized moon has enjoyed relative isolation for the past 5,000 years, and was never caught up in the war between the Republic and the Sith Empire. The native population of Honshu is predominantly human, with a mix of Twi'lek, Togruta, Rodian, Toydarian, Mandalorian, and the rare Wookie or two who were drawn to the system because of a blossoming gas mining industry.

Josendo - Dense jungle moon of the gas giant Edo in the outer rim territories. Sparsely populated, and home to carnivorous plants and giant insects the jungle moon is a dangerous place. The only native inhabitants are the Joketsuzoku, descendants of discarded genetic experiments and slave workers when the moon was a remote research outpost for the Sith Empire thousands of years prior. To survive the harsh environment, the native peoples evolved martial arts fighting disciplines centered around the use of Ki (their name for the Force). Occasional contact with people from Honshu resulted in some forms of these disciplines being practiced there as well. Hidden in the jungle is Jusenkyo, the site of failed Sith experiments, and according to legend it is a place where warriors go test their true courage.

Locations:
Nerima - A large residential district of Honshu's capital city of Tokyo, which is home to a disproportionate number of martial arts schools. The Tendo Dojo is located here. Central to Nerima is Furinken Academy, a local school funded by the Kuno Conglomerate (the 2nd largest commercial gas mining corporation on Honshu). There is a financial district with restaurants, shops, and the Rare Relics Shop.

Joketsuzoku-Kai - A Joketsuzoku village on Josendo and home to the Warrior Cast. Here, warriors train to hone their fighting and spiritual prowess in the use of Ki. The village is located near Jusenkyo, and is located in a region that is considered very hazardous which is why the Joketsuzoku warriors live there.

Joketsuzoku-Ne - The central village of the Joketsuzoku on Josendo, and where they raise their children and interact with people from off world for the purposes of trade. The jungle provides a vast resource for trade which attracts offworld merchants.

Jusenkyo - Site of ancient failed experiments conducted in secret by the Sith Empire thousands of years ago. Nobody knows what the experiments were meant for. All that is left of the ancient research facility are thousands of stone vats embedded in the ground which have filled with water from a local spring. Coming up from each vat is a pipe made of a material which has endured the environment for countless centuries. Some unknown power, possibly derived from the Dark Side, gives each vat a unique property. Whoever immerses themselves into the water of these vats is temporarily transforms into whatever creature drowned there last. Warm water reverses the transformation, while cold water triggers it. An ancient groundskeeper droid (G3TR) is the only resident. The droid is friendly towards visitors, and if it has any knowledge about what the site was used for it won't say...some knowledge is best left unknown.

Story Summary - For the past 10 years, Genma Saotome has taken his son Ranma on a rigorous training journey all over Honshu. Drawn by the legend of Jusenkyo, they travel to Josendo. They do so on an old ion sailor, an ancient craft used by early Honshu explorers which uses sails that catch accelerated ions whirling around the gas giant's magnetic field as propulsion. Once there, they hire a local guide in Joketsuzoku-Ne. At Jusenkyo, they discover why the locals treat the place with so much respect. Seeking aid the guide takes them to Joketsuzoku-Kai which is nearby, and a tournament just so happens to be taking place. The usual happens here, Ranma ends up fighting Shampoo, who gives him the Kiss of Death, and Ranma and Genma race back to Honshu where they end up in Nerima. In Nerima, Ranma finds out he's been betrothed to the daughter of a local martial arts master. Much hilarity ensues from that point on, but where it diverges some is all the possibilities offered by the story taking place in the Star Wars universe. This means different locales can be set on other worlds, and the unique technology of the time can create some interesting challenges for Ranma and the Nerima Wrecking Crew. THIS WILL NOT be a Ranma becomes a Jedi story, though Ranma and Co. running into a Jedi isn't out of the question but won't be the point of the story. There likely won't be an overarching plot, much like the original manga, except the occasional long running arcs like the Prince Herb and Saffron arcs. These will likely change due to the new setting.

Inspiration for Ki as the Force - The Clone Wars CG series does a great deal to inject some aspects Star Wars Legends into Official Canon. Yes, the Clone Wars series and Star Wars Rebels both are official canon according to Lucasfilm. In Clone Wars the Witches of Dathomir arc and the Force Siblings arc gave me the inspiration to use the Force as the basis for Chakra in the story Nindo of the Force, so I'm adapting that idea for Ki in Ranma 1/2. Post Disney acquisition Lucasfilm is cementing the Force as a mystical energy comprised of the Living and Cosmic Force, and are ignoring the whole Midi-Chlorian thing. What the Witches of Dathomir could do with the Force clearly shows it can be used like magic. Their power was able to blind Count Dooku light years away, give Darth Maul brand new legs, and even raise an army of the undead. The planet where the Force Siblings and their father lived also demonstrated just how powerful the Force really is, and that there is WAY more to it than what the Jedi and the Sith realize. This also comes up in Yoda's journey at the end of the series when he goes to various worlds, including the Sith homeworld. So, can the Force be used to explain Ki techniques in Ranma 1/2? Definitely. Hell, you could even put Harry Potter in the Star Wars universe....the Force is essentially a form of Magic.

It's a Zorch idea. At this point you should assume it's bad and just hope he decides not to do it.

He's gotten one thing right: his characters are about as flat as Lucas's before they are run through the filter of someone with credible writing skills.

Zorch, I actually have liked some of your story ideas you've come up with over the years. But not this one. This reads to me far more like a fusion than a crossover in regards to story backdrop.

I've long ago learned fusions like this are rarely if efver as enjoyable as actual crossovers.

In addition, lots of cliches, I am actually not turned off seeing or reading cliches in stories, being a cliche in and of itself is not bad... but it is not a good sign to see so many fannon ones just in the descriptions.

One aspect I did see and like, and would not mind seeing more of, is stories where Genma actually decides for whatever reason to just give the sealed techniques to Ranma. In most cases Ranma either is portrayed learning them on his own, or having to practically beat it out of a very reluctant Genma.

I would rather watch a youtube video that's a compilation of every scene that Jar Jar appeared in, a dozen times, than read this.

It's just... what's the point of even having it in the Star Wars universe if they're in an isolated system in Outer Rim? So Jusendo is a planet instead of a mountain, filled with Phoenix-like aliens ruled by a Dark-sider who can reincarnate himself through Sith Alchemy? So what?

Unless there's actual interesting character/plot interaction between the two settings, what the point? Ranma 1/2 set in space/middle earth/the age of Piracy is still Ranma 1/2.
