Digimon Of Tamers and Cthulu

And I even Spellchecked it!

Alright been reading my way through the Cthulu-tech core book so if I'm a bit off on rules its because i haven't read that far yet.

Also this uses the Tamer Digimon verse for this idea.. (Which also means Season 1 and 2 exist as old fictional anime in the series.. I chose tamers because I am most familiar with it, itÆs one of the darker digimon verses, and D-reaper could pass for a cthuloid like monster which inspired me (Interesting fun fact. the head writer for Digimon Tamers has written Cthulu-verse stories and wrote a screenplay for Dagger over Innsmouth.)

Oh yeah and Tamers if the only DIigmon series that has a event that might draw the concern of Nyarthlop and the elder gods. No not the battles, but rather Dobermons sacrifice to allow the Tamers to Biomerge in teh Real world. Think about that for a second... The sovereigns managed to program a digimon so that when he sacrificed himself, HE ALTERED THE FUNDEMENTAL LAWS OF PHYSICS to allow biomerging in the real world.

For the purpose of this bunny Ryo has always existed in the Tamer universe, and ended up int eh digital world by a freak accident after defeating Rika in the tournament. (No connection to the other digimon-verses which are fictional worlds at best here... although concepts and specific characters

Anyway We know from the Tamer-verse that Digimon were originally created by Janyu Wong and his group of college programmers as a program that evolved into the internet. UNware that they were tapping into the Digital world and creating the first proto-digimon. And after a while they realized they needed a deletion program for their new creation, and came up with the D-reaper.

Well in this idea when they were programming the D-reaper they were joined by a extra person. A regal Egyptian looking fellow Named Nyar. One who quickly transferred to a new school after the program was completed and sent into the internet.

In case you haven't realized that was Nyarlathotep had a hand in programming D-reaper... which goes a long way towards explaining its final form.

As to why the Crawling Chaos would go out of its way to create D-reaper? Well it has to do with the nature of the Digital world in tamers. Namely that said world was created by the discovery of the Internet and then managed to stabilize into a new reality.

Now Nyarlathotep has a lot of power over and in the various realities that formed outside the Elder gods... The Digital realm is a NEW reality that has formed. And as a new separate reality Nyarlathotep has much less (Or perhaps even NONE) power and influence in the digital realm. Or over its inhabitants

So long as the reality stays barren, this is really no problem. Sure the occasional mortal being might stumble across it and become mildly nuisance due to exposure to the realms natural energies. But those are individuals and are easily avoided or if killed if they prove to annoying.

But a whole race developing on one of these planes would count as a major irritant especially since Nyarlathotep would have little to no influence on them in their home ground.

Hence D-reaper... Ideally it would eliminate the new life forms Wong and Co. introduced into the realm, and thus the only living thing on the digital world would be the D-reaper itself which as its true programmer Nyarlathotep could control at his/its whim.

Cue Cannon Tamer events. D-reapers emergence, with some subtle off screen events by Nyarlathotep, to try and get a optimum outcome for himself. OF course along comes Dobermon, who changed reality to allow real world Bio-merge. (Well in the terms of poker... Nyarlathotep was dealing from the bottom of the deck to give the tamers two pair of 2's and Kings to D-reapers full house... Dobermon effectively changed the rules to state 2 are now wild turning the Tamers hand to four of kind.)

At which point Nyarlathotep's goal was shifted to plan B, mutual Takeout of DIgimon, Tamers, and D-reaper. Wong managing to pull off the anti-D-reaper program at the last minute was a 1 in a trillion chance that managed to void that plan.

So Nyarlathotep moves onto plan G (Plans C-F being deemed to unfeasible ) and while setting that up and covering up D-reaper and the Digimon from the general public (Incidentally also hiding them from the Migou for the time being) and the events of the DIgimon Tamer Movie occur.

time passes and the Tamers (Minus Jeri and Ai and Makato *Impmons tamers* ) and the Digimon are tricked into the digital world, Nyarlathotep enters Hypnos and uses the Juggernaut machinery to temporarily disconnect the Digital world from the real world through time. Either putting it in stasis or drastically slowing down time in the Digital world relative to the real world.

Than arranged for Yamanaki and crew to have some 'accidents' (Or possibly be put in cryogenic storage if someone wants to actually use Yamanaki)... while covering the whole thing up... leaving only Jeri left to suspect that her friends are still alive somewhere...

