Well to be fair, it takes less time to write political stuff in contrast to writing fics, from what I'm usually used to. Writing politics is based almost entirely on whatever interal rants you have that you'd like to explain.
Fancy dialogue, descriptions, etc...not needed in politics! For me, at least...

I myself do not care that it takes less time, so much as it takes any time.
I use reading fanfiction to stop thinking on real life, not to bring it to fanfiction forums.

all that any topic about politics in any form does here is make people mad at each other. That is why it is for the best to leave political talk to other forums out there that are designed for it. Here, we simply discuss anime, games and fanfics, because most times that we stray from that, it usually turns unpleasant.
I agree with the no-go. I am still okay with the occasional thread popping up now and them poking fun at some politician who makes the news for all the wrong reasons, but encouraging it on a regular basis is a surefire recipe for disaster, IMO.
Mainly because I feel that it is very hard to maintain objectivity in this sort of discussions, and it would likely degenerate rapidly into petty name-calling, then flames, and then... :no:

Political threads will ALWAYS degrade into flame wars (from experience).
I have big disagreements with a number of posters here who, for the most part, are best buds when it comes to fanfiction. If we had a political forum here that encourages said talk, best buds we might as well no longer be.
And to be honest, when someone goes off into a rant in the general forum, things could get nasty even there. Which is why I try to avoid obviously political threads there.

any fourm willing to have this sort of dicussion MUST not maybe have a mod team in place to stop any such stupidity from occuring. with how things are currently I would have to say nah this isn't a good idea due to lack of moderation in place and the fact that this forum is based on anime and fanficiton for the most part but having different sections isn't such a bad thing just this sort of section.
Now I like to think that the vast majortiy of TFF's members aren't going to do it but it only takes one idiot to start a flame war.
though I seen anime threads regarding a particular anime turn into a flame war because that person didn't like the anime and wanted to see said topic get trashed just because of his opinion.
but he didn't get his wish and just got punished instead.

Yeah, I don't think a political forum would be appropriate either.
We already have a hard enough time convincing all the unbelievers that the shorttempered and violent girls are made of win and the non-violent and reasonable girls are made of fail.
Talking about politics would only result in more broken ideals.
