As the two trainers finish healing up their teams from the battle, Deuce having managed to scrape a win at the end, winning 4-6, and thanking Arceus that Blue hadn't managed to down his 5th, since Magikarp still had neither a name nor a actually damaging move, though he was close to getting tackle down. Blue had decided that his pride would be hurt if he didn't follow the trainer tradition and had handed over a bit of prize money.

He thanked Latrio for volunteering to ref, having arrived just before they started the battle, and wished the Breeder luck in his training in Mt Moon.

Deciding to take a few days off from the mountains since he couldn't pass through yet, Deuce headed back to pewter city, wanting to stock up a bit on supplies and visit the museum he had heard one of the miners talking about.

*2 hours later*

As I enter the museum, I notice that my bag has slipped open and the Dome Fossil I found by sheer luck in Mt Moon is sticking halfway out, and as I reach to put it back in I'm stopped by one of the scientists working near the counter, who then slips around the counter to speak with me.

"Sir, where did you find that fossil?! We've been looking for one for the last 3 months."

"Found it in Mt Moon, figured I'd keep it as a nice momento, why?"

"Listen Mr..."

"Deuce"

"Deuce, thank you, anyway, we've been looking for them because we recently developed a method we believe could revive the fossils as living breathing Pokemon. We would like to request that you allow us to use your fossil as the first revival. We will of course return the revived mon after a two or three days of study, which we hope will help us to perfect and speed up the process. Will you allow us to do this?"

"Sure, I mean, not like I have anywhere to go till they clear that cave in, so what, just come back in three days?"

"Closer to five actually, the machines going to take about a day to finish setting up in the Cinnabar lab we keep it in, and then it'll take about a day to finish the programming."

"All right, guess I'll see you guys in five days then, probably just head back to Mt. Moon and train a bit more."

"Thank you sir, you won't regret this, and if you or anyone you know finds a fossil feel free to stop by either here or the cinnabar lab!"

I spend a hour or so afterwards in the museum, just looking around the exhibits, finding the first floor filled with recreated models of the ancient pokemon species, and the second floor with a history of humanities attempts at space travel.

I leave, noticing that it's gotten rather late, and decide to hit the Mart in the morning, heading to the center for some sleep.

The next morning, I spend a few hours training Magikarp, before heading to the mart a little after noon. As I head to the counter to purchase my selection of 4 pokeballs, 2 each potions, antidotes, and paralyze heals and 1 each of repel, awakening, burn heal, and escape rope, I notice Latrio showing the clerk a fossil, trying to find out how much it's worth.

Remembering that scientists request, I inform the breeder about the fossil reviving madmen, and watch as he bolts on his way to the museum, before paying for my purchases and heading back to Mt. Moon for some more training.

After all, I got 4 days left to kill, might as well put them to good use, no?

I enter the center outside of Mt Moon, reflecting on my day as I heal my team and head to sleep, having stumbled across another TM in route 3, this time one for teaching Bullet Seed, and having caught a spearow and a geodude, the geodude having been in possession of a Everstone.

While I was training I ended up in converstation with the hikers that frequented the area, and had heard that the blockade was almost cleared, though there were whispers about criminals having been responsible for the cave in. I put it in the back of my mind as I fell asleep.

DAY 2

The money came in just as he woke up, an entire 3000 poke for sending in the strangely colored Spearow. Zaffre grinned a bit, stretching a bit as he got out of bed. Since the mountain was still closed, it would probably be a better idea to try and see what he could find in the forest. Restocking on pokeballs and potions with some of his hard earned cash, the researcher quickly made his way to the path leading into Veridian's woods, prepared to spend the entire day seeking signs of anything of interest, before heading to Veridian's Pokemon center for a rest.

Of course, he wasn't expecting anything close to what he would manage to find later. The rather lost creature which had previously been spending its time rolling around in the dirt caught sight of his entering the forest, before deciding to stalk after him, with the rather slow boy being none the wiser.

Day 8

I leave the Pokemon center late the next morning, wanting to find out how the blockade clearing is coming. After I quick check of my team, and a discovery of Aera having evolved, I enter the mountain.

Along the way to the blockade location, I stumble across what my Dex terms a "Lagging Tail", and states that any Pokemon that holds it will find themselves moving after a opponents attack, regardless of speed.

Not seeing how this could be useful, and somewhat curious as to why it reminds me of a Onix tail, I stow it in my bag, figuring I could sell it at a mart for a bit of cash, and continue on to the blockade, though I notice faint voices echoing off the walls, and they sound...angry...

Day 2

The encounter with the Johto Pokemon was sudden and unexpected, but the moment he caught a look at the creature's adorable expression and seeming love of rolling around in the dirt, Zaffre knew he had to catch it. Not for Oak, and not even for money, this Mareep would be his.

Shroom, the Paras, came out first, having recently learned a technique he knew was very handy. A single use of stun spore was all it took to paralyze the sheep. However the tackle got in response was enough for him to bring the now exhausted creature back. Instead he sent out Pecker, his Spearow, to take on the now paralyzed sheep.

Unfortunately the paralysis wasn't as effective as it had been in the numerous confrontations he'd had with the insect pokemon he'd been finding all day, so immediately after his ordering Pecker to use his signature move, the Mareep retaliated with a fearsomely powerful Thundershock.

That was unnaturally strong, even given its high level. He glanced at the Mareep suspiciously as he called his Spearow back, before releasing his trump card.

Torch had been working hard lately, easily the boldest of his entire team, and even being fast on his feet to boot. Zaffre didn't even have to call his first order, the unusually colored Cyndaquil simply knew the moment he was released to unleash the massive amount of smoke upon the Mareep.

Confused, the poor creature tried to let out a growl, only to be paralyzed by Shrooms earlier efforts. Cyndaquil unleashed another black cloud with the first as it attempted to tackle him, but thanks to his quick movements and the lack of visibility, the attack missed. A quick order of tackle allowed Torch to use the flames on his back to push himself forwards, doing considerable damage to the disoriented creature.

It was then however that Zaffre suddenly learned just how bad a decision abusing smoke screen could be against the wrong opponent. The somehow supercharged Marreep attempted to unleash another thundershock, but in the now smoke filled area, this proved more devastating than normal. The entire cloud electrified, as Torch rushed forwards, only barely pushing Zaffre out of the way in time before the entire area lit up. The marreep, confused by the events but otherwise fine due to its natural resistance to electricity, turned to the now very injured Cyndaquil.

Zaffre took out Torch's Pokeball, ready to recall him, but something stopped him. Torch rose on his legs, a look of determination in his eyes he'd never seen before. As the Mareep charged he stood defiant, as if waiting. And Zaffre knew what he must do.

"Tackle!"

Mareeps charge, obscured by the smoke met with nothing but air as the Cyndaquil jumped back. At that same instant, the flames on his back ignited once more, propelling him even faster as he rushed forwards, swerving under sheep's head to land the tackle head on to it's chest, full force. Mareep went flying back through the air, before landing on the ground hard, unconscious.