Meanwhile influential cult members work to have the old Hypnos place shut down, but not torn down or power cut off (If the server keeping the digital world out of synch from reality were to shut down who knows what would happen).... while over in the US, a Mrs. Ashcroft is delving into non-Euclidean technology. Eventually coming up with D-drive technology and setting into motion a chain of events that leads to the first two Archaneotech wars, Nazzadi invasion and assimilation, and the migou invasion and rise of cults that is the Aeon wars.

IN the meantime Jeri has grown up into a well respected Computer programmer, and finally a matronaly old lady who is a expert on old school computers and well known for trying to get access to some old government building (Hypnos)

Until a Random possessing entity (Haven't quite gotten to the monster section yet so haven't chosen which) invades her house and tries and spectacularly fails ot possess her (as to why see below)... bringing her to the attention of the NEG, wondering why she seems so resistant to possession by outer entities and typical magic use...

Which in turn leads to government (Perhaps a fight by Chrysalis corp attempting to gain custody over her, foiled by the Eldritch society....) to let her reopen the Hypnos Building with a small box full of three things. A old hand puppet, a static showing 20th century toy digital card reader, and a old cheap plastic toy ray gun... (For those who never saw the series, Jeri often talked through a hand puppet, the card reader is her old Digivice showing static because her Digimon is dead, and the toy gun is something Impmon uses to digivolve into Blast Mode Beelzamon...)

Which she then uses to symbolically re-link the digital world to the real world, after using her old program to shut down the server keeping the Digital world out of synch with the real world. Releasing the Tamers and their Digimon Back into Hypnos (perhaps in time to fight off a Dhoanoid attack?) As well as open digital portals worldwide. Oh and allow the Digignomes out to search for compatible children for future tamers....

Due to the time differential The Trapped Tamers have barely aged at all, with most of them in their late teens (16-18 years old with Suzie 3-5 years younger). Who now have to deal with a radically different world than the one they left... and a whole slew of enemies both in the Real world and the digital.

While the NEG watches them closely

which is as far as plot goes for my little bunny verse. Next I'll tackle some meshing issues as I see it.

It should be noted that the Digital world is a separate plan of reality that plays by a different set of rules than the rest of the universe due to its creation. The lack of need to eat is merely one of the more obvious aspects of this. Perhaps most notably it is on a different end of the spectrum so to speak than with the typical alien energies wielded by sorcerers and D-engines of the Cthulu-tech verse.
What this translates into is that Cthulu-tech magic and Digital data arenÆt compatible like oil and water. Digimon generally canÆt use cthulu-tech spells and ritual, nor can Sorcerers and alien beings use Digimon style attacks or digimodifies on themselves. Non damaging spells of either type tend not to work on the other, while damaging ones tend to be just fine.
I.e. A transformation spell cast on a Digimon would just slide off, but a fireball would still burn them. Ethereal possession wouldnÆt really work, although a physical possession (Like Parismon infecting a body) might if the possesse wasnÆt to alien. Of course this also goes for anything but the most basic healing spellsà
It should be noted Nanotech healing and devices powered by D-cells work just fineà although some healing on Digimon may suffer due to differences in body structure.
Humans on the other hand are a bit of the middle ground and it depends on which they are exposed to first as to whether they are more attuned with Digital world energy or Cthuloid energy. Exposure has to be relatively blatant so just traveling in an A-pod transport or handling a D-engine donÆt count. Having a spell cast on you (like say a healer at a difficult birth) or actually tinkering inside a D-engine or D-cell would though. (which incidentally means that a fraction of human children are unable to become Tamers at allà especially if they had spell casting healers at birth.)
On the flip side partnering with a Digimon or traveling to the digital world count as aligning with Digital world energies. It all depends on which you get exposed to first, to determine which of the two types you are resistant to.
Humans exposed to Digimon first canÆt be sorcerers, Archaneotechs, Engel pilots, Dhoanoids, or Tagers, à as their resistance means the otherworldly energies of those professions react negatively to them (fatally so in the case of the last three.. . Engels devour them, while attempting to implant a dhoanoid or Tager into them causes both to messily explode.) They also donÆt make good mecha pilots since the Operater Extension Side Effect, doesnÆt affect those attuned to the digital world.
This means the Tamers as whole are very resistant to otherworldly magic and radiation. The strongest resistant being Jeri*, Than Takato**, the other tamers who have biomerged, followed by Suzi *Who is attuned enough to digivolve Lopmon, and the weakest being Kazu and Kenta (Have digimon but havenÆt digivolved them yet). Incidentally that is also the list of order to how resistant to Insanity the various characters are.
*Jeri is the strongest because not only did she have exposure to the digital world, but she fought off possession by the D-reaper who as noted was created by Nyarlathotep.
** Takato stands out above the others because he was the creator of Guilmon. Prior to his drawing being scanned the DIigmon Guilmon DIDNÆT EXISTà thus his link to his partner is much stronger than his fellow Tamers. This translates into a higher affinity with the digital world I think.

