New Challenge based on this anime addventure thread:

Basic Premise: Tarou was given guardianship over Ranma's two children in secret. Soon after Ranma and his/her spouse were killed. Tarou has been raising the children and training them using scrolls provided for that purpose by Ranma and/or spouse.
The aspects that are varied are:
Ranma's spouse
Ranma's killers
Who's investigating
Any pairing with Tarou
Also, a variation for other animes would be acceptable...but I'm not familiar with everything unfortunately.

Ranma/Kenshin
Ranma married Misao after Aoshima's death.
Both were killed by the former fiancees through trickery and plotting.
Saitoh is investigating the deaths. (Ranma and Misao were noted as agents of the Empire)
Kuno is also investigating due to feeling offended that his sister took part in it.
Shampoo is regretful and trying to make amends (while also hiding under American citizenship)
Nabiki ended up tracking down Tarou and developing a relationship with him

Both were kiilled by sabotage/trickery by the former fiancees
Nabiki becomes a cop to investigate the death
Kuno is also obsessing over the "pig-tailed girl"
Ukyou is suicidal with guilt
Tarou is married to Kiima.