The pokeball flew out of his hand unconsciously effortlessly catching the now fainted pokemon. Zaffre however watched his partner with a sudden sense of awe as Torch continued to remain standing, despite his wounds, waiting for his order.

"Return." Zaffree finally said, allowing his partner a well deserved rest. Mercifully he wasn't that far from Veridian, so a quick jaunt to the center was rather simple, and it was late anyway. However, even with the discover of the magnet being held by the little sheep, he couldn't help but let his thoughts drift back to his partner's defiant stand again.

That was, quite possibly, the most awesome thing he'd ever seen in his life. Which probably meant little of what had previously been a lab rat, but a sudden urge to see just how much stronger Torch could get began to fill him, almost making him wish he'd decided to be a trainer. But that was foolish, science was his calling, and even if that was possibly the most amazing thing he'd ever see, there was no reason to change that. Of course, he was only saying that because he had no idea what new incredible feats awaited him the very next day.

DAY 7

A quick rest to celebrate my first Gym Badge, a stop at the Pokemart to get some Supplies and I was off to Route 3, I didn't have any particular interest in any of the Pokemon there, so I just went on through, to Mt Moon.

I already had an Electric for the Cerulean Gym, and getting a Ground Type for the Vermilion Gym wouldn't be difficult with Mt Moon here and the rumor about the Diglett Cave on the way to Vermilion, so I decided to just get through as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, I'd have to wait, some douchebag's caused a cave in, so the route through the mountain is blocked, I'll have to hike over the entire damn mountain or something tomorrow, to tired after all that shit.

Damn Zubat's.

I found a Full Restore jammed in a Crevasse after beating a trainer with a Zubat and a Jigglypuff, which made a total of Two Trainer's I'd beaten in Mt Moon.

Also: Why the hell is there a Pokemon Center on the mountain? Not that I'm complaining but what?

Fuck it, Sleep now, hiking tomorrow.

Day 3

Zaffre peered into the water in route 22 carefully. Though as a researcher he had access to every HM and the permit for their use, one of them, Surf, he was expressly told by the professor to avoid for the time being. It was a lesson he knew well, Pokemon in a sea enviorment faced a lot harsher conditions than those on land, and tended to be far stronger than any novice trainer or researcher could possibly deal with from the getgo.

However, he'd been noticing suspicious signs of light in the large pond, and his natural instinct couldn't let it go. He'd heard that there tended to be a lot of underground water routes spread throughout Kanto. Normally they tended to be used by large migrations of Goldeen and Magikarp depending on the season, which were as plentiful in Johto as they were here. However, occasionally, there were reports of less common creatures that get lost within them and randomly wind up in Kanto. It wasn't particularly common, but there had been cases of this happening. And if his suspicions were correct, he may have just lucked out and found one such case.

Drawing it out was probably not a smart move on his part. but the urge to do so was tempting. It wouldn't be particularly hard either, whatever it was seemed to be following him, an occasional faint glow signaling its movement below the surface. He just needed a moment's opening to knock it out of the water...

Pecker was overhead, watching carefully, waiting for his order, flying high about the air and out of the creatures sight. He tossed another pokeball, calling Shroom to his side. This was probably a little unfair of him, but letting a chance encounter like this slip him by was madness. The creature backed off for a second, as if sensing something wrong, but Zaffre kept still, hoping it wouldn't flee deeper below the surface. The Paras walked as close to the surface of the water as it could, before remaining completely still on his command.

Mercifully the plan to draw the creature out seemed to be working, the glow started to come closer to the surface, before finally, as he'd expected, two glowing sphere's emerged from the surface of the water, as if tempting Shroom to come close enough for the built up charge to paralyze his Paras. It was of course at this moment that his Spearow struck, suddenly dive bombing down straight from the clouds, skimming the surface, and gripping the antenna like spheres of the creature before pulling it out from the safety of the water.

Unfortunately the sudden surprise of the pull set off the Chinchou's Thunderwave, instantly paralysing both Pecker and the too close Shroom. However despite the sudden spike in electricity, the Spearow kept up his momentum, and barely managed to pull the hidden pokemon all the way to the nearby surface.

Removed from its natural habitat, the now terribly confused and thoroughly adorable Chinchou turned it's attention on its attackers. Zaffre quickly called Shroom and Pecker back into their balls, paralysed as they were, it was wiser of him to just make sure to win as quickly as possible with one of his other team-mates. Thinking it over quickly, he brought out Cotton, his new Mareep, which could probably use the experience more. Unfortunately the Chinchou immediately started off with another thunder wave while the sheep decided to roll a bit in the mud by the waters edge, Paralysing him too. His first attempt to have Cotton tackle the lantern fish failed, as the sheep couldn't move, allowing the Chinchou to attack with bubble. His next order for thundershock also met with the creature's inability to move, as this time Chinchou used supersonic.

Worried, Zaffre called Cotton back to his pokeball, knowing that with both paralysis and confusion trying to attack again with Cotton would only be an exercise in frustration. Coming up with a quick plan since his experience from the last battle, he called out Torch. Immediately, he used smoke screen, with the intent of getting the Chinchou to zap itself. The subsequent onslaught of bubbles was effortlessly dodged, as the Cyndaquil unleashed another influx of smoke. It was at that moment that Zaffre heard the tell tale signs of Chinchou attempting to use thunderwave.

"Stay back a bit Torch!" As expected, the entire cloud electrified, perhaps not as potent as before, but it worked just as well, and since this pokemon in question was half water it wouldn't be tanking the damage as easily as Mareep had. "Now, tackle!"

Luck however was not on Zaffre's side. Though the Cyndaquil's fire boosted charge connect, knocking the Chinchou out of the core of the smoke, it quickly became apparent to the researcher that his clever tactic was a grave misstep.

Volt Absorb?! He thought, watching as the injury from spearow's earlier flight began to heal before his eyes, the electricity coursing through Chinchou's body. Suddenly, he noticed Chinchou's movements, realizing a moment too late as the water pokemon opened its mouth to deliver a point blank bubble. "Torch, look out-"

At that range there was no avoiding the onslaught of bubbles. As a matter of fact, Torch did the complete opposite, only intensifying the flames on his back to increase the damage from his charge as the water attack continued to batter him. Both slammed into the nearby rock wall hard, Chinchou taking the full brunt of the force, but with the amount of damage Torch had taken from that bubble attack, this was going to be close.

There was absolutely no reason to keep Torch fighting, though the others were paralysed, they weren't all that bad off, and it would really only take one good attack to finish this. However something stayed his hand again. They could win this, he knew it. They just had to be smart about it.

"Smokescreen." Zaffre ordered. Another onslaught of bubbles came, but with more room to dodge and the shroud, avoiding it was easy enough. He heard the tell tail sign of the sparks charging up, but didn't hesitate. "Tackle."

