Pop-Ups

Uh, hi...I wasn't sure where else to post this, but for the last week or so whenever I clicked on a link on this site it's opened up different pop-up tabs that keep trying to force my computer to download something. I've ran a virus and malware scanner, but nothing comes up on my computer, so its exclusive to this site.

No. It seems to be once in a while, like after I get onto the website. Like when I logged on an hour ago and went to the Type-Moon forum to enter a thread, the additional pop-up pushed me to that tab while opening the original thread in the previous tab. It happened three times when I clicked on a link on thread and then stopped, leading me to one tab that said my flash player was out of date, Windows 7 Cleaner, and a Video Downloader. They're still in my browser's history.

Just to be sure, do you use browser extensions/add-ons? In either case, could you check and see if there are any installed that shouldn't be?

Also, could you point out these links that redirect you/cause pop-ups?

In addition to the above, can you try viewing the forum from chrome's (or firefox's) incognito mode? I'm curious to know if the pop-ups are still present then.

I don't have any browser add-ons or extensions that shouldn't have been installed, but I'll test the waters today and tomorrow and record everything on when they pop up on the normal and private mode. I'll post the results here.

If this is recent, and you are on Windows, check your installed programs list for anything suspicious looking, even if you did not install it, it is still possible something did.

If you are using IE, go to tools and manage add-ons and see if there are any enabled that do not look right... Generally speaking anything from the OS (Microsoft), your hardware (like Hewlet Packard), Adobe (like flash/shockwave), Oracle (Java), and your antivirus (like Avast) are mostly ok...

Just to make clear, this is an issue with your computer, not the website, as it always is in cases where you suddenly start getting popups and ads where you didn't before.

More than likely, there's one of three things going on- you have a chrome extenstion that was bought out and now has adware in it. Get rid of it. That, or you have adware on your computer itself.

The third case is that the website itself has changed to have ads.

I didn't elucidate because it's clearly not an issue at hand here since several people have independently confirmed their own lack of popups, though I counted three because I was speaking in the general case for whenever you suddenly see popups start appearing on a website.

Sorry for not being clear, I suppose.

Well, the problem seems to be settled now since it hasn't popped up since I last posted. I'll have to assume it was something with my Firefox browser since once I reset my Avast extension they stopped appearing and two deep scans pulled up nothing, but it was still weird that it only happened when I was on this site. Although that can probably be explained away due to the fact that I frequent it the most so it had the highest chance or something.

Thanks for the help.

Probably a different issue but similar. When I'm browsing on my phone under the mobile version I will get an add pop up for how my phone has a virus and needs to be scanned.

Don't forget that some assholes will buy space on advertisement groups and post a malware-infested ad. It isn't as common these days, but I doubt it's gone away entirely.
