Hey it's a rare status symbol!
I think it started to become popular because the girl with large chests were not the type to date the otaku's who so desired DFC.

It was less threatening to them or such.

Not that one can't be hot with smaller boobs, plenty of girls are. Usually due to some other factor of their body or personality made them attractive.

Our blunette heroine could trolls that girls by noting that her, with her decidedly unwomanly figure, has Keitaro wrapped around her finger. could force the girls to realize that sex appeal alone won't win him to their side.

Although, from Keitaro's own mental notes in the series he does appear to appreciate stuff like boobs and a fine figure. But the girls won't know that and could grow to question their own projected images as a result of what she says.

I could see such a thing easily backfiring into being seen as proof that he might like them young.

which still works to her advantage. The whole idea woudl be to get them to lose faith in their own sex appeal.

@Chrono:
Otome games are pretty much the same as your standard Ren-Ai, I haven't played any (the interest hasn't piqued, although I've read about a few with decent production value). Could be a workable idea if, tho I would lean more toward Konata teasing Kei that he IS living an a Ren-Ai game and why he hasnt picked a route yet.

@Antimatter:
Thanks for the reminder. Motoko will be less violence prone, but the miss-understandings and lulz will prevail getting her a bit shamefaced... once she notices she's doin' it rong!

Motoko's already insecure about her femininity as it is, I think she WANTS Keitaro being manly/alpha so she can be let herself be a little weak. Farther in the story she does dress up more, but I'd wager she still has more unisex/androgynous/male looking clothes than frilly/girly stuff.

Kitsune, now there's someone that would really be butt hurt about her looks being completely ignored. More often than not she's got her sweater puppets either on display or quite prominent, even with her lush party girl lifestyle (including hangovers), she still is quite the looker... if Akamatsu really wanted to, she could have NTR'd Kei away from Naru and seriously competed vs Mutsumi (and later on Motoko) for his affections.

Naru, sure she's cute and cleans up nicely... but I get the feeling she would rather be frumpy more often than not. It's the jockeying for alpha female at the Hinata Sou that has her consciously/unconsciously trying to always look good.

Mutsumi is hawt and beautiful in a more traditional sense. I don't remember seeing her being insecure about her looks, if anything she'd more concerned about her fainting spells. As previously commented on other threads, she took a dive for Naru not once, but twice. Too good for her own sake. I'd wager that her take on Konata might be "hey another new friend!... wonder if she wouldn't mind sharing?".

@Shioran
Hmm.. that is an interesting angle.

A long blue wig, some green contact lenses...

You could always troll the lot of them by making Shinobu a Konata twin and double-team Keitaro...

Having two of them working at the same time in different parts of the Sou could really fry some brains.

Damn it I hate when little scenes pop into my head...
-------------
"Okay, Shinobu, just memorize the script."

"All right," the Konata clone says as she starts reading the proffered pile of pages. After a few minutes she looks up innocently. "Um, Konata-san, what does 'jail-bait' mean?"

Konata palms her face. "Oh, girl, we have SO got to woman you up."

The little chef seems to almost glow. "Really?! Then would Sempai notice me mor-"

"I'm not sure I'm ready to share. More script, less dreaming."

Shinobu replicates Konata's mischievous kitty face perfectly for a few seconds. "So... maybe?"

Stunned by the fast learning and exact duplication, and rather frustrated being that it took hours in front of a mirror to do it right the first time herself, Konata sweat-drops. "Worthy partner in crime, you are. Scary opponent, you might be."

A copy of Konata's sultry grin spreads across the domestic's face. "Thank you!"

"I've created a monster..."

A seductive giggle escapes Shinobu as she reads more.

"Stop that!"

Kitsune actually seems to have a complex about being ignored despite her looks. In school, she'd try to be the rebound girl after Naru rejected a boy, only to get dismissed out of hand. Keitaro does this once to her as well, basically ignoring her advances.

Hell, after he gets back from America she comes onto him hot and heavy, and all it took for him to lose interest was Shinobu showing off her highschool uniform.