Before the Chinchou could fire off the thunderwave and heal itself in the cloud, the Cyndaquil's fire propelled charge connected hard, throwing it off balance and out of the shroud of smoke, making the attack miss and causing its attempt to heal fail. Despite the water type slamming into the wall again however, this did not manage to finish it. Surprised, he almost didn't see the Supersonic attack coming. Not that he needed to, Torch was still in the smoke cloud and managed to dodge rather easily.

More surprising however was the sudden beeping his Pokedex was giving off. This had happened a few times before, usually outside a battle, when his pokemon learned a new move. However, right now, he couldn't think of a more perfect way to finish this.

"Torch, rush him!" The Chinchou was trying to get off another bubble, but with both the smoke and the fire pokemon's speed, it was avoided entirely even with the damage it had already taken. The moment the attack stopped, just as Torch was at the perfect distance right in front of the fish pokemon, he gave his last command.

"Ember!"

Even the dumbest of trainers knows that if you use a fire attack on a water type it's not going to do all that much damage. However at this point any attack would have finished it, so if he was going to end it, he was going to end it with style. And if there was one thing his Cyndaquil specialized in more than speed, it was fire power, he just hadn't had a means to use it until now. Needless to say, the sudden rush of flames consuming the Chinchou and practically setting the wall behind it ablaze was the perfect end to such a rough fight.

He threw a Pokeball to capture his hard earned combatant, now more glad than ever for his luck. If this creature had been much stronger he probably would have had a lot more issues. Turning now to the wounded, but exceedingly pleased Torch, Zaffre gave him a good rub to the back of it's head. The flames behind him flared up a bit, signalling his pleasure, so even if the heat was a little uncomfortable the researcher kept it up for a bit. "Now take a good rest, you earned it.'

After returning the Cyndaquil to its ball, he turned to his newest acquisition. He'd considered turning it into Oak, certainly such an intriguing specimen might be worth something to their research, but thinking on it he decided to keep it. A water type was always handy after all, especially one who also could absorb electricity, and who knew what else he would face ahead.

Turning to head to Veridian's pokemon center again, Zaffre felt quite pleased with himself at the battle. He'd acted a little irrationally sure, but he was sure those were the sort of conditions that could define a trainer in the heat of the moment. Of course, it was small scale compared to a lot of the stories he'd heard, but considering his relatively humble life, he had to start somewhere.

The now familiar desire to take up training he squashed again, aided by his noticing an oddity with the trees along the path back to Veridian. It looked like some pokemon, probably a Mankey given the way they loved to leap through trees, had decided to head nearer to the city than usual. He made a mental not to look for any signs of why it would decide to move past the usually territories they'd made for themselves.

Though that would half to wait until he healed everyone up. He'd use the few hours of light remaining to look around after that, before he'd have to head in for the night. He'd have to head back to pewter in the morning, maybe look through the forest a bit more for the day. Hopefully Mt. Moon would be cleared by the time he got back.

Day 4
Zaffre learned the Chichou, now named Lanturn, had been carrying a Metal Coat, probably something it had picked up in an underground passage. Not terribly useful or worth much, but a few pokemon could use it to evolve, so if he found one such species it might come in handy later.

He searched the forest for most of the day, not finding anything of great interest, save some soft sand. Not having any ground types at the moment, this was not terribly useful.

Day 5
Searching pewter, route 3, and the general area around Mt. Moon also turned up nothing much of interest, save a TM for bide. He decided to hold onto it, waiting to see if he could find a trainer to sell it to for later.

Finding nothing else of interest, and learning the cave was still blocked, he headed back to Pewter to turn in for the day.

Day 6

Feeling curious, Zaffre decided to check the museum for a bit. The fossil types on display were interesting, but ultimately he found nothing else of interest. He had a bit better luck when he went out to check on route 3 again, finding a Jigglypuff, which he decided to catch, in order to send to Oak later. Upon discovering the cave was still blocked, he headed back to the Pokemon center.

In the center he turned in his Jigglypuff to the Professor, hoping for another increase in funds. In addition, a sudden thought striking him, he made a request for the HM for Rock Smash.

Day7

Both the money for his Jigglypuff turn in and the HM came in the morning. He quickly taught his Paras the technique, before heading off to the Entrance to Mt. Moon.

Unfortunately his clever plans to clear the rocks didn't work, when the rocks he smashed only let more rocks drop down. He ran through the place again, but found nothing of interest once more, save an Ultra Ball. Accomplishing nothing but fighting a lot of pokemon again, he decided to turn in for the night. He'd probably have to risk using fly if he the path didn't open up the next day.

As I make my way towards the voices, I make sure to keep quiet. I reach the former location of the blockade, and pass through in search of the source. Noticing that the tunnel is starting to curve a bit, and seeing light sources playing on the wall of a sharp turn, I stop, and slowly sneak a look past the corner.

Once my eyes adjust to the sudden light, I see what appears to be a large group of people being ordered around and disciplined by two superiors. I notice that they all have black clothing and a red R somewhere on them, realizing after a moment that this must be the infamous Team Rocket, I decide to listen in and find out what's going on.

"You worthless grunts, what the hell do you mean you just can't find anything?! Those fossils from earlier this week can't be the only ones in this mountain, and your all going to be pulling double shifts till we find at least ten times as many!"

"But sir, we can't search any faster then we have been, we tried to speed up and while that did find us some fossils, it also nearly brought the mountain down on top of us!"

"I don't care about anything but results, and right now, all of your results are leaning towards...re educational training."

As the conversation continues, I hear a noise behind me, and looking, I see the researcher about to greet me. Reacting quickly, I cover his mouth with my hand, and gesture for him to be silent. After a nod, I remove my hand and return to listening in.

"Sir."

"WHAT? Can't you see I'm busy?"

"Call from HQ sir, straight from the top."

"Fine. Come along Cairn, we need to report these idiots progress, or lack there of, to the boss"

"What are we waiting for then?"

I watch as the supervisors leave the area, after ordering the grunts to return to work.

I turn around, noticing with surprise that we've been joined by Blue, Latrio, and Aarik, all of whom are looking at me expectantly. After a quick explanation of what I overheard and saw, we come up with a quick plan to ambush the grunts. We sneak into the main cavern, and begin sneaking into position for a pincer attack. Aarik is paired up with Zaffre and Latrio on the right, while Blue and I head to the left.

Unfortunately, it seems today my usual steady feet have abandoned me, for just as we are about to get in position, I lose my footing and with a painful tumble and crashing sound, make my way down into the pit.

The grunts whirl as one almost, and we spend a precious minute staring at each other. The calm is shattered as one grunt sics his pokemon on me, prompting the rest of them to do the same. My allies quickly release their teams and charge down to help me, but we're still outnumbered five to one. I release my team and join in the battle.

