Please click here to vote.

Thanks to ninsaneja for helping get everything organized. My apologies for trying to get that vote running without sleep, it was bad of me.

Please keep in mind when you vote- these rules will determine if nTFF lives... or if everyone just buggers off and leaves. Vote carefully.

NOTE: Some people, particularly those using firefox, have found they have to doubleclick on the poll. I'm not sure why, and it's nothing I can fix.

Others have noted that for adblock or various other blockers, they need to allow "Polljunkie.com".

This poll is open until Easter.

Something is not right, at least under IE 10... all I have for the first question is :

Category One: Undesirable Posts

Alternative 1
Alternative 2
Alternative 3
Alternative 4

So what are the alternatives?

Let me try that using Opera.

Nope... exact same thing.

There should be a sidebar with explanations.

You should be getting something like this:

Except you haven't already taken the poll.

Ahhh... found the problem... In both Opera and IE, I have by default favorites/bookmarks on a sidebar... that feature is built into the browser, though many do not bother with it. FireFox I know used to have an add in to do the same, though it may be built in these days.

In any case, because of the sidebar... all that was off the screen...

Considering I have a wide screen, that is pretty far to the right.

Note to anyone with gadgets/sidebars or whatnot to the left of screen, or those not running full screen, or those without wide screens, they likely will have the same issue.

Merely a question... the Category 11 Thread Moving entry raised a concern... does moving a thread in the forum change its outside link?

Say for example if a author had a crossover story, Ranma and Evangelion for example... if it starts in say Evangelion, and say I like it and create a direct link to that thread. But lets say for whatever reason it is moved to Ranma section (maybe it is Shinji in Ranma land, not Ranma in Shinji land), will that direct link still work?

I hate the idea of breaking links like that, though I can certainly see the need for moving threads to valid locations.

I merely am curious as to whether it would in fact break the direct link?

No. Threads are kept by a unique identification number, their pid. This never changes.

Then I'm fine with it. I asked as I have seen that some forum software actually uses two ids for the link, or uses both the thread and the section to create the id. Were you to move it to a different section, the link would change.

Accidentally made a comment. I look foolish now. :p

This was a very well thought out poll, I have to admit.

Somewhat needlessly complicated, but well done nonetheless.

Voted... but frankly given some of the options in there I'm starting to get a little worried that nTFF is just going to turn into yet another overly-moderated forum. No profanity in fanfics outside the lemon section? Who the hell came up with that horrible idea?

Gafgar: If you look at the results, most people agree with you.
EDIT: And I came up with that, based on things actual people had said they wanted.

I can't actually look at any but the first result. This annoys me.

These rules :/

Some of them are so bizarre.

I especially like the Tagging one, where the most anti-tagging option is 'Its not required, but strongly encouraged.'

No. I despise story tagging, and it wasn't present on TFF at all, why is it even a rule option?

Shirotsume

Why is it an option? Because people asked for it.

Why is the lowest option "Not required, but encouraged"? Because it's a fuckfest trying to find things at the moment, and even a simple [Complete] tag would make the search about 7x faster, and because we have 1.2million posts, the search engine chugs like a mofo.

Tagging isn't something that's there to warn you about icky things (though it could, I suppose), it's there to give you information, it's for things like [Complete] or [Hiatus] or even [Snippet]/[Chapter]

Information should always be encouraged. Though that rule option does not enforce anything, it is worded that way because we do want people to present more information about a story than they currently do.

And we got a lot of people loudly asking for sexuality tags, so that's one of the options.

Fair enough.

As to it being a fuckfest trying to find things at the moment however, thats at least partially because Hawk was the wost forum designer ever. 118 Subforums. Yay.

I'll agree to that. Had to fix them all by hand, fuck my fingers.

Hmmm...

Quick question, if sockpuppet are banned, would that also make creating accounts for specific purposes during RP's in the rp section against the rules?

A few games I've played in had the GM make another account for different things like making general story posts.

It hasn't happened in awhile after Hawk banned new accounts but that's a gaming option available now.

Ehhh... layout wise, when taking into account the popular series in 2005/2006 and the needs of several specific writer subforums, I thought it pretty good.

However, I would have had him keep Previews, but for each series combine Ideas and Talk and make a number of standard generic threads in each of them and sticky them to always be at the top:

Series Ideas/Talk Subsection
- Miscellaneous Ideas
- Miscellaneous Images
- Miscellaneous Search
- Recommended Stories
- Series News Updates (if the series was active)
- Series Research Questions

I would have Combined Anime/Manga and General Fan Fiction sub forums into a General Anime/Manga/Doujinshi sub forum and had sub sections for General Series Idea/Talk, General Previews, General Resources. Like above for the series specific one, the General would have had similar stickied threads.

General Ideas/Talk Subsection
- Anime Currently Watching
- Manga Currently Reading
- Miscellaneous Ideas
- Miscellaneous Images
- Miscellaneous Search
- Recommended Stories
- [Series Name] News Updates (if the series was active)
- [Series Name] Research Questions

The lemon section would have had similar stickied threads per series subforum as the non-lemon variants. and in all cases, a series in the non-lemon would have one in the lemon...

Just some random ramblings, as I as a programmer gave it some thought once.

Which reminds me, when we get this settled some of the tiniest sub forums need to rolled into anime manga.

Some new ones probably need to be made as well.

I vaguely recall an attempt to ask Hawk to make a Digimon section with the revival brought on by Savers, but Hawk stated he personally disliked Digimon and would not make a section for it.

The Fate section also need to be renamed and turned into the type/moon section.

Among other things.

That would probably be a decent use of a declared account. Perhaps your member title could be like "Alt: Aarik". Small enough to be discrete, but noticeable?

Maybe we should indeed make only anonymous or undeclared sockpuppets illegal.

No using sockpuppets to get multiple voices in a discussion, for example.
