Random Questions and Suggestions Thread

#1
Yeah, instead of just making a new thread for all the little things, just post'em here.

Right now I have a question; How do I increase the post count per page on the threads?

Go into your user CP, click settings, change your post count per page.

For the little things? Okay then, why is it everytime I try to regain my missing Random Avatar, I'm told the link (even the one I had when the forum moved, that worked fine) is invalid?

I imagine your avatar has to have a certain header (e.g. a certain file type) to be accepted by the forum. A php script isn't going to have the correct file type.

Looks like a URL to me...

That's because it's not doing what you think it's doing. When you load that page, it redirects to an imgur picture.

A redirect isn't a picture, it's a redirect.

So I need to find a randomizer that hosts the images as well?

I think so. I'm just guessing here.

I'm sure it's been asked but what's with the missing posts? A number of posts don't appear to have any content unless you look at them with the quote function. I thought it was limited to oTTF posts but it seems it's happening to recent ones too.

Were you using Search? For some reason, searching can cause post to display improperly.

For example,
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=15921&highlight=Fish

I found the above thread, by searching for 'Fish' using the search. Notice the missing first post.

http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=15921

This is the same thread found by conventional means. Notice the first post is back.

To fix a thread found by search, you just have to remove the '&highlight=XXXXX' part from the url. Do that and it goes back to normal.

I see, that explains it. Does "View Today's Posts" count as Search as well? Since I probably saw the recent one after opening the thread from there.

No it does not. It only happens when '&highlight' gets appended to the url, and that only happens when there is something to highlight. E.g. you use put something in the Search's 'Search by Keyword' field. View New Posts, View Today's Posts, Find All Threads (User) and Find All Posts (User) do not have this problem.

That's strange then. I know I didn't use Search since it was in the Nanoha and don't have any reason to look for something specific. But, looking through the most likely threads, I can't see that missing post now so I'll assume it's a mistake on my part.

Here's a suggestion: An option automatically subscribe to a thread when you post.

That's just being shamefully lazy.

Not when you're using quick posts like me. If I quick post, I still need to click on the subscribe button, then email notification and okay. Might not seem like much, but it negates quick posting entirely.

Didn't notice that, until you mentioned it. I usually preview my posts so, haven't encountered the problem. But I'll second your request. Its really annoying to have to click so many times to subscribe to a thread.

Can we have a thread path at the bottom of the page too? I hate clicking on return to top just to get back to the parent forum of some thread.