Let's hope we can take these guys down quick...

He really didn't know how he got roped into this. All Zaffre had wanted was to finally cross the mountain, but now he appeared to be involved in some altercation with a criminal organization. He really wasn't cut out for this.

Since the entire group had decided to split into two and try and flank the underlings from the side passage, the two who had gone with him, the trainer Aarik and the breeder Latrio began their battle with multiple members in the opening to the main cave, leaving Zaffre to hold up the back. Unfortunately, this Team rocket had caught onto their clever plan and stolen it, as five more of the team came to try and attack them from behind, leaving them in a bad position and essentially surrounded, and thus leaving Zaffre no choice but to fight.

Of course, whatever code trainers normally adhered to seemed of no concern to the two who had tried to flank them, as Zaffre suddenly found himself accosted by six of the pair's team at once.

Frowning slightly, he glanced over the team he found himself against. Two Koffing and Rattata, an Ekans and a Machop. Both of them still have more to pull out too, and the room to maneuver here isn't the best... This could be rough. Gotta see if I can nullify the poison users first though.

"Shroom, Stun Spore, Lanturn, Thunderwave." He started, calling out the attacks just as the pokemon were released from their balls, before the Rocket members had time to react. The Thunderwave hit, causing the Koffing it had been aimed at to suddenly plummet to the ground, but the other managed to drift away from the sudden release of pollen. However one of the Rattata was not so lucky, making Zaffre painfully aware of how incredibly easy it would be to accidentally hit one of his other partners with the moves if he wasn't careful. As one of the rocket members ordered the Machop to start focusing energy while the other called for the remaining Koffing to unleash a Smog on the boy's entire party.

Zaffre suddenly wished he had a pokemon with gust, because he was decidedly going to avoid using such attacks purely because of how easy it was to turn such an attack on them. Still he had more important things to worry about, as he released the rest of his team. "Pecker, Fly, Cotton, Thundershock, Torch, Tackle!" He ordered, making sure to direct each attack to the appropriate target. The unimpaired Ratatta met the Cyndaquil's tackle head on, but ultimately the additional boost provided by his flames prevailed, sending the rat flying, straight into the now electrified Koffing. Both fell, heavily injured in no small part due to the increased electric power the magnet provided, but neither was quite done yet.

A fact soon rectified with a quick order to Chinchou to direct its bubble on the both of them. Unfortunately at that moment the Ekans caught Torch with a wrap attack, as both Machop and the impaired Rattata were ordered to take him down with a Low Kick and a Tackle. The rat pushed through paralysis and charged, as Zaffre gave his commands. "Shroom, Rock Smash. Torch, Tackle!"

The Ekans still holding the Cyndaquil in its coils quickly learned why doing so was a foolish tactic, as the flames on its back flared up again, seemingly more intense than before. Torch charged at the Machop, just as Paras effortlessly knocked the impaired Rattata flying with the exceedingly effective fighting move. Worried, both rockets tried to pull out their remaining partners as one of them called for the impaired Koffing to let out a smog, but thanks to the Thunderwave it still couldn't rise.

Before Machop and Torch could clash, Pecker descended, ramming into the Machop hard with a devastating flying attack. While not enough to do it in, the resulting impact from the fire pokemon's flame boosted charge was, as the heat finally proved enough to force the Ekans to release its grip. At the same time, the sudden flash of red light signified that the rocket members finally managed to get their partners out, but already Zaffre was ready for it.

"Pecker, Fury attack, Shroom, Scratch! Lanturn, bubble! Cotton, Thundershock!"

The bubbles washed over the released pokemon an instant before the electricity, magnifying the already devastating power of the attack, leaving a very fried ekans in blissful Unconsciousness. The Paras rushed to Torch's side, it's claws running through the very burnt snake the moment it was close enough, as the Spearow's Fury Attack devastated the disoriented Machop who had just been set loose. Realizing the Machop wasn't quite done yet, despite the incredible flurry of attacks from Pecker, Zaffre readied himself to end it.

"Torch, Ember!" The wave of flames that issued forth near engulfed the Machop, leaving it unconscious before the attack could even finish. Zaffre sighed in relief, pleased that the battle had gone far more easily than he'd thought. All they have left is a paralyzed Koffing, one or two attacks should take care of that real-

When he turned his gaze to where the Koffing had been to only be met with the malicious gaze of a different rocket and a Machop who had clearly just used a low kick, a horrible feeling of fear settled in his chest. A random bit of trivia he'd learned over his weeks of study suddenly came to mind. "Because Koffing stores several kinds of toxic gases in its body, it is prone to exploding without warning." It was the Chemical reactions he'd said, causing just enough heat to allow the entire creature to suddenly burst out with explosive force. "TOR-"

The paralysed Koffing the new Rocket's Machop had kicked into the path of the ember attack had only an instant to register the fear as the one errant speck of flame ignited the smog that naturally released from his body. Torch didn't hesitate for a moment, his back suddenly flaring as he turned, but as opposed to getting out of the path as quickly as he could he used the force to slam into the nearby Shroom hard enough to send it flying, away from the resulting explosion.

Zaffre himself felt the force of the blast, only able to watch in fear as his Cyndaquil was caught up in it. Mercifully, he still had enough momentum to get out of the worst of it and his fire resistance stemmed some of the damage, but clearly he was in bad shape. Before he could even think to return Torch to the safety of his ball, another two Ekans slipped out from under the ground, intent on finishing the fire type off. Paras however leapt to his defence, taking one of the attacks head on as Pecker blocked the other.

Regaining his composure, Zaffre ordered for Chinchou to use Thunderwave on the two ekans, hoping his position would allow his Paras and Spearow room to dodge, but this only made him miss the sneak attack by the two Rattata to land directly into Cotton's side, slamming it into the wall, right into the awaiting grasp of a third ekans. Before the researcher could grasp just what was going on, he caught sight of the Koffing above them, steadily and slowly releasing it's flammable poison into the area.

Three new rockets, apparently having pushed aside some stone to make another passage into the area, stood before him, each with a nasty expression on their face. The one with the Machop who'd sacrificed his colleague's partner spoke now, his tone mocking. "Honestly, you two couldn't even handle this kid? He's not even a trainer, look at him. We just devastated his entire team in one go. The boss is not going to be happy when he hears this let me tell you."

He'd seen this man's type before, a lot came to Oak also seeking to get ahead purely for the glory. However, whatever he thought of him, now wasn't the time. Torch was barely hanging on, and Mareep wasn't in good shape either. He glanced at the ekans, quickly realizing he'd only managed to nail one of them with the thunderwave. Considering this new load out wasn't all the three had, he was in a really bad mess now. Subtly, he set his pokeballs settings to autoreturn. He wasn't risking his partner's lives if this went bad, and given how carelessly they sacrificed that Koffing, he really wouldn't put it past them.