Impmon/beelzamon- currently appointed Jeri/Calumons bodyguardà which can easily translate into æThe guy who suffers when Calumon gets curious.Æ

Calumon- As digivolution manifest, is in effect the young god of the digital world. Although unlike most Cthulu-gods Calumon is fairly benevolent. That having been said calumon is also very young and inexperienced in his powers and abilities, but can instinctively use them to escape sticky predicaments if directly threatened. Only the 4 Sovereigns (and to some extent Nyarlathotep) are aware of just how powerful Calumon can truly be once he matures into the full force of his powers and abilities as a god of a whole realm. Tamers remain unaware of Calumons full potential beyond him being the essence of Digivolution (to them heÆs like a eternal kid.)

Nazzadi- Naturally born Nazzadi can in theory become Tamers, but at a much lower rate than humans. This is because as an artificially created race by the Migou, the Nazzadi tend to lean more toward Cthuluoid energy than digital world energy. Nazzadi Tamers should be very rare.

Migou- ItÆs the D-engine all over again. Once more Humans have come up with something new. WhatÆs worse is, unlike the D-engine the Migou canÆt reverse engineer this. Not only do they lack the understanding of human emotion to form a lasting bond, but their race is to stepped in Eldritch magic use to really attune to the Digital world.
In theory Migou CAN lobotomize and brainwash Tamers into plants, spies and minions. In practice itÆs not that effective tho, Lobotomized Tamer spies are ridiculously easy to spot due to their link with their partners. Those used in battle can never Biomerge due to the Migou tampering (Biomerge requires quite a bit of emotional connection with your partner, which the Migou just donÆt comprehend enough to replicate with their mind surgeries.) Any such Tamers quickly become æDark TamersÆ and will eventually go berserk making it more trouble than itÆs worth normally.

Digimon Partners and Biomerge- it should be noted that the mental partnership between a Tamer and his digimon and especially Biomerge do not have the same negative consequences as the bonds and merging that exist among Dhoanoids, Tagers, and Engels. This is for several reason.
1. The mentality of a Digimon is not that alien from the human mindset, they have desires and emotions similar if not the same to humans. So Mental connection isnÆt as damaging as it is with those types of merging
2. Unlike with the Tagers and Dhoanoids, where its human merged with ancient alien beings from beyond, in the Human/digimon relationship itÆs the Digimon that are the younger race. SO if there is any feedback it is on them as opposed to humans.
3. Since the various digivolutions are based upon emotional bonding moments, each stage up to biomerge is taken when both human and Digimon are ready for it mentally.
The flipside of this is that you canÆt produce powerful Tamers quickly, in large numbers, or with much predictability as to what the final level will be (some remain in Rookie form forever.. others only advance as far as Champion or Matrix *Ultimate*) or even predict what sort of partners and end result digimon youÆll get. Not that the NEG and other groups wonÆt tryà but cannon shows trying to force a Digivolution leads to BAD thingsà

NEG- doesnÆt quite know what to make of thisà but provisionally accepts them as allies while keeping a close eye on all Tamers that pop up and wild digimon. The fact that they defy attempts to classify and conform to training is confusing, and are regarding Tamers as dangerous as Sorcerers generally.

Digimon factions added to Cthulutech in this bunny
Four Sovereigns æfriendly DigimonÆ- Technically allied with NEG (Really Calumon likes humanity and they have interest aligned with Calumon being one of the few to realize exactly what Calumon IS.) Although itÆs a very fragile alliance. While Migou invasion into the Digital world do occur, itÆs really more of a annoyance than any threat. On the other hand if the Migou take over its pretty clear their access to the real world will be cut offà The nature of the Digital/real world connection limits how many digimon they can send to help, plus the Sovereigns rule is rather lax so some may not even obey. Still any wild digimon fighting alongside NEG forces against Migou or Cults belong to this faction.
Impmon/Beelzamon technically belongs to this factionà although his job is more bodyguard of Calumon when the marshmallow wanders around the real world.