It's not so much a complex, but more along the lines of being tired of playing second fiddle to Naru. She was always volunteered to let down the boys that wanted to date Naru, and did hit on some of the ones she had her eyes on... but they didn't want anything to do with her (probably got the bad fame of being the rebound girl from there).

The Vixen is certifiably hotter, more fun, less violent, kinder (when she really doesnt have an ulterior motive)... heck if you read her right, she could be a BRO of the highest caliber to Keitaro (I stand by the belief that End Game!Naru owes Kitsune almost as much as she owes Mutsumi).

I remember reading somewhere that Akamatsu admits Kitsune became Ms. Exposition multiple times and that she was his favorite during that series... even though she didn't have as much blatant fanservice moments as Naru or Motoko, or a full-on story arc.

I remember her 1-2 chapter stint being the girl that consoled him after the "failed" Confession, and was quite nice to him before the advent of the burn up blades arc (she shoulda dragged him into her room and made a man out of him!)... that was a lost opportunity if there ever was one. Heck, post-america... she didn't even seem to want to wait for Naru to officially say yes to Kei and start the shenanigans during the "Toudai in Molmol" arc, yet she still took a dive like the rest of the girls. :( :unsure:

Kei... you are a dumbass!

May be so, but I do admire his loyalty. Hope I can find someone who sticks with me like that, even if I end hurting them.

Kei's loyalty is a charming feature of his character, it just feels misplaced at times.

I want you to reimagine Love Hina with Kitsune as the victor, the pretty girl whose a BRO to Keitaro and second fiddle to Naru. Naru sent her to break up with guys she didn't want to talk to or she ended up trying to woo them on the rearbound. It never worked until Keitaro. Oh sure at first two surprisingly lonely people were just hanging out together and having fun. Nothing really romantic about it....at first.

....ah a discussion for another thread. Anyways I do like the direction this is headed, and it also had the pleasant bonus of making me watch the 'Lucky Star' intro again so extra points for that.

Despite never watching the series I do like the Lucky Star intro as well and your comment and this story got me to give it a try. Watching it right now and the fact that they spent the first eight minutes talking about how and how not tot each food was amusing. ^_^

Edit: Oh wow, are all the episodes so...whats the word I'm looking for. Random? Yeah I guess that works.

Honestly, and I'll make this short (I know, shocking): She got what she deserved.

If she spent as much time trying to attract him as she did trying to use him for amusement and profit in the first year, she'd already have him. By the time he was back from America, he was probably so subconsciously gun-shy about simply being around her he would have used any excuse to stay away.

If you really want to start that fight, I'll just say that Kitsune had nothing on Motoko. Remember that before she had a use for Keitaro, she would attack him physically. And given the ability of most students of her style, it was likely with lethal force. There's someone he really should have been gunshy around.

Actually, althought I didn't like Mokoto at first she got better. I mean she starts off being mostly indifferent to Keitaro, then (slowly) begins to realize that he's not such a bad guy. Moves to respecting him in her own way and eventually realizes she loves him. However, by that time Naru has the boy wrapped around her fingers and it' far too late.

Kitsune's playful/manipulative nature eventually bit her in the ass. She' teased Kei so much that when she actually was serious he kind of figure she wa still playing.

At least that's my thought on the subject.

I agree actually. He should be more gunshy about Motoko.

However, the methodology that the two girls use is opposing. When Motoko shifts from hate to love, it's noticeable. She stopped abusing him and treated him better. It was enough of a pattern change to be easily apparent.

Kitsune has always tricked him using her feminine wiles. How's he supposed to know the difference between that and her using her feminine wile to try to honestly come on to him? For a guy that's as socially inept as him, he wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Not to mention she'd been doing the tricking so much longer than any of the other girls he probably thought she'd never change.

Probably one of the reasons I like her. Among the few in the cast who had some character development - late as it was.

I don't she she really exploited him like that in manga canon. Teasing mainly is what she did, but conning him for money I don't remember happening.