"Come on now, this shouldn't take too long. Look, that little fire rat is pretty much finished. Koffing, end it with a smog."

"DODGE!" Zaffre yelled, backing up slightly, amost wracked with indecision as he tried to figure out which orders to give firstas combat raged around him. Defiant to the last, the little Cyndaquil rose as the wave of poison was ushered forth, setting his back ablaze to push him forward, as at the same time it ignited the gas behind him. The flame spread quickly, and before he was going to let opportunity pass him by, the researcher gave out his next orders. "Cotton, Tackle! Lanturn, Flail!"

As his remaining partners grappled with the Machop and remaining Rattata, Koffing exploded, faster than his orders could be followed. But that didn't mean the flames remaining wouldn't hurt them. Even wounded and under the constriction of the Ekans, Mareep managed to charge, slamming hard into the paralysed Ekans enough to send it flying towards the inferno of smoke. The Chichou spun, its antennae slamming hard against the body of the Rattata, straight into the blaze. However at the same moment the other Rattata managed to slip by Pecker and slammed into Mareep again hard, causing it's legs to begin to buckle under its own weight.

The Rocket Grunt's expression soured as the three were taken out at once. "Come on now, you're just delaying the inevitable." He paused a moment, glancing at Torch, before another smirk came to his face. "Though I suppose you weren't quick enough."

Casting his gaze on his Cyndaquil, he noticed the tell tale rise of the purple mist. He'd been poisoned. Turning to his other partners, he quickly noticed Cotton buckling on its feet, as the Ekan's wrap attack continued. Things weren't looking good, he needed to get that snake off fast. "Thunder-"

"Tackle, Ratty!"

"Wrap, Snakey!"

He hesitated a moment too long as the singed and paralyzed ekans rushed for Torch despite its afflictions. At the same time the other two rockets had already started calling out more attacks. Cotton was still restricted, and though his Paras moved to try and stop the snake, it was stopped by a sudden kick from the Machop, as the singed Rattata tacked his Spearow in mid-air. Chinchou meanwhile got caught in a wrap from the other Ekans still on the field. Torch however didn't even turn, his back suddenly lighting up as he was engulfed by a sudden glow.

The Ekans didn't stand a chance as the flames engulfed it, practically blasting it away with sheer force. A sudden cry called Zaffre's attention to his Marreep followed his interrupted command and let the electricity build up around it, as a similar glow engulfed it as well. Evolution?

For an instant hope filled him as a Quilava and Flaffy stood where his Cyndaquil and Mareep had just been, with a now unconscious Ekans next to the pair. But then he noticed that though they looked in better condition, they were still in bad shape. And worse still, it seemed the poison was starting to take its toll. Still the cocky rocket member looked a little taken aback.

"Well isn't that lucky for you. Of course..." Two more Koffing were released onto the field, by the other two Rocket members, as he released his Rattata. Worse still, the other two ordered the poison balls to stay low to the ground, near enough to his party to make him nervous. Fire would be out of the question it seemed. "You still aren't winning this."

If Zaffre could get a potion to either of them he might have a chance, but as things stood there were too many to deal with at the moment and he'd likely get caught up in the middle of it. The enemy still had at least two more Pokemon left, and with two more Rattata, Koffing, and a Machop and Ekans to deal with, things weren't looking good. One shot then. He thought, glancing at the convenient smoke cloud left by the explosion of the two Koffing That's at least half of what I need right? So 7 more and I can devastate the lot of them.

Stealing his resolve, Zaffre gave out his first order. "Protect Torch, everyone." He said, calmly. "Until there's enough, make sure nothing gets through."

The rocket laughed. "He may have evolved, but he's still only running on fumes. Honestly, you scientists really do have no idea how battle works at all do you?"

Zaffre ignored him, meeting his gaze with his Quilava's determined eyes. "Torch, Smokescreen."

Smoke engulfed the fire type, condensing with the already large smoke cloud filling the area, shrouding the entire field of battle. He heard more than saw his party break off and surround Torch, intent on letting nothing get through until the preparations were done. Even with the smoke dispersing the Koffing's smog, fire's still out of the question, and I can't use lightning either till I'm done. I'll have to play defensively, if they separate the team and break them off I'm done for.

The rocket started to laugh harder. "That's your trump card? I guess that's why you lab types are never good in combat. Let me teach you something good."

The grunt's Machop started to build up energy as his Rattata charged straight into the smoke mass, straight for Torch. "Shroom!" Zaffre ordered quickly, "Rock smash!"

Shroom responded quickly, moving directly in front of the Rattata's tackle, claws ready to strike, but within the smoke shroud the rat pokemon dodged it, instead ramming into the insect hard, before darting moving back as the rest of the team moved to respond.

"Weak moves like that to reduce visability aren't reliable in combat, all they end up doing is wasting time. And in this small cave, moves like smoke screen are just going to affect your accuracy as well. Machop, Low Kick!"

The now charged Machop rushed in too, ready to deliver a devastating attack, as the two Koffing were ordered in to tackle Torch directly. Zaffre responded quickly. "Lanturn, Bubble, Cotton, Tackle, Pecker, peck!"

Though still being constricted by the Ekans, the Chinchou obeyed the order, a wave of bubbles washed over the three, but due to the poor visibility, both Koffing managed to avoid most of the onslaught, as the Machop too the brunt of it and kept going undaunted. Pecker however completely avoided the onslaught, as he swooped in and rammed into the Machop hard with its beak, sending it flying right back out of the smoke cloud, just as Flaffy rammed into one of the Koffing, the other moving on to only to miss entirely. The ekans however finally released Chichou only to aim at Flaffy this time with a bite attack.

The Rocket watched the proceedings in shock. "Now let me teach you something." Zaffre said, "A Spearow's natural ability is Keen eye, which no matter what keeps any loss of visibility from affecting it's accuracy. So even in that cloud, avoiding your attacks while making sure to hit you is simple. Also..."

The Rocket suddenly noticed his Rattata was giving off the same purple mist as the Quilava. "Poisoned?!"

"The natural ability of a Paras is effect spore, so if you attack directly there's a chance some of its spores will get on you."The Ekans gave off a sudden cry as paralysis suddenly took hold of it, forcing it to release the Flaffy before serious damage could be done. "Flaffy similarly has an ability called static, which paralyses your pokemon with direct contact. If you don't take this kind of information into consideration, your likely to find yourself overwhelmed at the wrong moment."

Torch's first release of smoke finished, painting the area around them with black. He couldn't even see the other two rockets on the other side, much less the pokemon still in the mass. However in terms of visability he still had the advantage, he just need to keep it for long enough. "Torch, again!"

Positively livid now, the Rocket yelled to his companions. "Attack all at once!"

