Pirvate Server

So, does anyone play on one or have one to recommend? I can't afford a subscription right now.

I knew that would bite me on the ass. Oddly enough, my auto-spellchecker only works on the post, not the title.

Don't know any WoW private servers but imagine they're going to be immensely boring because of the low population. One of the things that make WoW fun is playing and interacting with players whether it be running dungeons or pvp. Private servers sometimes don't have the population to make it worthwhile and since they're emulating the WoW world they're bound to be rather buggy.

I've played WoW on a private server before. It was free and I got triple the experience from every kill, but that was balanced with falling through the floor at times and lagging badly enough that I'm still trying to attack when I've been killed.

It's alright, but it would be better if one of the developers from Blizzard were to quit and work for them. Not that they would, because the pay would be horrible compared to Blizzard.

Or, you know, NDA's etc that could destroy a lot of credibility in the industry. Not to mention when you say 'developers' what od you mean, the huge teams of bug checker, content creators, etc etc etc. A single person who intimately knows the system might help a bit but don't bet on it suddenly making a private server superbly awesome.

Well, since bugs were primarily that which made me quit the private server, then a bug checker. A good one. Bugs were the main reason the private server didn't expand. I expect they'll be obtaining in one way or another the Cataclysm expansion once it comes out. Again, full of bugs.

One thing I remember was an invisible monster called "OLDWORLDFUNCTIONDONOTDELETE". I had to help my bro, whose character was of the alliance while mine was of the horde, to kill it. Eventually, it died.....then another one instantly attacked. I said "fuck it" and left him to die.

Do you know how many bug checkers there ARE? People going through the entire system, checking reported bugs that they have to try to reproduce. And yes that's not easy, for example the fairly common 'being feared into being stuck in the walls', as an example from a blue post recently, was such am assive pain because having to go through incredible amounts of code and different types of terrain etc. A single bug checker would probably kill themselves working on a private server. There are huge amounts of them working on wow, and wile fair enough some of that is system load and the huge number of realms, there is just such a huge world to moderate that to really get it stable your not going to be getting a single person doing all the work unless you chain them to a computer and whip them for motivation. And even then its not going to help their effectiveness.

It will probably make it more bearable but still ...
