Oddest X-overs that actually worked...

Ranma has to be the series with the most adaptability. I love Ranma crossovers. I'm pretty sick of the standard Ranma stories, pretty much every plot has been covered. Crossovers are good because it is relatively easy to adapt Ranma to other scenarios and still keep him Ranma. It is my belief that Ranma can crossover with any series, and work as a non-crack fic with most of them. I can't imagine a smurfs or my little pony crossover right now, but it can probably be done.
There IS a My Little Pony/Ranma crossover. Hasn't been updated since 2002. One of the ponies left Ponyland heading to Earth and ended up falling in the Spring of Drowned Girl at Jusenkyo. For some reason when she was speaking with the guide after, he mentioned Ranma to her, and she went to Nerima. I don't remember what happened after that. It's http://www.fanfiction.net/s/543594/1/

That's just... Yeah, I can't even begin to describe how I feel about that fic. The short answer would be: Oh dear God! My eyes! They burn! Now, while there may be some pretty whacked-out crossover combinations out there, best example would be HK-47 in any anime series, there are a decent number that can work extremely well; again, HK-47 in any anime series. But some thing just cross the line between avant-grade, and utter crap.

Basically, anything that is combined with My Little Pony, Barney, Humphrey B. Bear, the Telle-Fucking-Tubbies, or any other steaming pile of excrement that is passed off onto infants to keep them occupied while their parents attempt to catch up on the sleep that they haven't had since they had the child (unless it's a parody where the characters from the other series being crossed with are beating the ever-loving shit out of the characters from one of the shows listed above), it's going to be completely awful.

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't think anybody would actually use the link and READ the damned thing.

If you provide it, they will come.

Those could be used for crossovers, they would just involve the creatures being slaughtered by something. My Little Pony girl is just odd, and I don't want to read it to find out how bad it is. I would figure you could torture someone by having them fall in the spring of drowned Little Pony.

Robot Chicken pulled a funny parody using My Little Pony,

My Little Pony Apocalypse Pony.

There's Diamonds in the Rough (a Ranma 1/2 / Love Hina / Goldenboy) and Process of Elimination (a Ranma 1/2 mega crossover) from Brian Randall.

The first one works as it complements the existing Love Hina storyline by introducing an older Ranma who has some tough times in his life. Its more about building up the set of characters rather than doing the same old routine from Ranma 1/2.

The second one... well, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Before the release of the third Tenchi OVA, I thought this was well done even though it has alot of cliches. Going back now seems to be a bit unrealistic as the antagonist is Tokimi unleashing her army of alien bugs to squash the human race.

And both do not venture into the territory I despise the most - a lot of stuff in the Ranma fandom features Ranma turning into a god's gift to woman or into a god or something so blatantly wish-fulfillment in the first place.

There was a Harry Potter / Card Captor Sakura crossover that started out pretty ok. Title was the Return of the Sorcerers or something similar to that. But the writer is not doing well writing the battle scenes now that there's open war between Voldie and our intrepid heroes. It was much better when it was just Sakura and company trying to investigate this strange world of wizardry that existed apart from them...

So, avoiding Ranma for the moment...

Hmmm... No one's mentioned Dire Fates (Ah My Goddess/Hellblazer) here, an old favorite of mine. And then there's Sailor Hellblazer... (both finished, along with two other Vertigo xovers) Pity the followup "The Faith Machine" never got past chapter 1...

John Biles' crossovers are always amusing. I especially like Marmalade Moon (Marmalade Boy/Sailor Moon/El Hazard, with a bit of Kodocha tossed in, last updated 2004) "Zany" doesn't even come close.

Rod M also did an interesting BGC/Batman crossover called SMILE (last updated 2001)

And Elsa Bibat has a wonderful Hellsing/pulp adventures crossover (mostly The Shadow): Under the Shadow of Hell (last updated 2004)

Hrm... looks like most of these would also fit in the "abandoned fics" thread...

I like the older fandoms because most of the best writers started out there. RK, Tenchi, Eva, Ranma, these anime's spawned great writers, and some truly great fanfics, most of which are still unsurpassed in scale, scope, and story line.

Sooo, continuing the x-over trend : Shadowchronicles.net

Odd X-overs that actually worked, well there was a Buffy/Marvel/Hellraiser story I read a long time ago. Looks like the sequel died, though.

Then there was a Buffy/Final Fantasy X story. Same thing about the sequel.

Black Dragon's Ranma/Megatokyo crossover, which hasn't been declared officially dead.

A Ranma/Soul Calibur cross was on FF.net, Ranma became Nightmare if I remember right.

Would the Batman/NGE story count? It establishes that the comics exist but even so....and its much better then the "Shinji becomes superman" story, and I think there was an Iron man one too.

I know there was a Chrono Trigger/Ranma story, but the site I used to get to it is gone.

Its also how I reached the R12/Legacy of Kain cross, the one were Ranma was Kain's reincarnation, not the one were he became a Soul Reaver.

I love dire fates. It's what introduced me to hellblazer.

Sailor Moon/Tron. WTF mate?

Main character Ami. In the beginning, but this could be very interesting, I think. I must admit, though, this is not something I would've ever expected to see.

There was an Evangelion/Utena crossover, I can't remember the title or where to find it. Of course theres the classic Children of an Elder God (which hasn't been updated for years! :( ) which crosses Evangelion and the Cthulhu mythos.
From ff.net I've seen The Big Parallel Trouble Adventure, which is a Dual/Big O crossover which sadly hasn't been updated in three years, although its more of Dual with Big O plot elements.
Sadly, the majority of the crossovers I've found have been mostly Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, Ranma, Bleach, Naruto, and/or Yu-gi-oh, and so I instictively pass them over. Seriously, what about Monster Princess, or Parasyte, or Sakura Taisen?

I just bought that series a few weeks ago. I want to write a cross between it and Ranma, but I have yet to think of an even passable vehicle to do so. I know of one fanfic out there that crosses those two, but it's a multicross, and those aren't to everyone's taste.

There was this EVA/Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy xover that I can't really recall the name. Eva fiction at its best. ^^

Nope, it was more of an EVA fic with many elements of HGTG thrown in to give it a whack and some spice.

Oh, shoot, I remember that one! And when Shinji asked for info from the guide on the Eva, the guide made a bunch of "your mom" jokes, right?

That was a good story. I don't think it was ever finished, or near-finished, though...