Another rise of fear filled Zaffre, as he turned his gaze to the mass of smoke again realizing every one of the rocket's pokemon would be charging in before he had a chance to fully form it or more importantly pull the rest out. Even though that last wave had gone relatively well, if they started to coordinate now he didn't stand a chance. "Lanturn, Flail! Pecker, Fury attack! Shroom, Rock-"

Taking his gaze off the rocket had been his mistake. He'd been a little too caught up in how normal trainer battles worked and though these guys seemed to break the rules a bit, he didn't quite consider that the rocket would try attacking him at any point. The sudden fist knocked him to the ground, he felt the foot press hard against his head as the sounds of the entire team of the rocket's pokemon started to move.

"Don't you get it yet, you labrat? You aren't cut out for battle. Give up."

If he'd been able to see it, he would have known how well his team fought despite the sudden charge of the six enemies at once. The fury attack managed to hold off both the Koffing while Lanturn's flail met Machop's low kick, holding it back just enough for Cotton to ram into him with a tackle. Paras's Rock smash managed to knock one of the rat's aside, but it recovered quickly, and being much faster managed to twist around Shroom to break though. The other rat slipped by, now leaving both aiming for the Quilava still releasing the onslaught of smoke.

Torch lept back, right out of the smoke and into Zaffre's sight, despite one of his eyes being smashed against the rocks below. It's sudden worried glance at him however made the flame pokemon hesitate, just long enough for the Rattata's Hyper Fang to hit dead on.

Torch's eyes nearly went white for an instant as Zaffre's blood ran cold, the beeping of his pokeball signifying that his partner was in critical condition. In the smoke cloud things got worse, as the Ekans dig attack hit Lanturn head on, allowing the Machop just enough leeway to knock Flaffy aside and rush out of the smoke towards Torch, just as the second Rattata Paras had knocked away closed in for the kill as the poison started to take effect.

A miracle happened at that moment, a blast of electricity and water from the trainers still fighting behind him, likely sent purely to aid him between their own hard fights. The attacks knocked both the Machop and the Rattata away, back into the cloud. The sudden aid gave Quilava just enough time to focus everything into finishing the massive exhalation of smoke before the poison spreading through his body finally lost consciousness. His body faded into red as his critical condition activated the autorecall system.

"See," The rocket said, as the red light engulfed Torch, sending his unconscious body back into the ball on Zaffre's belt. "If you hadn't had a team of worthless pokemon, you might have actually been able to do something here. Well, maybe not entirely worthless." He said, suddenly reaching for the Quilava's ball as he pulled it from Zaffre's belt.

"This little guy is certainly worth stealing." He said with a smirk, pressing his foot down on Zaffre's head even harder as he casually tossed Torch's pokeball in the air to catch and grip it even more tightly in his vile grasp. "The rest of your little pals however not so much. Tell you what, if you tell them to retreat, we'll let them go, no need to send such a pathetic team down to the labs after all. Our science boys tend to be a lot more brutal than you lot. Just tell them to high tail it and we can get on our way to finishing off your little buddies."

He wasn't even paying attention to the mans words anymore, such a vile unnatural feeling was filling him. He hadn't quite realized it was possible to feel this angry. Certainly it was not at his partners, and not even at this rocket, but himself for letting Torch lose to such low level trash.

Of course, at that moment, he realized the sudden change in the battle field. The smoke cloud swelled unnaturally, the exact reaction he'd been studying with Torch on the field. Already? Zaffre felt another surge of pride at his original partner, it seemed even to the last, the fire pokemon would do everything in its power to drive the researcher to victory.

All he needed to do was to buy enough time to get everyone into position. "Shroom, Pecker, above, go."

The rocket crushed his head harder against the ground, but at this point he didn't even feel it, so focused he was on his plan. "Good thought, let them get out from here from the damage in the ceiling, but you might want to say it a bit louder." The rocket said, maliciously, as he pressed his foot down again. "I don't think they can hear you."

"Cotton..." Zaffre started, seeing his Spearow rise above the smoke cloud as his Paras scuttled up the rock wall. Lanturn would be fine, in fact after that dig he took, the following combo would be essential for victory. "Fall back."

As expected, the rocket wasn't the smartest, so it took him a moment to realize what the order entailed, so long in fact that he didn't manage to order his Rattata to try and stop him until the Flaffy was almost already out of the smoke.

"Hyper fang, Rattata!" He yelled, lifting his foot to stomp hard on Zaffre's head this time. Zaffre ignored it entirely, as the rocket's last pokemon charged towards the smoke cloud to stop Flaffy's advance.

"Jump, Cotton." He said, while motioning to Shroom with his fingers. Though this rocket was nearly tapped out, the other two clearly had at least one more pokemon left, and they probably wouldn't summon them until after this first gambit. A second plan was necessary, and mercifully one had already formed in his mind.

The Flaffy's evasion of the rat's hasty attack, couldn't have gone more perfectly, as it lept up, over the creatures head just as it rushed past, leaving it in the core of the smoke cloud, trying to turn around quickly. Unfortunately the two Koffing, apparently ordered by their masters on the other side to follow, were on their way out. Not fast enough though.

"Cotton, Thundershock."

The very instant the electricity met the massive cloud of smoke, the entire cavern they were in went up in a flash, devastating all the pokemon within in one fell swoop. As the rocket was knocked off his back with the sheer force, of the resulting concussive blast, Zaffre couldn't help but let out a wicked grin as the tactic finally worked for him for the first time.

Steadily he rose to his feat as he glanced around the area. The Two Koffing it seemed had managed to survive, but ultimately any one attack would end either of them at this point. The rocket who'd tried to take command of the situation tried to get to his feat quickly, but both the sight of the now electrified cloud, the unconscious bodies of the entirety of his partners, and the nearness of Cotton gave him pause.

The two Koffing rose steadily, wisely away from the now crackling smoke shroud as it gave of constant pulses of electricity. Zaffre'd been experimenting with the interaction between the attacks for quite a few days now between his searches, but even he couldn't help but feel impressed with the results. However the tell tale sounds of the release of two more pokemon brought him back to the situation.

There was no easy way through the effective thunder cloud now separating him from the two rockets on the other side, not without taking the lightning damage in the process, but he really didn't need to get through. Not yet anyway. He moved as close to the wall opposite the now terrified rocket as he could, he'd need quite a bit of space for this.

"Everyone, get ready, we're ending this now. Pecker, Lanturn, Fly."

Even under the realization that he was effectively tapped out, the Rocket couldn't resist mocking his order. "You think that stupid fish of yours can actually-"

"Stun spore, Shroom." The sudden wave of pollen coming from above cut the rocket's quip off early, as it instantly caught the two wounded Koffing and, from the sounds, the two fresh pokemon on the other side of the cloud. The rocket glanced at the top of the cave, realizing the researcher's paras had crawled up the ceiling above them.

