Ours is better. It's amazing.

I stumbled across this on Youtube while watching the original cartoon and the anime version...isn't better.

They completely fucked up Mojo Jojo, Him is...less demonic. It's unbelievable. It's nowhere near as funny.

Completely lost in translation. They even have...transformation sequences, and weapons, and seem to have actually lost the bulk of their super powers. Also, Chemical X has been replaced with Z energy or some such crap.

The Japanese version...is worse than the American version.

It is...better looking. Still, it's almost like watching a magical girl version of a Megaman Anime.

For once, the US version of something is actually better than what we got. Amazing.

The pacing and style of humor is completely thrown off. It's actually kind of strange and horrifying to watch.

Don't get me wrong, it's not by any means -horrible-. It's a decent 'magical girl' style anime and it's amusing...but...the original is much, much better.

In some ways I'm deriving a sick sort of pleasure from the fact that ours is so much better. Still, it's a little jarring. Wow. Even the Mayor is less...stupid.

It's like everyone grew a few extra brain cells along with much cleaner and polished animation, and it sort of suffers because of it.

It's worth checking out, but I'll stick with the US version sans Z thanks. Though, adding 'Z' to their version is kind of an amusing poke at Dragonball. I found it lacking.

Meh. :huh.:

In another ironic twist of fate, I recommend the dubbed version. Maybe because I'm used to it in English to begin with, but Japanese Power Puff Girls sound a little off.

Link to episode one [dubbed]: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...esnum=0&spell=1

It's available subtitled if you really want too. This one works better as a dub though.

Uh... Well it seems to be really aimed ath teh younger genration. Like younger than the original. Cause watching it makes me cringe and laugh.

Though I do like Buttercup's design better than the original. Like you said, I'd prefer the original.

Only Powerpuff Girls I ever thought worthwhile myself was 'PowerPuff Girls Doujinshi' by snafu-comics and it's sequel. They even made a flash intro.

Oddly, years ago I worked with a lady who was a huge powerpuff girls fan (at time, she was in late 30's, and several years older than me).

She told me she was not a anime fan and could not stand it... I blinked, and asked... you *are* a powerpuff girls fan. She smiled, and stated yep, because they were so cute. I pointed out they looked exactly the same as each other, and she noted that they were different colors. I then took out my animerica monthly, and pointed at random to a bunch of characters, and she said they all looked the same to here. At that point... I nodded, and did not bother her any more.

PowerPuff Girls isn't anime though. It's an American produced anime parody that has now been turned into an anime with a Z put on the end of it. It's a huge dose of intentional irony. It was produced for Cartoon Network originally and it pokes fun at all sorts of superhero and anime shows.

The original PPG is sort of like an Anime Animaniacs really. A lot of the humor is 'hidden' from a younger audience, and is aimed at adults. [As in, you won't get it if you're not a grown up, not so much sexual or mature content.]

The Anime version isn't bad per say. It's just, different.

I'm also pretty sure some of the original cast has returned for the dub. Mojo is sounding better a few episodes in, sans his speech pattern of repeating himself and posing too much. The girls sound like they might be the same actors but with better sound equipment and lower pitch. I think Bubbles is a different person, but I'm pretty sure Buttercup and Blossom are the same people.

Everyone seems to be less stupid as well. Which isn't really a good thing for this sort of show, but as I said. It's kind of it's own thing in the anime. I get the feeling, that much like Sailor Moon did in the US, it ended up targeted at a slightly younger audience than originally intended when it was exported. I'm to understand it did very well in Japan, but with a younger set than over here.

I've not gotten too far, and it's amusing, but it's still nowhere near as good as the original. The Mayor and Mojo Jojo in particular strike me as considerably smarter than their US counterparts. Mojo also isn't as 'nasty and purely evil'' for lack of a better way to put it. He's also more bumbling thus far. He was setting off huge explosions in the original and robbing banks, and thus far has been downgraded to stealing candy from children. I've not seen some of the other villains yet, so I couldn't say for a lot of the other villains.

'Him' is the only other villain I've seen yet, and he just tricked the girls into making him an evening snack by making them think he'd kidnapped their friends, when he hadn't actually done anything at all. He also looks a bit less demonic, and a little more clown like.

PPG wasn't really 'aimed' at girls in as direct a way as say, something like Sailor Moon. Though it does seem that way if taken in small doses. It's a joke poking at action type anime and superhero cartoons with a little of other types here and there. It doesn't always target 'Magical Girl' stuff. They get a bit of everything.

The anime version is amusing, but loses a bit of the pure comedy aspect the US release had. It also seems more directly targeted at young girls, with a few little things for people who watched the original sprinkled in here and there.

It really is almost like watching a Megaman cartoon though in an odd way. Even some of the music sounds that way.

...Japanese Spider-Man.

Adaptations usually don't fare well.

Dragonball Evolution.

EDIT

Ok, screw it. I can't watch it anymore.

None of the original voice actors are in Z. Him was voiced by Tom Strong in the original who also voiced Proffessor Utonium. In Z, Him is voiced by Tim Curry, that guy from comedy movies like scary movie 2.

They did a better job with some of the voices than others. I ran out of dubs and am continuing on with subs at this point anyway. The Dubs on youtube stop at around episode five or so. It's not so bad.

Tim Curry? Awesome. :D That's actually more awesome than the original voice actor. Can't think of a better guy for Him. The Demon from Legend and Frank 'n Furter as Him? Very fitting.

I do miss the old Mojo Jojo. The anime version isn't as mean, and doesn't take himself as seriously. I also take back what I said earlier, Mojo has gotten dumber and more child like. He seems to be the only character that has lost intelligence, and a bit of his...well, I wouldn't call it menace.

I'm gonna get through it though, it's not terrible, and I've seen all the original epsiodes more than once. The show was funny as hell at times. 'Z' is entertaining at least, despite bearing only marginal resemblance to the original. I'm pretty sure I'll never watch it again, aside from going back to watch some of the dubs just to check out Tim Curry as Him. That, I've got to see.

I've gotten to episode eight so far, Fuzzy, Princess, and Mojo Jojo have shown up. No Him yet. I watched a later episode that featured Him though. I'm gonna have to go back and watch the Dubs of a few episodes of that with Him in them just to hear that. :snigger: I think the Amoeba boys and Sedusa show up in the next episode.

That leaves The Gangreen Gang, The Rowdyruff Boys, and then Him according to Wiki. Plus a bunch of originals for the show that I'm too lazy to list, and don't care that much about.

I rather enjoyed the anime, but maybe that's because I tried my best not to compare the characters to their original incarnations, instead appreciating the new ones as separate characters. I particularly liked the Rowdyruff Boys, it was an interesting take.

My favorite song from the soundtrack was definitely Rise of Him, it's got organs and everything~

Tim Curry as Him? This I gotta see... I only watched the subs.
