Odds, Ends, and Easter Eggs

A topic for any easter eggs or other weird shit you've seen in video games.

Currently playing Radiata stories and while not easter eggs I've noticed a couple of things that are funny.

Orotoroz and Garbella.

If you go into club Vampire at certain times Orotoroz and Garbella are talking at the bar. After alittle bit they get up and head towards the back. Once in the Void Community Hall Orotoroz is sitting on the couch with one arm up on the headrest and the other at his side. Garbella is sitting at the very edge of the couch and is angled towards Orotoroz. After they get there everyone clears out of the room. Garbella who is usually nice tells you to leave or you could get hurt. Right outside the room is the naive theif Elmo saying you can't go in because Orotoroz and Garbella are having an important conversation... Take it however you will.

While on the human path you have to go to wind valley. While there the injured soldiers will mention a few lines over and over. However if you kick them they make a gurgling noise and don't respond to kicks or you talking to them. Meaning you can murder them in cold blood.

Any other weird easter eggs or other crap from video games that anyone wants to mention?

The most amusing thing in Radiata Stories is Jack's reaction to Gabrie Celesta. Unlike the first two Star Ocean games, where Gabrie was either a girl or a very effeminate boy, in this game he's a huge, bald, muscular man wearing a thong, and with what appears to be a huge package. :snigger:

And when Jack meets him, he runs like he's afraid of being raped.

Another nice Easter Egg is in Tales of Destiny, where Cless and Arche can quiz you on Namco games, and if you get all the answers right, you get the awesome Throw Sword skill.

Next, that's just a randomly amusing thing, but in Dragon Force, there are two references to Street Fighter. Namely, Reiner of Palemoon makes a comment on how he used to be a mellow guy, but ever since he got addicte to 'Feet Fighter II', he became a real life battle junkie. HEH.

The second SF2 reference is from the Chun Li lookalike, Yanna of Topaz. When she's fighting alone, she says 'Chun who? She's got nothing on me! I'm unstoppable!'.

Next again, there's a SF2 reference in Breath of Fire 2 too, specifically an easter egg where you can see Chun Li doing her Lightning Kick. Dont recall the specifics ATM, and too lazy to look 'em up.

Finally, in Riviera: the Promised Land, there's a hilarious Easter Egg scene where Ein is caught peeping on the girls in the hot springs, and gets beat up badly. Very amusing.

That SF2 reference is in BoF 1. To see it go to the town of Bleak. Go to the magician's house and talk to him. He will ask you to put 100 GP on the table and that he will make them disappear. When he asks you this, say ''yes.'' When he says ''look behind you'' say ''no'' twice then yes.

Volia. Chun Li.

Play any of the Namco "Tales of" games. They're full to the brim with easter eggs and references to other games in the Namco label, especially other Tales games.

E.g.: In addition to the appearance of Cless and Arche in Destiny, they also appear in Eternia in the Coliseum. Furthermore, in Eternia, Sekundes has many similar attacks with (and similar swirling-power-orbs to) Dhaos, the Big Bad of Tales of Phantasia - and not only that, but he also has a certain notable weakness to the Indignation spell...

Also, in Soul Calibur II and onward, Sophitia and Cassandra have the Blue and Red Crystal Rods as unlockable weapons (along with the same color Line Shield), respectively. For those not in the know, these items date back to the Namco classic "Tower of Druaga", and were featured in every one of the Tales of... games, usually as very powerful staff weapons.

edit: Also, on the Capcom front... In Megaman X and Megaman X2, if you fulfill the conditions to find the secret capsules, X can learn the Hadoken (X1) and Shoryuken (X2). They can only be used when X's lifebar is full, but they destroy any enemy in a single hit.
When Light shows up in the capsule, he wears Ryu's karate gi.

Another Easter egg in Radiata Stories

Fayt Armor

On the human path once you're allowed to roam the castle go to Ridley's room a little ghost thing will be their and you will passout after it glows white. When you wake back up you're in your room wearing Fayt's armor (from Star Ocean:Till the End of Time) and a blue wig. then a voice will say a few things some of which is along the lines of it being a primitive world and they're not allowed to interfere.

I'd say one of the oddest thing in any game is the mistranslated Tales of Phantasia SNES ROM. Did no one else play this and get a good laugh out of the boat scene from it. To see those lines in a SNES Tales game just about killed me.

The sad thing is that the GBA ROM is MORE mistranslated than the DeJap patch. Y HELO THAR KANGAROO.

...how did they translate 'Ragnarok' to 'Kangaroo'? And for that matter, why Claus instead of Klarth? Or Burklight instead of Barklight?

I swear they went out of their way to contradict DeJap's patch.

Never played that version, so I can't say much, but that sounds pretty bad. At least the SNES ROM was mistranslated more for humor then then for small pointless things like what you mentioned.

But yeah, that first time playing the SNES ROM completely blindsided me with the boat scene, it was great fun.

They also called Cless 'Cress Albane'.

Now... there's been three different spellings for his name, that much I'll admit, but in the earlier appearance he had in tales of destiny, he was called 'Cless Albain'. So why change it at all? Some consistency, people.

I also don't get the misspellings of the names... namely:

-Cless's name becoming 'Cress Albane'
-Mint's last name becoming Adenade
-Klarth's name becoming Claus
-Chester's last name becming Burklight
-Tornix Morrison becoming TRINICUS of all things
-Demitel becoming 'Dimitri' ( :huh!:  )