"Stun spore activates in a wave of pollen, so by attacking from above and directing it downward, anything directly below or significantly above past a certain point will be completely safe." Zaffre said, as the rocket stared in stunned silence. He didn't savor the moment however, even if his suspicions were correct and all 5 rockets had the same five pokemon, there was still the chance that the paralysis wouldn't stop any of the four remaining from attacking.

"Lanturn, Flail." Zaffre ordered after waiting just long enough for the last of the pollen to disperse, playing his final gambit. "Pecker, Peck this way. Wipe out every single one of them."

"You intend for that spearow to get through that? A flying type would take the most damage from that electricity." The rocket said. He opened his mouth again bit the sudden change in the thundercloud cut him off before he could even start, as it started to seemingly swell and rotate, as the lightning started to draw to the center.

The spearow burst through the cloud, seemingly entirely unharmed, rotating rapidly as it charged forwards. Drill peck?! How?

As the Spearow rocketed straight out of the electric cloud, the rocket caught a glimpse of the two now thoroughly devastated Machop being fling with it, as what looked like a storm of electricity followed in the flying type's wake. An electric Drill Peck?!

The now paralyzed Koffing tried to move out of the way, but too late, as the rapidly spinning and now electrified Spearow's overwhelming attack engulfed them, destroying the last of the opposition. The rocket could only stare in fear, now realizing that all of them had lost. As he moved however, he suddenly recalled the pokeball he now gripped in his hand. If I bring this to the boss, I can still salvage this entire mess.

The Rocket bolted as the now mercifully de-electrified cloud of smoke covered his attempted escape. Leaping over the unconscious bodies of his entire team as well as his now knocked out teammates, he tried to flee down the passage they'd come through.

Unfortunately all he met was a dead end, a large pile of rocks now blocking both entrances to the passage, meaning his only method of escape was through the researcher and the trainers behind him.

"Did you really think after all those explosions and that last attack that the area would still be stable enough to secure an exit?" Came the Researchers voice. Zaffre walked slowly, assured that the situation had been thoroughly turned around. Though weakened, his entire team was still strong enough to keep going. The Flaffy followed behind him, electricity sparkling off it's body as the Spearow flew close enough to the ground to drop the now significantly healed Chinchou.

"Volt Absorb. Didn't you think it odd, the only one I hadn't told to retreat from the smoke was Lanturn? You were absolutely right, had Pecker flown into that electric mass unprotected he'd probably not have made it to the other side. Fortunately I'd told him to carry Lanturn with him earlier. That's the entire purpose to fly after all. And since he uses flail by rotating the antennae around as best he can, if he was being carried and flown through the mass, he'd take the brunt of the electricity while making reverse engineering a Drill Peck a simple enough task with the right commands."

As he spoke, the entire team started to swarm around the lone rocket, Paras from above as the mushrooms on its back started to thrum menacingly, as the Flaffy stopped directly in front of its trainer. "I have to thank you for not playing by the normal rules. You were absolutely right earlier, I'd make a terrible trainer. One on one, sending only one Pokemon out at a time, I'd probably have been utterly slaughtered. However, with how things turned out..." Zaffre continued, his spearow deciding to rest directly on his shoulder as his Chinchou took position next to the sheep. "You have to admit, I make for an excellent scientist."

It was strange how, to the defenseless rocket, someone who normally looked so dopey and innocent could under the poor lighting and smoke become so demonic. Even the normally dopey looking creatures by the researchers side became incredibly menacing at that very moment.

"Torch definitely deserves to be with someone much stronger than me. He's strong, and in the right hands he'd probably make it to the top. However if someone like you can lose so easily to me and these 'worthless pokemon' as you put it, you're clearly not the kind of trainer he needs." Their eyes seemed to glow red as Zaffre's voice became very quiet, but in the silence the Rocket could still hear the words very clearly. "Drop him, or we'll find out exactly how much punishment a human body can take."

Whether it was fear or the rocket's pathetic sense of pride, he did not obey the command, desperately twisting around and attempting to climb up the rock blockade, desperate to escape. Unfortunately his wild flailings only succeeded in loosening the unstable pile, bringing a number of very heavy rocks directly onto his head before any of Zaffre's team could make a move. He hid the ground hard, knocked out cold.

The menacing aura didn't fade until Zaffre managed to secure the unconscious Torch's Pokeball and place it back on his belt. "Sorry, partner."

Glancing to his now exhausted team, he couldn't help but feel proud. Despite everything, they'd managed to pull through. He patted each of them in turn, before turning to the now unconscious rockets. He'd heard trainers usually took prize money for their victories, and after a rough battle like that, he wasn't about to miss out. Mercifully it seemed he wouldn't have to do much looking, it seemed a lot of items they'd had on themselves had been knocked out from their final attack.

Nabbing a nice sum of cash as well as an interesting pair of glasses as well as a net ball and Dawn stone, as well as a few other more mundane items, Zaffre made his way out of the smoke cloud, exhausted but victorious. Hopefully he wouldn't have to continue much on from here, as right now his entire time was desperately in need of a healing.

After nearly 20 minutes of all out war, the five of us finally stand victors, each of us having managed to down 5 of the grunts, with our allies covering us when one of our Pokemon fell, allowing it to recover and rejoin the fight. Blue and myself had the easiest time, having been able to clear out the Grunts with little difficultly, thanks to type advantages and good training. They had however put up enough of a fight that my Magikarp finally evolved into a Gyarados, and glancing over, I see Blue looking at his new Pidgeotto with a hint of pride.

Latrio had some trouble at first, but thanks to a timely learning of Bite on his Wartortles part, he too came through fine.

Aarik, surprisingly enough, had utterly crushed his opponents with the help of his Charmeleon, Pikachu, and Butterfree. Zaffre had the hardest time of the five of them, being the only one with less practice in training his companions, but had still come out on top, thanks to both his Cyndaquil and Mareep evolving early into the fight, allowing him to demolish the rest of the grunts he had been facing with ease.

As we rest up and recover from the free for all, we each begin looting the now insensate criminals of their money, along with any empty poke balls we happen to find on them. Latrio also takes their hats, though I'm not entirely sure why. I do notice Blue storing away a rare Dusk Ball and a large chunk of cash out of the corner of my eye.

As I store away my prize of a net and a friend ball, along with fifteen hundred pokedollars, I hear voices again, this time from the tunnel the three Rockets had disappeared down earlier.

"Gah, this really pisses me off Cairn, how the hell is it my fault these idiots couldn't find a fossil if they were as common as Zubat!?"

"We are the supervisors of the operation. As such, we are responsible for our subordinates failures AND successes. If you have such a issue with it, why don't you take up with the boss himself?"

"Yeah, you'd like to see me do that, so you can take my place when I get taken off for remedial behavior courses, wouldn't you!"

"If that's what you want to think, then feel free to think so."

"I don't think I like the sound of your voice Cairn. Maybe I should recommend you for some...What the hell is it Lt.?! Can't you see I'm in a discussion with my second in command?"