Hypnos-Tamers - Reformed under Jeri is Hypnosà mainly because the old Hypnos mainframe is the only mainframe that seems to be able to affect the digital world (Newer computer systems just canÆt interact with the realm. Might have something to do with all the bureaucratic attempts to make a new and improved Hypnos with Arcaneotechà While Hypnos itself has been upgraded its core systems remain 20th century tech.) With most of YamanakiÆs work lost, Jeri is the sole human left that has any working knowledge of the codes necessary (Well Henry probably does to.. but he had Terriermon)to run the place and she is keeping that knowledge close to her chest.
A branch of the NEG government, its charged with helping train and teach newly emergent tamers as well as fight the Migou and Cults (Due to limited numbers its mostly cults and occasional Special ops against the Migou that they get assigned to. There just arenÆt enough Tamers to be frontline units, to say nothing of the lack of conformity!) They are also charged with eliminating/rehabilitating Dark Tamers, and have some jurisdiction over Wild Digimon (Depends on who spots them first)
The original tamers belong to this naturally
Dark tamers- We know canonically trying to force a Digivolution is a BAD thing from Tamers.. but since when does the government listen to a bunch of kids? Early tamers that Hypnos doesnÆt find first is likely to try to be forced/reeducated into digivolving their partners into more powerful and useful forms. This of course causes negative and destructive digimon to emerge. It also feedbacks onto the Tamers themselves unleashing their negative emotions. Those that werenÆt put down escaped to cause havoc and trouble for the NEG. It IS possible to rehabilitate them to normal tamers if found soon enoughà but if left to long you are left with a sociopathic team of Tamer and Digimon that has to be put down.
Dark Tamers tend to have Ultimate and Champion digimon partners, but are unable to Biomerge (their mental state is to unstable and violent to form the apparent bonds for such a close fusion). They make up for it with numbers tho, since creating one tends to be quicker than the normal Tamer/digimon partner process.
Although officially the NEG project is stopped, there is always some scientist/general who think they have æfigured out a better wayÆ to get digimon digivolved to more powerful forms which inevitably churns out more Dark Tamers if not found and shut down quick enough.
And of course Chrysalis Corp routinely tries to catch newly emerged Tamers to turn into Dark Tamers to unleash on the world, as do any Tamers that fall into the clutchs of the Migou.
Not really united per say the æDark TamersÆ range from single psychos, to small groups of mercenaries hiring on to help various cults or factions as it suits them, to some who even collect a small group of rogue digimon to follow them.
Wild Digimon- Digital portals to the real world abound across the Digital world and not all are under the control of the Soverigns. Other digimon can be swept up or intentionally invade the digital world for their own purposes.
This could range from seeking a Tamer for themselves (Relativily benignàbut not always See Ice Devimon from the show), or heroic good guys accidently swept into the real world and trying to do whatÆs right (Leomons intro for example.).
Some are neutral just exploring or finding themselves swept up in the real world unexpectedly.
And some are threatsà either evil/destructive ones who stumble across a temporary portal (The most commonà generally what the opponent digimon prior to the DevaÆs emergence were in the series.) Others may have more sinister long term schemes (Like the Parismon invasion)
Of course if they emerge in out of the way places the NEG may not care... for example Sea going Digimon that emerge in the oceans are more a problem for the Deep one cultists than the NEGà

Well thoughts?

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, just avoid hopefulness. This is not a 'verse for the optimists.

You do know 01 and 02 being a tv series was just a dub add on right? The Original Tamers made zero mention Adventureverse besides Ryo Akiyama.

and even then, That was a game and barely related to the adventure events. There are hardly any mentions of Milleniumon, Ken, or even how the hell Ryo got trapped for years in the Digital World.

Didn't Ryo after the supposed betrayal of the adventure cast choose to abandon adventureverse for Tamerverse and choose to go into the Digital World a year before the tamers cast after he beat Ruki in that tournament?

Wouldn't know, don't have the SWAN emulator to play the Ryo games. This is all infromation gathered from other sources, your best bet would be Daneel Rush.

I was under the impression that Ryo knew how to get back to the real world, but chose not to because he needed to keep Cyberdramon under control.

That's what I thought.

First off love the idea. And it even be said that Tamers has semi-canonical proof of existing within a Cthuluverse anyhow given how when digimon first showing up one of the people who showed up was a professor from Miskatonic University... :p
