Online campaign

I want to run an RPG.

The game will be online; I intend to run the sessions on free conference calling software (right now I'm leaning towards join.me). Documents and housekeeping paperwork will be hosted on an Obsidian Portal campaign page.

The system will be GURPS. My inclination is characters in the 250 point range. Within that limit, do whatever you want, with one exclusion: if you want it, build magic as a "power"; Basic Set Chapter 5 ("Magic") is forbidden to you. Even if you've never played even one paper-and-dice game, that's fine, I will guide you.

Setting and genre... I'm not certain. I'm leaning towards "you are a Slider. Your reasons for sliding and your method of sliding are own, but you have them." But if there's something else you'd like to do, no matter what it is, bring it up, because I'm not certain.

If you don't mind having me as your GM, who's interested?

What time and timezone?

I'll have to see if I can borrow the book from a friend. I played DnD the mist recent edition not too long ago, so I wouldn't be a complete newb.

I'd love to join if I knew where to get ANY of the materials and what the terms meant. Also I suggest Skype for the RP, it works wonders

If you're new to the system, then start with GURPS LITE (yes that's a link to the official publisher, but it's free, so there shouldn't be any complaints).

As for Skype... I was going to do that, but since the screencapture software I wanted to use can support conference calls ANYWAY, I figured, just simplify to the minimum amount of software, especially since it doesn't require any installation.

All right... it looks like this is going to stall, so Imma gonna push forward.

I want to set up a planning session.

My goals:

1) Determine genre and themes for the campaign.
The and the U on the beginning of GURPS stand for "Generic" and "Universal", so don't worry about rules or supplements or whatever; I just want everyone to be enthusiastic about the content. I will worry about which books we will need to adjudicate the content.

2) Character concepts.
Much like the campaign, I want everyone to come up with a character they are excited to play... and I want to make sure we've got party balance, too.
Whatever character you want to play, ignore the rules for now, just come up with ideas; I'll help you describe what you want to do inside GURPS.

Logistics:
I'd like to do this tonight, if possible.

When:
Uh... how does 8 PM for Eastern US time sound?
I think all the respondents are in North America, so....
That would be 1 AM Sunday GMT.

How:
We can prototype a join.me teleconference or we could do a throwaway tinychat room (or something).

Thanks folks.

Thanks for the quick reply ADD... if you don't mind, I'm gonna put the immediately group-relevant things here.
1) Determine genre and themes for the campaign.

As far as any genre and themes are concered, so long as it's akin to a setup Akin to Pathfinder's set up racially and technologically It'll be fine by me. I don't like campaigns if they're too allocated in the present or in the future though. Genre should always vary between stuff like pure adventure, survivalist horrors, medival fantasy and social exploration, never pure battle or GM griefing.
Pathfinder and D&D ad all that is called "Dungeon Fantasy" in GURPS parlance. I'm... I'm not really enthusiastic about running another dungeon fantasy, I got kinda burned out on AD&D.

Let's be a little more quantitative about the Technology Level we want to game at. I'm going to throw some GURPS rules at you now....

0 Stone Age Prehistory and later Counting; oral tradition.
1 Bronze Age 3500 B.C.+ Arithmetic; writing.
2 Iron Age 1200 B.C.+ Geometry; scrolls.
3 Medieval 600 A.D.+ Algebra; books.
4 Age of Sail 1450+ Calculus; movable type.
5 Industrial Revolution 1730+ Mechanical calculators; telegraph.
6 Mechanized Age 1880+ Electrical calculators; telephone and radio;
7 Nuclear Age 1940+ Mainframe computers; television.
8 Digital Age 1980+ Personal computers; global networks.
9 Microtech Age 2025+? Artificial intelligence; real-time virtuality.
10 Robotic Age 2075+ Nanotechnology or other advances start to blur distinctions between technologies...

Dungeon Fantasy is usually TL3 to TL3+2. The notation of 3+1 means that it's an equavalent to TL4, but diverged from "our" history with magitech or whatever.

If you'd like, give me a number for what kind of campaign you'd like to play.

Hmm, this seems pretty interesting.... But I have no experience & will have to start reading those books. Since you've probably already started, think I could just watch & learn?

Yeah, no clue what's going on anymore. daniel_gudman was busy the week I asked & things just kind of died off. Admittedly I missed a couple Saturdays & didn't make a character.... The lack of status updates confused me greatly though.

Yeah trust me it wasn't gonna happen ever, I tried to join, he suddenly dissapeared off radar on day one, left me with a completed sheet. I don't even remember what happened at this point but I know that I simply deleted the sheet at some point for some reason, something I usually don't do.