"Pardon the interruption Commander Zuriel, but didn't you order all the Grunts to get back to digging?"

"Yeah, what's your point?"

"Shouldn't we be hearing noise by now then?"

"Oh those damn slackers, this is the last time."

The voices cut off as the sound of running starts up, and less then a minute later, the three Rockets in charge enter the cavern chamber to the sight of 25 unconscious Grunts and 5 seriously annoyed teens staring them down with their pokemon beside them.

The two groups continue their stare down, quickly trying to decide on a plan of action without verbal communication.

After several minutes of a stare down, it's suddenly broken as Aarik charges the Lieutenant, prompting me and Blue to each take on one of the supervisors, while Zaffre tends to his exhausted Quilava and Flaffy, and Latrio and his team recover from the stress of fighting psychics en masse.

As I stare down the overall commander, he decides to speak to me before the battle begins.

"So. These idiots couldn't even handle less then half a dozen kids? Pathetic. Oh well, means I get to crush someone I don't have to fill paperwork out for, makes me almost...happy."

"I suppose I should give you the name of the one who will be the end of your journey. My name is Zuriel, a Commander of Team Rocket. And this is the last page of your story."

Not bothering to respond, I send out Aera to combat his first pokemon, which turns out to be a fairly large Arbok. The man proves to be a bit of a idiot though, when after being hit with a strong Gust attack, he orders his Arbok to dig, only for it to receive a powerful quick attack to the back of its head after it surfaces, knocking it out.

He recalls the Arbok with a look of annoyance on his face, before sending out a Wheezing, who promptly poisons Aera before following up with a powerful tackle. Not wanting to let the poison ravage my companion, I quickly recall Aera, substituting Klaus.

I watch with a small amount of cruel satisfaction as Klaus crushes the Wheezing with a single confusion attack before it can get so much as a puff of smog out.

Zuriel recalls the Wheezing, his look of annoyance having progressed to anger, before sending out a Raticate, which immediately captures Klaus in his jaws, putting him out of the fight with a critical Hyper Fang.

I recall Klaus as quickly as I can, deciding to send out speed to combat speed, I release Raiden into the fight. The pair spends a minute or two trading quick attacks, with Raiden slamming a occasional thundershock home, though Raiden is the first to tire, and ends up coming to a stop to rest.

As the Raticate begins charging Raiden, intending to finish him off with a tackle, I make a signal to the little Pikachu, who nods in acknowledgement. Seconds later, as the Raticate is about to make contact, Raiden suddenly lashes out, and with a reversal of his opponents momentum and power, uses them against it to knock it out.

The commanders anger has at this point expanded into full blown, barely controlled rage, as he recalls Raticate, he decides he has to make a quick comment before releasing what appears to be his final pokemon.

"Hmph, so you took out those weaklings with little trouble I see."

"Well, let's see any of those little things you call Pokemon, take down this one!"

With that said, he releases his final soldier, revealing a large, angry Nidoking.

The Nidoking immediately charges Raiden, taking down the exhausted pokemon with a simple tackle, followed by taking down Ghirahim shortly after as well, taking almost no damage in the process.

Zuriels expression has changed to one of cruel glee by now, as he watches the Nidoking take out my team one by one.

"So, what can you do against this powerhouse boy, hmm?"

I decide to shut him up, and release my newly evolved Gyarados to take on the enemy Nidoking.

"Well, well. A Gyarados. I'll be sure to take that one for myself after I crush you."

I watch as Gyarados and Nidoking battle, trading bites for kicks, and watching as Nidoking dug his way underground to avoid a tackle, popping back up behind Gyarados, he charged in trying to slam his opponent into the wall.

Unfortunately for him, Gyarados had chosen that moment to thrash around in anger, and had ended up smashing half his body into nidoking, sending him smashing into the roof of the cavern, before crashing down to the floor, where a second thrashing movement knocked him out cold.

Zuriel's face, at witnessing this had turned blank, before uttering two words.

"Well. Fuck."

He turned to run, only to meet my fist with his face, the physically weak Rocket quickly joining the Grunts in dreamland.

I recall Gyarados, followed by Nidoking, and loot Zuriel of his cash and spare items much like I had the grunts, coming out of the battle stronger, nearly 2000 pokecash richer, and with a single ball each of the Luxury, Quick, and Level lines.

I decide to check on how Aarik and Blue are doing with their own fights.

Blue snorts derisively at the beaten Cairn. After his battle against the Grunts, who Beedrill had mostly crushed, Pidgey had evolved. The battle against their Lieutenant had ended much the same way, with Beedrill crushing her first three Pokemon before going down, while Eevee and Pidgeotto took the last one.

Well, this jackass was better then the grunt's at least.

Shame he was so fucking stupid.

Two Heavy Ball's, useless, a pokeball, good, 1700 Poke, better, what else am I forgetting...

Oh wait yeah.

A quick kick to this guy's ball's later and I am feeling much better.

I can't believe I was outclassed enough that I almost lost to this idiot.

Thank you common sense, for bestowing upon me the wonder's of strategy, it wouldn't have worked if this douche wasn't so stupid, but I take what I can get.

I need a fighting type-

Is that a Moon Stone?

Yes-

Is that Charcoal?

Yes, yes it is.

Fuck.

Yes.

Latrio looks around the dig site for anything shiny. He finds a random shiny rock. He keeps it for now. May be worth something ya know?

After a quick check to make sure all the Rockets are out, we start looking around our surroundings, each of us finding one or two things of value, a rare Dawn and Moon stone being my prize, I notice the female of the supervisor pair glaring at me.

"You know, you guys would probably have been better off looking for evolution stones then fossils, idiots."

At this point, the grunts and other two superiors have reawakened, but before they can make any threats or bribes, a roar is heard, and as one, we all spin and stare at a very pissed looking, very big Onix, that just entered the room.

Needless to say, every last one of us proceeds to run for the exit, with the Onix chasing us the entire way there.

As we burst out into daylight, the Onix releases one last roar before turning around, allowing me to catch a glimpse of what seems to be a strangely short tail. I hear the sound of multiple clicks as I turn around, to see the rockets being arrested by a good 2 dozen Officers, two of which request the five of us to come back to pewter so they can sort this out, and let us be on our way.

I quickly agree, and follow the officer back to her station.

I got the guy's Geodude.

I am stunned they let me have it.

Officer Jenny said it was something like me being it's therapist.

What I do know is that I am going to do much better with it then that idiot.

Whoever this belongs to is getting a treat if they ever come for it.

I am going to SMASH the Vermilion City Gym with this thing.

So, Pikachu for Cerulean, Geodude for Vermilion, Charmeleon for Celadon, Geodude for Fuchsia... But I shouldn't plant to far ahead with something I have on a limited basis, should probably grab another Ground Type as quickly as possible for Vermilion and grab a Magnemite for Fuchsia, just in case.
